Nicky Downes I like to people watch. I tend to store up things I've heard people say and they may be used in future novels! but mainly I set myself goals. I love telling stories and have always had them running through my head. It's a great feeling, writing them down.
Nicky Downes I'm working on the second part of a police procedural series. it features DI Amelia Barton of the National Crime Agency. I love her as a character. She's a mum, but incredibly feisty!
Nicky Downes Knowing that someone is reading your book and enjoying it. That’s the best feeling in the world. Apart from writing ‘the end’ on your current work.
Nicky Downes I rarely get writers block. The problem I have is finding the time to write. I usually have two projects on the go. One to edit and one to write, so I flit between the two. I don’t know if that helps prevent the dreaded block.
Nicky Downes Write as often as you can. Don’t be put off by negative thoughts. Do some courses as they not only help you to improve your writing but they, also, introduce you to other writers. And you will need their help on the way. Never give up!
Nicky Downes I’m currently writing the second novel in a series about the work of a DI in the National Crime Agency’s Sex Trafficking Unit. The theme of this one is child sexual exploitation. I’d done some research on the NCA and their work, and was fascinated by it.
