Currently reading the book and very much enjoying it, I was just wondering for anyone that has read the series, can I just read this book on it's own or is it better to read the series? As much as I'm enjoying this book and I think it's good, I'm not that interested in reading an entire series of it and would prefer to read it as more of a stand alone. Will I be missing out on much if I do that?

Why is it that people consider this book trash? What exactly is trash fiction? I found this book extremely enriching. Filled with so much RAW emotion, unlike any novel I had ever read. Is it the improbability of these events happening? Is it the incest? I just really want to know why so many people see this book like it's trash. As if there's no such thing as family secrets, incest and shitty mothers.

This book is definitely horrific, and many of the scenes use symbolism in order to clearly and unforgettably describe the total abandonment and intentional destruction of the youth by the elder.
