Jane Jesmond writes psychological suspense, thrillers and mysteries
Her debut novel, On The Edge, the first in a series featuring dynamic, daredevil protagonist Jen Shaw was a Sunday Times Crime Fiction best book. The second in the series, Cut Adrift, was The Times Thriller Book of the Month and The Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month. Her latest novel, Her, a standalone psychological thriller was published in May 2023 and A Quiet Contagion, a disquieting contemporary mystery, will be published in November 2023.
Although she loves writing (and reading) thrillers and mysteries, her real life is very quiet and unexciting. Dead bodies and danger are not a feature! She lives by the sea in the northwest tip of France with a husband and a cat and enjoys coastal walks and village life.

Told from the POV of Jen, she attends a funeral of Nick, a man she loves but hasn't seen due to his job of being undercover in Calais. As the story progresses she finds out about how Nick came to die, and the undercover operation, as she doesn't know who to trust she goes undercover herself to find it more.
I liked the writing style, and the story was complex and kept me interested. Although complex, the author did a great job of giving the reader just enough to work it out ourselves but keeping the reveal until the end. I did work out a few bits of the story as we went along but not all of the characters involvement in the overall plot.
This is an action paced intense book from the first page. It is book 3 in the trilogy but I‘ve not read the others and didn’t think this hindered my enjoyment at all.
Jen is enjoying life and looking after the 2 girls she rescued in a previous instalment when things start to slowly feel like something isn’t right. Before she knows it, she’s found out that her friend Nick has been killed and is in Glasgow for the funeral, trying to find answers. What follows is just mad! No one is who they seem, nothing is straight forward and she ends up undercover trying to find the answers herself.
I really fell into this book, reading it in just over 2 days finding myself unable to put it down until I too had the answers! I will definitely read the first 2 books now, such an intricately written novel that will grab you and not let go.
