I had no idea there were other YA Shakespeare retellings out there when I started writing my first adaptation—The Isle of Arden, a retelling of As You Like It—over 10 years ago. In many of Shakespeare's plays, there are usually two storylines going on, that of the parents and that of their children, usually in their teens. I chose to do my retellings based on the perspective of the kids and how they were dealing with what was happening with their parents.
