February 14, 2013wow I didn't even know there was going to be anymore, looking forward to this, but I can't say I remember this character :S

I wish that Ren would be around for this book, I really do, I feel his death was not necessary and wasn't really needed to build up the plot, if anything it took so much away from the book. I have never left reading a book so sad or unjustified yes I really was that upset he died, yes I also understand its a book but when a book leaves you feeling sick it really isn't worth recommending to anyone and I love to recommend books to people and I really really wish the character would have lived, the story would have been better in my opinion, but to just kill off a character so there isn't the strange love triangle anymore is unjust!
Sorry I know there are ppl out there who love the idea but I'm not one of them.

February 17, 2013Hmmmm after Bloodrose, I'm not sure if I'm reading anymore Nightshade books. I never, EVER got over what happened. *cries out Ren's name* So I'll be waiting for reviews with this one.

-I wasn't a big fan of the Nightshade trilogy, it was enjoyable enough but the ending kind of ruined it for me. I hated that the main characters all ended up turning into wolves forever. I'm hoping this series eventually has them turning back into humans… Otherwise what was the point of everything they went through if they don't remember and don't get to live human lives?
-Snakeroot focused mainly on Adne (Ren's sister) and the Searchers. I liked Adne as a side character in the original series, and I thought she'd make a decent main character but unfortunately, she didn't. She was boring and selfish, she kept things to herself, and was generally TSTL. She also turned into a Mary Sue. Yea, rubbish heroine = rubbish book.
-There were way too many POV's. Though I have to admit the multiple POV's were handled well and the story managed to flow smoothly… However, the lack of focus on each character meant there wasn't much room for character development, which made things even more dull and predictable.
-I was annoyed that the Big Bad (Bosque Mar/the Keepers) in this book was the same Big Bad who was meant to have been dealt with in the Nightshade trilogy. There was a whole epic battle to get rid of him, so him coming back means it was all for nothing… So yea, that's annoying.
In this one Bosque Mar was trying to get back into the human world by using Adne and Logan, he was plaguing their dreams and forcing them to do his evul bidding. He still had power over everyone and managed to manipulate things to his own benefit - I was just left thinking what was the point of getting rid of him in the first series when he was still pulling all the strings and destroying lives?!
-It was a cop out bringing Ren back as a character (even if he was a ghost), he was killed off in the last series so that should have been the end of him — there were no ghosts in the Nightshade world before Ren, it was pretty obvious he was only bought back to appease Ren fans.
-I would have preferred Snakeroot more if there'd been a new bad guy. The fact that Bosque Mar was still a threat made the big showdown, the sacrifices, the prophecy, and the many deaths in the Nightshade series seem meaningless.
-Connor and Ethan were boring, they pretty much had the same personality. Sabine was the only character that I found somewhat interesting.
-I hated Sarah (Shay's mum). She was irritating and full of self-pity. Shay might have permanently turned into a wolf but he was still alive and well, she should have been glad that he hadn't died in the war against Bosque - loads of other people did die, but she wasn't grateful for that or the fact that Shay still survived in some form.
-Tristan was a rubbish husband, he was meant to love Sarah loads but that was hard to believe when he left her alone and in danger. He should have been there for her instead of gallivanting off with a bunch of teens.
-The best thing about Snakeroot was how short a read it was.

Despite the easy read that this book was, I can't seem to muster the interest or heart to care about the characters, their "new" conflict, or the outcomes to follow.
After having read all seven of Cremer's books set in the Nightshade universe (original trilogy, prequel duology, adult erotica under pen name, and now this), I think I'm done. The conflict in this new series seems to simply be a resurrection of the one that the author resolved in her first trilogy. Because of that, I don't feel any real tension or interest in what unfolds next.
On the positive side, Cremer has streamlined her writing significantly, with far less info-dumping and fewer purple turns of phrase. She has also done a good job linking all of the books in her different series together so that they complement one another. I worry, though, that the books to come in this series will take on the distinct feel of historical romance. Without giving too much away, this installment closes on a cliffhanger with characters on their way to the Scottish Highlands, and someone has been declared as in need of a "champion" to help save her. My brow...it furrows in concern.

CATCHALL
After Bloodrose, I was hesitant to read this book, but I found it better than I could have ever hoped for. It’s a captivating book with an incredible set of characters and an even more intriguing storyline. I loved every minute I spent reading it, and I don’t have a moment of regret that I picked this book up.
THE HEROINE
ADRIADNE
And is a badass, stellar young woman who struggles in this book against darkness that threatens to claim her. She’s always known exactly who she is, but now, she’s fighting alone against forces she doesn’t understand. Still, I really fell in love with her. Anne’s strong, and she’s not going to give in so easily.
THE LOVE INTEREST
CONNOR
Connor is still the same character I loved in the Nightshade series, with his quips that often lighten the mood. But now we really get to see that his character is actually a lot deeper than it first appears. He struggles with his relationship with Adne, as well as the fact that he wants to protect her but she won’t let herself be protected.
THE SECONDARY CHARACTERS
RENIER
I love Ren. This is no secret to those who know me well. He has an attitude, and he has his own agenda more than just following the one that was set for him. He works as well as he can to mess with Logan’s plan, and he struggles with the fact that he can’t do everything he wants to. But he’s not giving up so easily, either.
SABINE
I adore Sabine, but she’s unrecognizable from the girl we met in the Nightshade books. She’s strong, confident, and finally knows who she is. She’s protective and strong, and knows the extent of her ability to help.
SARAH
The moment I met Sarah, I knew I’d be able to relate to her, and I was right. She’s a grieving woman who misses her son, and I found her pain perfectly understandable. She wants to do anything to get him back, and in the process forgets who she is. Like any grieving person, though, she eventually comes out of it stronger.
LOGAN
Logan is the clear villain in the story, but because we also see the story through his eyes, we get a good sense of what he’s planning and what he’s willing to do to get there. He’s ruthless in his own way, and has a violent streak. But there’s also more to him than that.
THE PLOT
Logan wants to find a way to bring Bosque Mar back, which seems like it would be boring. But it’s not. Not at all, actually. The story is written in such a way that it’s impossible to be bored.
While Logan’s busy with that, the Searchers race to stop him. Yet they don’t know exactly what they’re stopping, or even if anything needs stopping. With the Keepers scattered, they struggle to find their new place in the world, and there’s inner turmoil as well. The Searchers can’t agree on anything, it seems, and that divides them further.
It’s beautifully written, and that makes it such a pleasure to read. It’s an entertaining, intriguing story that drew me deeper with every page.
THE ROMANCE
The romance in this book was tasteful and not overbearing in any way. Connor and Adne are perfect together, and yet their romance isn’t an easy one. There are a lot of obstacles in their way, made worse by the fact that they’re not always prepared to face them together. But, given some time, I think Connor and Adne will find that the best way to go forward is together.
THE WRITING
Andrea’s writing has improved immensely since Nightshade. She flourishes under this new style of third person omniscient as opposed to first person and it’s beautiful. Despite not being directly inside each character’s head, we nonetheless get a really great sense of who they are and what they’re thinking. The continuation of the world-building is stellar, and are the characters.
THE ENDING
I loved the way Snakeroot ended. It hit the perfect balance of cliffhanger and wrapping up the story neatly. Enough happened that it didn’t feel like a filler book, and yet by the end I was gripping the book and hoping for more.
WRAPUP
Snakeroot was a beautiful continuation to the Nightshade series, and I’m glad it exists. I’ll definitely be reading the next book. I’d recommend it to any fans of Nightshade, and I’d also recommend it to people who are new to the series. It’s that good.

After Reading Review
The truth about Ren: A lot of people read Aftermath, which happens to be the first two chapters of Snakeroot (total rip-off, if you ask me). In Aftermath, Adne sees Ren in wolf form and this led to a total chaotic spur in the Nightshade-readers-Ren-fans group. A ton of us wanted to believe that Ren is alive and that somehow, he magically didn't die in the war. But truth be told . Guys, it's not really a spoiler; you'll figure it out in the first three chapters anyway.
What a sec. "Fans asked for it, now they get it"? When did we ask for another book? If anything, I only asked that Ren could be alive. I didn't ask for a f**king Nightshade Legacy Series.
The book has two plotlines, really: 1) The return of Bosque (yes, he comes back AGAIN. He's probably the biggest bad guy that appears in all three parts of the series) and 2) the conflict in power between the searchers. I personally felt that Snakeroot just didn't GIVE as much to the readers as the other five books (Yup, I read the three from the Nightshade series then the other two from the prequel). This book didn't have the suspense from Nightshade or the intense romance from Rise. Snakeroot was pretty plain in comparison.
I can assure you all that there will be a sequel to this. I thought Snakeroot would be a stand-alone book, but apparently not.
Another war has just begun... and there really never seems to be an end.
(Please just finish this series already).

January 13, 2014I can't wait for it but I hope somehow Calla and the pack are in it. The epilogue kind of made me sad cause I wanted to know more about what happened once they became wolves fully. I want to know if the remember anything or can somehow have their powers back. Seeing the other comments others will probably hate me for saying this but even though I cried when Ren died I was Team Shay.
I haven't read the prequels but the Nightshade novels did not disappoint me and I really hope this doesn't either

This book was fairly interesting I must admit. I love all thw twists and turns and all the choices the characters must face.
I loved the original Nightshade trilogy and I really liked the Nightshade prequel duology. So I was really happy to see that Mrs. Cremer is continuing the series. I know how Mrs. Cremer ends her series, with a hopeful yet depressing attitude.... so I expect to get a little depressed in this new series.
I had high hopes going into this book and was pretty dissappointed when I saw how small this book is. I'm not exactly sure if i'm a giant fan of how each chapter has different perspectives from different characters. Though it seems to work out for this series.
Logan Bane is definetely a whole lot cooler in this series i must admit. I also must admit I hate the fact of Calla not being the protagonist anymore, though she is mentioned a lot in this book.
I look forward to the next installment of the Nightshade Legacy series.

March 10, 2013I don't know why she's continuing the Nightshade books. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, but after the last one I just felt that the story had come full circle and was complete. I don't know if I'll be reading this or not.

Before reading:
Can't believe I'm really considering reading this... I may reevaluate when it actually comes out. Serious trepidation here!!
After reading:
Okay, so now that I’ve read it, I had good reason to be leery :( This has to be one of the most unnecessary, stupid, and infuriating sequels EVER! Though I had my issues with BLOODROSE, it was a good ending to the Rift/Bosque Mar issue. I’m not sure why on earth it needs to be revisited AGAIN!! This seems like back-treading--nothing new is added and didn’t we have enough of in RIFT/RISE?!! The story in SNAKEROOT seems to be negating the whole premise/climax of the original trilogy with the Scion, etc. I also thought the characters suffered here and were not nearly as likable as in earlier books. I liked Sabine and Ethan, but I found Adne and Connor to be beyond annoying and infuriating! I’m guessing Ms. Cremer is trying to make them into the new, even more irritating, Calla and Shay??
And, sure, I’m thrilled to see , but it ended up being quite unsatisfying and like salt in an open wound :( Not only is ? This book had the opposite effect for me--it actually reminded me of how livid I was over BLOODROSE and made me angry all over again :( I think the author should have just left the trilogy alone and not reopened the story--especially when NOTHING new is offered here and the plot is just going over the same garbage yet again!! And, darn it, I want !! I’m tired of --maybe it’s been too soon since I read RIFT/RISE or I’m just tired of reading the same thing over and over and yelling at the characters in the book to stop being SO stupid and make better decisions!! Enough is enough! And, I heard this plot is going to be stretched into 2 more books?! Gah!!!
The only semi-satisfying thing in this book is that apparently ?! That did put a BIG smile on my face for a couple of pages, along with ! But, unfortunately, these few awesome things didn’t outweigh the irritating stuff :(
Though SNAKEROOT is a quick read (was this book even 275 pages, with all those blank/filler pages between the chapters removed?!), it was a struggle for me to get through for sure. I hate to admit that it largely seemed like a complete waste of time and money to me :( I also hate to admit that I probably will read the next 2 books anyway--I’m a glutton for punishment and I just have to find out where Cremer finally leaves things with !

Okay, so now that I’ve read it, I had good reason to be leery :( This has to be one of the most unnecessary, stupid, and infuriating sequels EVER! Though I had my issues with BLOODROSE, it was a good ending to the Rift/Bosque Mar issue. I’m not sure why on earth it needs to be revisited AGAIN!! This seems like back-treading--nothing new is added and didn’t we have enough of in RIFT/RISE?!! The story in SNAKEROOT seems to be negating the whole premise/climax of the original trilogy with the Scion, etc. I also thought the characters suffered here and were not nearly as likable as in earlier books. I liked Sabine and Ethan, but I found Adne and Connor to be beyond annoying and infuriating! I’m guessing Ms. Cremer is trying to make them into the new, even more irritating, Calla and Shay??
And, sure, I’m thrilled to see , but it ended up being quite unsatisfying and like salt in an open wound :( Not only is ? This book had the opposite effect for me--it actually reminded me of how livid I was over BLOODROSE and made me angry all over again :( I think the author should have just left the trilogy alone and not reopened the story--especially when NOTHING new is offered here and the plot is just going over the same garbage yet again!! And, darn it, I want !! I’m tired of --maybe it’s been too soon since I read RIFT/RISE or I’m just tired of reading the same thing over and over and yelling at the characters in the book to stop being SO stupid and make better decisions!! March 5, 2013I screamed when I saw this. I have a bad habit of doing this. Luckily I am always alone when I do this :D So excited for this book. I just figured Bloodrose was the final book. Didn't it even say the final installment on the actual cover slip itself ?_!
Also I am really hoping that this book series will become a movie. It has been a while since I've seen a wolf type of movie. It always seems to be about vampires :D

Okay so first off- AMAZING COVER. I love all of Andrea's covers; simply awesome. However, her fantastic covers can't make up for the fact that she ended Blood Rose with Calla and her pack becoming normal wolves, with no humanity. I mean come on! When I read the ending, i was literally like

The one half is extremely happy simply because I was super sad when I read the last book of the Nightshade series(or so i thought it was the last), and I want to know what happens to everyone. Oh. My. Goodness.
Just when I thought the Nightshade series couldn't possibly get any better, Andrea Cremer came out with two fabulous new additions that completely blew me away. In November 2013, I had the pleasure of reading her adult paranormal romance set in the Nightshade universe, Captive, and guys, it was absolutely amazing! And just recently, I was lucky enough to get invited to take part in the blog tour for Snakeroot (published in December 2013). Needless to say, I didn't think twice. I consider myself a huge fan of Cremer's addictive writing style and brilliant imagination, and so I knew I just had to be part of this.
Snakeroot did not disappoint. To be perfectly honest, I think I enjoyed it even more than I did the original Nightshade Trilogy, perhaps because it wasn't weighed down by Calla's convoluted love triangle. This book was just as exciting, captivating and packed with action, tension and mystery as all the previous Nightshade books, but it was also better plotted and more unpredictable than the other novels. With each chapter, comes a mind-blowing surprise or unexpected reveal. With each page turned, you find yourself drawn deeper and deeper into the story. And, most importantly, you're back in the oh-so-very-familiar world of Guardians, Keepers and Searchers, re-visiting places you know and love, even meeting characters you thought you'd never meet again! What a fabulous reading experience that was! For someone already familiar with the Nightshade world and all the characters, it's a real treat! I can honestly say that there wasn't a single thing about Snakeroot that I didn't love.
The story takes place few weeks after the events of the Nightshade Trilogy, not long after Shay closed the Rift that separated the human world from the Nether realm. Adne (Ren's sister) and Logan (Bosque Mar's son) are both haunted by visions and nightmares involving Bosque Mar, who - trapped in the Nether by Calla and other Guardians - tries desperately to find a way out. Logan, together with Audrey and Chase, are trying to open the passage to the Nether in order to gain their power back. Adne, haunted by Bosque Mar, is doing everything in her power to stop that from happening. Powerful forces are about to clash yet again. Will Adne be strong enough to resist Bosque Mar's calls? Will Logan find a way to get his power back and become the new leader of the Keepers?
First of all, Snakeroot is extremely well written, but that shouldn't surprise anyone, given how wonderfully talented a writer Andrea Cremer is. Her stories are completely addictive, unputdownable, gripping and emotionally affecting. They are also simply entertaining and extremely fun to read. She skilfully expands the Nightshade universe, adding new layers of depth, introducing us to new, exciting plot lines and characters, and utilizing the already fabulously fleshed out settings and ideas. It all works like magic. You almost feel like you're reuniting with good, old friends. Now, I don't know about you, but I love that about books that are part of a bigger series.
As far as characters are concerned, Snakeroot has some great surprises up its sleeve. Readers will be delighted to find out that some of our favorite characters make their appearance in this book. And not only Adne, Sabine, Connor, or the bad guys we so love to hate, Bosque Mar and Logan. However, as much as I would love to rave about who and in what circumstances appears in the book, I can't. It would be too much of a spoiler! But trust me when I say, you won't be disappointed!!!
All in all, Snakeroot is a fabulous new addition to the Nightshade universe. Cremer nailed it yet again. You'll devour this book within one afternoon and will surely be left craving more. To me, Snakeroot was even better - more satisfying and breathtaking - than Bloodrose. Fans of Nightshade series will LOVE this one!

After the awful ending to Bloodrose where the Searchers and Calla's group of Guardian's met and defeated the Keepers and Bosque Mar at the expense of a BUNCH of characters, I, like millions of others thought that this series was finished for good. I mean, what was the point of continuing onward when your characters have won, and they get their HEA just the way Cremer wrote it right?
Calla, Shay, Nev, Mason, Ansel, and Bryn all decided to choose to become wolves full time, even though it apparently wasn't supposed to happen to Shay as well. It did and they trotted off into history books where they will never be seen or heard from again while Sabine stayed behind with the Searchers and Ethan without her inner wolf right. Apparently things quickly change in the world of publishing and there is a need to torture readers further. I'm still waiting for baby wolves to appear between the pages and learn that they're Calla & Shay's. I mean, wolves do mate mate right?
Cremer has since written two other novels in the Nightshade series and called them prequels (Rift and Rise). She's written a novella called Aftermath which apparently takes place RIGHT after Bloodrose and features Ariadne being haunted by her past actions, Logan running for his life, and the Searchers still not feeling all that safe. Huh, and yet, did they NOT defeat and send Bosque back to the Nether and everything was supposed to be hunky dory?
Apparently none of this matters in a world where Cassandra Claire also decided that THREE books just wasn't enough and therefore an additional TRILOGY was needed to sell even more books, and make even more money. Apparently this is true for Cremer as well especially since her new TRILOGY called Nightshade Legacy, focuses on the SAME characters except now Calla is in the background, and Ariadne, Logan, Sarah Doran, and OOPS, a character who was presumably dead, but he's not really dead dead, are the main characters!
Snakeroot picks up a month or so after the so called end of the Witches War. Shadows visit Adne in her sleep which cause problems for her and Connor who she is with and Logan is feeling regrets about his position, his fading powers, and what he did to Bosque in helping seal the deal and sending him back to the Nether. Adne becomes so obsessed with Bosque, that she really allows herself to become like Eira in Rise. You remember Eira don't you? The same Eira who gave up everything and fell into bed with Bosque both metaphysically, and physically. The same Eira who opened up the veil to EVIL incarnate and spawned Mars bloodline which leads down to Logan and Shay because she believed he LOVED her.
While everyone is excited about THAT character returning, I am seriously wondering if this is Cremer's way of apologizing to readers for tearing our hearts out of our chests and stomping on them. I am one of those readers that truly believes that once a VILLAIN is defeated, move on! Create a new character that perhaps is even nastier, and evil(er) as the first. Create new characters that haven't already been through the battles of their lives and barely lived to tell about it.
I hope it apparent by now that I will not be reading any further books in this series no matter how hard I desire to find out if Adne turns into Eira and falls for Bosque's BULLSHIT and therefore starts yet another war. Although I would love to see what happens to THAT character, I'll wish readers well in finding out if HE gets his HEA or will Cremer once again bring Calla & her pack back. I will not be recommending this series to anyone, and I hope that one day soon Cremer finds that enough is enough, and moves onto something entirely different and stays there.

I received this book from Penguin Young Readers program in exchange for an honest review. I award this book 3.5 stars. This review will contain spoilers from the Nightshade trilogy.
Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer takes place after the Nightshade trilogy. Calla and friends are now wolves, so they are no longer part of the story. In fact, this book is written in third person omniscient, so we get to see in the heads of multiple characters. Adne and Logan have both been haunted in their dreams by Bosque Mar, who is using his wiles to get back into the world. Not only that, but there are side plots involving Shay's mother, who wants him back and a certain character who comes back to join the fray.
This was a decent installment in the series. It was fast paced, and I really liked some of the twists that Cremer decided to add in. I think the fans will be pleased with it. I think that her writing has grown stronger over time, and the description was well done. It was nice also not to be in the head of a wolf.
That said, I think it's time for me to stop reading this series. This world and story just seems to be a bit of a retread of what has happened before, and I can't help but think that this is just to appease the fans, rather than be a book that the author wants to write. Not to mention that I think this is going to be another trilogy.
Overall, an interesting follow up to the Nightshade trilogy, and one that I think fans will really like.

I loved it!! I really hope that Anda doesn't do what I think she's going to do though, and sadly the ending doesn't give any hint about that at all!! And Conner!! I LOVE YOU!!!! You where so sweet and caring in this one! Not that you weren't in BloodRose but ya know what I mean....at least I hope you do. And Longne GO AWAY NO ONE LIKES YOU!!! (Okay maybe that's not true, I kinda find you fasansting but that doesn't count as liking you so whatever) I really hope she makes another one just so we can see what happens with Logan and Andia and Conner and all the rest of them.
Sarah, oh my gosh! You were a nut job for the first 20 something chapters! Can we just not have a repeat of that? Please??? Because you were willing to trust Logan with bringing back Shay from being a wolf! Are you KIDDING ME!?! I loved Adne and Connor from their very first appearance on
actually, these two kept me reading on when I was extremly frustrated with Calla and Shay (because they are seriously annoying protagonists!)
and The Aftermath was really good... so fingers crossed this will be better than the first 3 books

It was enjoyable to go back into the world of Nightshade. Glad to see the characters back again. Hope Adne will be saved soon.

I'm so excited! LOVE the way this series is continued, but I get how not everyone likes/will like it. However, I do like it and I'm looking forward for the next two books in the Nightshade Legacy.
Reading this made me realise how much I love the characters and the story as well. Many details which all come together in a well thought out storyline.
I won't say anymore because of spoilers and stuff BUT: If you love great and lovable characters, sneaky plot twists and an action-packed story with humor and some cheesy romance, you will love these books. What more can I say.

Even though this is listed as Nightshade Legacy #1 this is still the 4th book in the Nightshade series. There will be spoilers from Bloodrose (book 3) and Aftermath (novella that took place after Bloodrose).
I see that the first chapter of this book IS the Aftermath novella.

This book is 3rd person narration and includes a bunch of different narrators: Adne, Connor, Logan, Sabine, Sarah, Ren.
I loved the Nightshade series until about 3/4 of the way through the third book. That last 1/4 upset me more than probably any book that I can remember. I was crushed. Ren was dead. Calla, Shay and the others were now permanently wolves. And I was in shock.
Then I read Aftermath (the novella that the author wrote after Bloodrose). Calla and Shay were still full-time wolves (still dislike this). But in the very last paragraph Adne saw her brother (Ren). This got me very curious. So it's basically for this reason that I am taking a chance on Snakeroot.
I'm not really sure what to say about this new book. It is very short. Even though it is 307 pages there are about 3 pages at the end of each chapter that are either blank or just list the title. So that makes it basically 200 pages. I really feel like this book needed to be longer.
In Snakeroot Adne is haunted by nightmares. So she is not really herself.
After being stunned by the end of Bloodrose and then reading Aftermath I had questions about two things. 1)What happened to Shay/Calla (the wolves) and 2)What was up with Ren?
I think that those fans who want more Shay and Calla will be disappointed. We do get to see them as wolves very briefly. But this story is not really about them. And we definitely don't get their POVs.
Those fans who want to know more about Ren will be more excited. He is in this book a fair amount. So that made me very happy.
But since the book is short we don't really get a proper conclusion. I am not sure how many books this new series is supposed to be. But I would have rather just had one longer book that tied up all of the loose ends. I want some type of resolution for Shay and Calla (I wish we could hear what they were thinking).
I think that those who were disappointed by Bloodrose might get some comfort from this new book.

So it's fairly evident by the fact that I've read all the Witches War Books (getting to Captive) that I'm committed to take off and am willing to go the distance with this series no matter how bad it gets. I was never fond of the first trilogy. All three landed three stars and under, this also includes the novella's put out between books. Despite not having written reviews for
Rift
and
Rise
, you might notice that both have landed 4 stars. I feel like in both novels, Andrea Cremer upped her game to the point where I felt the duo-logy redeemed most of the mess from the previous books. Both filled the missing holes from the trilogy without being a mess of info dump every single chapter. That being said,
Snakeroot
only hit two and a half stars for me.
With Calla out of the picture, Andrea Cremer seems to have abandoned the first person narrative something I liked about the duology and Snakeroot . Getting to see how things play out through the eyes of a few others seems to make Andrea's world wider. We get to see how Sabine is adjusting to Searcher life with out it feeling like a text book lesson. Other narrators include; Connor, Sarah, Logan and Adne, the latter two who we spend the most time with. Adne fills in most of the Searchers side of the story, while Logan is leading the Keepers.
So why two stars? First off, I felt cheated by the first chapter. A while ago, after Bloodrose was done, Andrea Cremer wrote a little novella called Aftermath which finishes up the series nicely. I gave that one two stars because at the time of me reading it, I found out about Snakeroot . It has the main cast of Searchers doing clean up at the Bosque Mar estate, visiting the wolves and Adne seeing the ghost of Ren. If Cremer left it at that, things would have been different for me. However, after spending $3 on that novella believing that Andrea Cremer was finally putting the Witches War to bed, only to have it be a near word for word replica of Snakeroot s Chapter One, it felt like a cheap move. Why not just save it as a chapter spoiler for the release of Snakeroot ?
Honestly, while stronger than the first trilogy, I also don't feel that this is anything above two stars. The book leaves us in a cliff hanger for what appears to be another trilogy.

July 24, 2013AHHHHH as usual the cover is BOOT-I-FUL!!!!! Although I'll have to admit, this one's slightly creepier with the vines? Roots? crawling up her neck. And in the summary it says: Will Adne go to the dark side? (or something like that) so I'm wondering if it will be kinda like how Bosque Mar...erm...seduced? brain-washed? changed? Eira in the prequels. (Oh, goodness, I hope not. Don't get me wrong, I thought in a really REALLY weird way that the romance between Bosque and Eira was kinda sweet, but I think that Bosque never really loved Eira, more like a manipulated ally just to bind him to the earth. I hope he doesn't do that to Adne<---like that name) And I wonder if there will be a love triangle? Sigh. Sadly no more werewolves due to the way Andrea ended the Bloodrose. Don't get me wrong, I'm not extremely depressed about how that ended. (Well, if you exclude the REN DYING.) But I got why they had to turn back into wolves, you know nature and what not. And since there aren't any more Seekers/ahh I forgot what the second group was called! Keepers? what does that make Adne and Logan? I suppose they could be normal humans... and I wonder if Calla will show up as a wolf? Sigh. Probably not. (Is she already dead in this book???) I don't know, but I have high expectations, Andrea, so this better be good! :)

This is one of those books I had to take a deep breath and brace myself for before reading. Andrea Cremer blew me away with her debut novel, Nightshade when I first started blogging. I raved about this book, but I became increasingly frustrated with the characters and at the end of that series, I was heartbroken. Destroyed. In the worst way possible.
And then I heard a little rumor about this book that gave me this flutter of hope. And since it happens in the beginning of the book, I don’t see it as spoilery:
Ren is ALIVE.
Sort of. We’ll get to that. But Ren plays a huge part in Snakeroot and I’m sure the rest of the series. For you Ren fans, that may be reason enough to pull you back into this incredible world that Cremer has created. But there’s more.
This obviously takes place after the events of the original Nightshade trilogy. And while we were stuck in Calla’s head for that series, Cremer pulls back and we get a glimpse of the bigger picture and see what’s happening in this world now that things have fallen apart. Adne is a huge part of the reason Ren is back, and I feel like this will be Adne’s story—Adne is Ren’s half-sister, for those who may have forgotten.
My heart is still fragile after the way it was crushed my last time around with Cremer. But I’m willing to give this a go because I adore the way Andrea Cremer writes a story and creates a world. It’s magic and beautiful and so vivid. Everyone needs to go read this. Read and adore Cremer’s books, and know that the Ren fans now have hope.

This book is either going to be a hit or miss for fans. If you were ticked off with Bloodrose, you may not want to continue on. For Ren fans … I'm sorry, but I'm not saying anything, and if you read No. 3.5, I'm still not saying anything. OK, so Snakeroot takes place after the Nightshade trilogy. I definitely don't recommend starting this book without having read the Nightshade books. Adne (Ren's sister) is the heroine, and we have Logan as the main hero. Their dreams are being haunted by Bosque Mar, who is trying to escape from the Nether where the Guardians trapped him. This installment is more fast-paced, and it was interesting to read about the NS world from a non-wolf perspective.
