I always read poetry and loved it, so I thought a lot about my favorite poets (ee cummings, Sylvia Plath, Rainer Maria Rilke, Richard Siken) and reread their work as I drafted the book.

Using matzevot as building materials was unfortunately very common throughout Eastern and Central Europe after WW2. Just like in the book, the main square of Prague is indeed partially made from Jewish headstones.

I visited Prague for a week in 2017 with my sister. It’s a truly magical city.
