It also includes suffering, hopelessness, and many more negative emotions. A good horror story explores the nuance and complexity of these experiences. This book is definitely horrific, and many of the scenes use symbolism in order to clearly and unforgettably describe the total abandonment and intentional destruction of the youth by the elder. It is the slow and malicious crushing of innocence in this book that is so horrific, among other things. (less)
