A romantic winter retreat for the shifters turns into a fight with Mother Nature…and a killer.
When Adrian and Talan decide they need to spend some time alone, they drive up to a group of cabins owned by Adrian's old pack. However, instead of the romantic escapade they'd envisioned, their trip results in them finding the dead body of the caretaker, stabbed in the back.
Adrian's determination to find out what happened leads them straight into the path of a killer, who thinks nothing of shooting a wolf shifter. With Adrian bleeding in his arms, Talan vows that whoever dared to harm his mate would soon breathe their last. Now trapped in the victim's cabin, their tyres slashed and a snowstorm on the way, however will they pass the time?
Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.
When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.
During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.
Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.
She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..
This is a quick catch up with Talan and Adrian as they both feel the need for some private time and to reaffirm their bond. Life isn’t always easy when you have a pride to look after and both men are feeling a little uncertain.
Nothing ever runs smoothly and when they arrive at their weekend getaway it is to discover a dead man instead of a happy smiling caretaker. The sheriff hates shifters and the snow won’t snow won’t stop falling, not exactly the weekend Adrian had planned.
As expected Talan goes into protective mode but they still come out worse off when the murderer sets his sights on them. In between the chaos there are some tender moments as the two men get to spend time together and realise just how much they are in love and what each of them truly means to their mate.
Ugh. This one was a bust for me. Too sappy. Talan (whom I really like) and Adrian (whom I don't) are too over the top. The murder mystery was underwhelming and I actually felt bad for the "bad guy." Lastly, the ick factor: "romantic" weekend spent at a murder scene, featuring a blood-soaked carpet and blood-spattered walls. Blech!
Bottom line: Too sappy; too crappy; I'm not happy. Sorry.
This was really just a follow-up volume to the very first in this series, about that couple on vacation. But it felt nice and warm, despite the snow. ^_^
A quick romantic trip away for Talen and Adrian doesn’t quite go to plan. I love the over protective Talen and how Adrian still manages to be who he needs to be. I did find them both a bit blasé in the face of the murderer. I know that shifters could take him but they acted really weird.
Nothing to this one. Cute and sweet. bit of a bummer the murder mystery falls into the 'Here is someone you've never met and they're the killer!' pit fall. but I really like Adrian so it got an extra star.
I enjoyed reading about Talan and Adrian again. This time they go to a mountain cabin for a little getaway time together and while going to the caretakers cabin, they find him dead on the floor (Darren). This was a fun and well written mystery with a fast pace and interesting plot.
I seem to have missed a book here, but you don't need to read #4 for this, you do need to read #1 though. Adrian decides to surprise Talan with a weekend away just for the two of them at some cabins Adrian's family owns. They are both feeling kind of needy and need to reconnect. However when they arrive they find the caretaker dead and the local sherriff not inclined to care much. When Adrian is shot, they know something is up and hole up in the dead man's cabin. When a young man lost in the blizzard shows up, well yeah. Guess. It isn't a threesome.
Most of this is Talan and Adrian recommitting of sorts, some hot sex, the mystery of who killed the cousin. My only point was Talan kills the other man and they just kind of toss his body out in the snow and go about having sex. Don't you have to explain why you killed a human to the police, who hate shifters' guts? So the guy had some kind of "shifter poisoning" that made him crazy, still. So there wasn't much too it, it whipped through sex, mystery, drama, sex pretty quickly.
3.5 stars I admit that this is rather lovey-dovey, as Talan and Adrian (from From Pack to Pride) try to get some alone time, by going to a cabin, just the two of them, and rekindle their relationship. Except some honey-sweet moments and multiple terms of endearments. Having said that, it's pretty breezy and quick read and the two men are cute enough for me to avoid sugar-inducing coma. If you love Talan and Adrian, you definitely want to read this one.
“You know what I say when people ask me what is the most important thing I have?” Adrian swallowed the lump in his throat over the love blazing from his lion’s eyes. “What?” “I tell them my biggest treasure is my mate. Cars, houses, and cash mean nothing if I don’t have you by my side. You’re my everything.”
I love Talan and Adrien. It was sweet how nurturing and protective they were of each other. It's hard to imagine such a bossy dominant mate like Talan feeling insecure about his place in Adrien's life (and vice versa), but the way they reassured each other and renewed their mating bond was hot :)
Adrian and Talan are my fave couple in this series but this installment with them just didn't do anything at all for me. It was rather confusing and I didn't think it concentrated on their relationship all that much.
A short little read about Talan and Adrian on a romantic getaway that turns a little dangerous when they stumble upon the corpse of Adrian's cousin in the caretaker cabin and Adrian is later shot. Overall a nice little addition to Adrian and Talan's story.
One of the best in the series. It almost felt like it was written by someone else. The editing was actually good, the story was interesting and there were actually some exciting moments. I wish the whole series were like this.
