Put general comments here. No spoilers, please.

Samantha A My copy arrives Monday! Excited isn't even the appropriate word!!

Duane (duanemincel) | 78 comments I'm ready for the discussion to begin.

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments I started listening to it this afternoon. Captain Janeway... I mean Kate Mulgrew is doing a great job so far.

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments I thoroughly enjoyed NOS4A2 on audio, Janice! You are in for a treat. When I was near the end I picked up my Kindle to speed to the end, but then having liked the audio so much, I had to go back and listen to that part all over again. Looking forward to the discussions.

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
I reed it last week nearly non-stop and it's a huge book. I loved it. My sister and co-moderator, Almeta, hasn't read it yet, so she will be moderating the discussion threads. I will be setting them up today.

Ann, you have made me want to listen to the audio!

Got all the discussion threads set up. Whew!

I just ordered a signed first edition/first printing from an Amazon seller. My "ordinary" copy isn't a first printing. It must be selling like hot cakes!

Looks as though we are going to have a healthy discussion group.

Don't have "my" copy just yet, but will be along shortly!

Duane (duanemincel) | 78 comments I realize now that because I read NOS4A2 when it was first released, my memory of the details have started to elude me. I'm hoping that the discussion threads will give my brain the spark that it requires and I can get back up to speed.

message 10: by Tara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tara Riley (terrorrose) I listened to it last month and I already want to read it again! So good!

I just read it and now have the audiobook coming in the mail. I'm going to enjoy the 2nd ride of this great story.

I don't know why I said I have the audiobook coming, because it's not out on CD, yet; only Audible. Since Audible is no longer supporting Blackberry (my phone to which all my Audible files were once downloaded), I have been pretty much forced to buy an MP3 player that Audible supports. THEN, I will see how it works and THEN order NOS4A2 on Audible... sigh... I'm piping mad right now because I've spend hundreds of dollars on Audible books and now I can't read them on my Blackberry!

I wonder what happened. There must be some issue between BB and Amazon. Grrrr! These propriety issues can be so frustrating!

message 16: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments Debra: eek. That is not good for you to lose access to your audible books! I love audible audio books on my iPhone because of the Bluetooth in my car and because I have my current book with me wherever I am, but my Sansa Clip+ MP3 player is great too. This issue with BB and audible is one more good reason I let my love affair with Blackberry go a couple of years ago (and never looked back)

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments Debra, could you number each discussion section? eg. 1 - Prologue, 2 - Shorter Way, etc? I'm getting confused. I wrote them down in the order that they appeared in the folder, but I'm not sure they are in the order that they appear in the book. (Gotta love Goodread's sort... not!) I just started the section Bad Mother. But when I look at my list, I've read Search Engine and it shows after Bad Mother, not before. Since I'm listening to the audiobook, I don't have a listing of the correct order.

Also, I'm feeling a bit lonely. It's a bit hard to have a conversation with myself. Where are all the people who've already read the book? How can you tell I'm excited to discuss the book? Hehehe!

Sansa Clip+ MP3 player is exactly what I ordered. And I'll probably get rid of my Blackberry sometime in the near future, too. I'm eligible for a decent upgrade with Sprint.

I was hoping to upgrade my Nook, but Audible and Nook don't talk, either. Soooooo... wondering if I should get a Kindle and figure out how to get my Nook books downloaded to it.

Technology is baffling at times...

Janice,I'll number the sections as you suggested. I can see how it can get confusing with so many to choose from.

I read the book, but can't remember what was in each section, so I was hoping to be listening with Audible and you know how THAT went. Once I get my MP3 player, I'll have a learning curve, then I'll be back in the game.

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments Almeta wrote: "Janice, I still don't have my copy. I can talk about the weather to keep you company!☻ .."

LOL! The sky is clear, son is shining, and it looks t be a gorgeous day.

Okay, I'll be patient.

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments Debra, I'm a member of the GR's group, Audiobooks. There are discussion threads about what people use to listen to audiobooks. There seem to be quite a few who use the Sansa Clip. You may get some good pointers on using it there.

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
Thanks Janice. I'll check it out!

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments Since I didn't take notes on this one along the way like I do sometimes, I have decided to follow Janice along with her comments (and any others) on the chapters in order * thanks for numbering them, Debra! ...and let the story play out again in an attempt to not get ahead of the narrative checkpoints with my comments.
I am brimming with ideas for my comments for my final feelings, I hope I remember them all when we get there together. :)

We had a few gorgeous days here as well, in spite of the prediction of thunderstorms for the 4th of July.

Mother Nature has decide to dump the rain on us while we sleep and then steam it off during the sunny day!

Okay, okay...I've started the book today.

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
I just couldn't resist picking up a signed edition of this book to add to my King's Famdamly collection. I've got a signed one by Owen King, too. Nothing by Tabitha, tho.

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments Awesome! Someone else on YLTO got a signed edition too.

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
My MP3 player should be here any day now. Not looking forward to the learning curve, but will be happy to finally have it and Audible's NOS4A2.

After a bit of a fight, I was finally able to get my PC to recognize my new MP3 player and get NOS4A2 downloaded to it. Now I just have to find the time to listen to it between now and the end of August. I'm looking forward to it, tho!

Glad you liked it, Shannon. Horns was very good, and I've heard good things about Heart-Shaped Box, which I've got on my bookshelf from the library.

Once you get started on it, you won't be able to stop. Kate Mulgrew is fabulous. The voice she give Manx is downright creepy!

I think this is a "read twice" book; once for the thrill-ride story (which I think should be audio) and then again for the covert AND overt references to Hlll's, King's and other author's works.

I suspect there is much that I missed as the homages abound. In danger of becoming a NOS4A2 geek, help!

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments You and me both, Almeta. :)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) I read it a couple weeks ago, liked it a lot! I'll try to join in the discussion, off to catch up on the threads now :)

message 36: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments Yes! I think two versions of this book are a must. I reluctantly sent the audio of NOS4A2 back to the cloud on my phone yesterday. I had to listen to a little snippet again first. I am enjoying skipping around in the Kindle version now for this thread.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 598 comments Reading this thread makes me want to really read this book, actually I think I want to listen to the audio, so I checked out my local library to reserve the book and they only have it on electronic download, which I can download to my Nook, but there are 19 people ahead of me and the library only has 2 copies!! ARgghhh!!!

Not sure what I'm going to do, maybe I should just reserve it - and I probably won't get it until October!!!

It is a pretty quick read, so you'll probably move up the queue quickly.

Be sure to reserve it no matter what else you do!

And no matter when you read it, come back here to talk with us about it.☺

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments Linda: I predict you will be glad you read it! Your situation illustrates one of my main frustrations with audio downloads from the library. They are rarely available when I am ready to start a book, and often when on my hold list, the audio books will come available when very inconvenient since you can't really plan for "when" your turn comes up. Good Luck!

Janice (jamasc) | 801 comments I'm glad that you finally had a 5 star read, Josee. That was a drought, for sure! And what a great book on which to end that drought.

Yay! I gave it 5 stars, too. Awesome!

Michelle (mhomer616) | 28 comments I am a little behind on this book, had a very hectic July...I am only on page 138. I will say, I was tickled to death that Virginia Tech was mentioned...this is the school that the mom of one of the snatched little girls went to. I grew up and currently live in Blacksburg, and am a graduate of VT!

The character was living in Chesapeake, VA...I love my school and community. It is very safe, even though is years past bad things have happened. But isn't that everywhere? Our average crime rate is well below the national average. Unfortunately a couple of events make my town sound unsafe. It actually is on multiple polls as the Best place to race a child, family, Best place to live, etc...

Oh Michelle I wasn't referring to anything more than the NOS4A2 abduction. I didn't mean for you to have to defend your home state. Detroit suburbanites have no room to criticize!

I might want to raise a child in Virginia...I'm not so sure that I could keep up with racing one. :)
