When Liona stumbles upon Beck, the ogre's, trap and becomes his prisoner, she's determined to get away. But it doesn't take long for things to start heating up between the two. Beck is trying to protect her, and Liona can't help her body's reaction to the buff green monster. Get In My Swamp is a dark fantasy romance between a snarky young woman and a brute green ogre. While fun, the story includes elements that might not be suitable for some readers. Abduction (non-consensual bondage), consensual bondage, incest, mention/description of past trauma (child abuse, neglect, suicide), cheating, and violence are present in the novel. Readers who may be sensitive to this content, please take note.
this book is great in the way that you’re like “nah i could never want to fk an ogre” and then you have an insane fever dream and wake up and then you say to yourself “you know what.. i could and would take him if i had the chance.” 10/10
OKAY OKAY HOLD ON NOW HOLD ON LET BECK AND LIONA COOK, OKAY???
Shakespeare is quaking rn now. his pussy is shaking the roof of every house across this nation. his bones are rattling. he is tearing his hair out, just WISHING he had written something as legendary as this piece of artwork.
instead of br Throne of Glass like we were supposed to, tanaz and i read this and our lives have been changed forever.
Get in my Swamp, you will always be remembered by us.
This was not Shrek enough while also being too Shrek.
What I mean is, it was missing so many beats from the original (eg the rescuing from the castle, Fiona being a princess) while also referencing it enough to make it uncomfortable. Beck had almost none of the standoffishness of his (almost) namesake and Liona had absolutely none of the verve of hers. Donny’s character? Vile. #NotMyDonkey
Listen, I’m no stranger to monster romances. An ogre who has a bit of an underbite? That’s nothing. Basically, I read this because it was a Shrek fic, but that also made me like it less. The book never takes itself too seriously, so I can’t be too mad. It was what it said it was.
"She opens up for me like a flower in full bloom."
LISTEN, when I saw this on Twitter I knew I had to read it, as a Shrek fan, but also so no one else would have to.
It was pretty much what I expected it would be, except nobody acts like the character they're supposed to be, especially not Donkey. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??? I'm so mad about it.
Shrek is basically like a 15 year old boy discovering sex for the first time, Fiona is...concerning.
And the incest inclusion was...there for some reason??? Who even knows. I would like someone to clarify which one of them is Farquad (if any) and which Charming (if any)?
If you like Shrek I wouldn't really recommend this, because the only things in common are the swamp and that there's a hidden community of magical creatures. That's about it.
Even Shrek, who IS an ogre, is handsome and not very scary at all. Just huge and green. Fiona even says he could be a model...nah uh not OUR Shrek.
He also has a jawline so sharp that could cut diamonds by the way, thought you ought to know.
As for the writing, it was somehow even poorer than the storyline? As in lines kept getting recycled over and over again. Some of them were a pain to read, honestly.
Anyway, I think this one is around a 2.5? Not completely terrible, but also below average.
And if anyone wants a play by play of my reactions as I was reading here's my Twitter thread:
Couldn't write a detailed review because life got in the way, but I needed to say this was a simple but super funny (seriously, I cackled several times through the book) and entertaining Shrek inspired erotica. The smut was over the top and you can't avoid liking the characters, they're bizarre but endearing.
Not gonna lie, I expected a mediocre book but encountered a fantastic story to start when you want something light but good to relax (and get spicy 😏)
The book wasn't perfect but I definitely liked it.
Okay- fuckin... hear me out. Okay? One- the trigger warnings are spot on. Read them and read at your own discression. The story is fantastic, the smut is steamy, it's got some hard reality "ah fuck, yeah, I feel that" moments. The twincest/family on family, I really should have seen coming. I've seen game of thrones, I knew better. But honestly, good on Liona for being like "There's not fucking excuse to be fucking your sister" but like also, girl, go get yourself a check up, that day! the heeby jeebies are heeby jeebing. But all in all, short, funny, dark, steamy, and he said the fucking line. He said "I'm making waffles" and I lost it. Just uh... know what you're getting into before you get into it.
I don’t know what I expected, but it was not this. This book is everything I never knew I needed. Beck can absolutely get in my swamp (RIP me. I am horrified at myself). I had the best time reading. I laughed my ass off and I literally squealed and threw my phone several times. The premise of the story was fun, the spice was a good time, and the twist at the end with her fiancé… I don’t have a single negative thing to say. Get in my Swamp is damn good time to read.
