A pulse-pounding new Southern thriller from the author of the runaway bestseller A Flicker in the Dark.
Twenty-two years ago, Claire Campbell’s older sister, Natalie, disappeared shortly after her eighteenth birthday. Days later, her blood was found in a car, a man was arrested, and the case was swiftly closed. In the decades since, Claire has attempted to forget her traumatic past by moving to the city and climbing the ranks as an investigative journalist... until an unexpected call from her father forces her to come back home and face it all anew.
With the entire summer now looming ahead—a summer spent with nothing to do in her childhood home, with her estranged mother—Claire decides on a whim to accept a seasonal job at Galloway Farm, a muscadine vineyard in coastal South Carolina less than an hour away from where she grew up. At first glance, Galloway is an idyllic escape for Claire. A scenic retreat full of slow-paced nostalgia, as well as a place where her sister seemed truly happy in that last summer before she vanished, it feels like the perfect plan to pass the time. However, as soon as Claire starts to settle in, she stumbles across an old diary written by one of the vineyard's owners, and what at first seems like a story of young rebellion and love turns into something much more sinister as it begins to describe details of various unsolved crimes. As the days stretch on, Claire finds herself becoming more and more secluded as she starts to obsess over the diary's contents… as well as the lingering feeling that her own sister's disappearance may be somehow tied to it all.
Galloway was supposed to be a place to help her move forward, but instead, Claire quickly finds herself immersed in her own dark and dangerous past.

Stacy Willingham beguiles with her magnetic writing and atmospheric setting, drawing readers easily into a decades-old mystery where a constant sense of danger and unease brews beneath the surface. Shocking and totally twisted. Totally unique, I've never read anything like it.
A gripping Southern thriller, Stacy Willingham’s latest novel keeps you on edge from the very start.
The story follows journalist Claire Campbell, still haunted by the tragic murder of her sister, Natalie, 22 years ago. Natalie was killed by her secret older boyfriend, an event that shattered Claire’s family and drove her to escape her Southern hometown for a fresh start in New York. But after resigning from her journalism job—frustrated when a long-overdue promotion went to her best friend, Ryan—Claire finds herself reluctantly returning home when her father calls to inform her that her mother has been injured and needs care. Encouraged by Ryan to confront her past, she agrees to make the trip.
While back in town, Claire stumbles upon an undeveloped roll of film hidden in her sister’s old room. As she unravels the images frozen in time, they lead her straight to Galloway Farm—the place where Natalie worked before her death. Determined to uncover long-buried secrets, Claire takes a job at the farm, immersing herself in its unsettling atmosphere. There, she meets Mitchell, the eccentric owner with an uncanny knowledge of herbs; Liam, the charming yet mysterious farmhand; and Marcia, a silent, haunted woman who seems a shell of her former self. When Claire discovers Marcia’s hidden diary in the guesthouse where she’s staying, she becomes captivated by its cryptic pages, which hint at the farm’s dark past—one that eerily resembles a cult. The more she digs, the more she realizes that Natalie may have been caught in something far more sinister than she ever imagined. But with each revelation, Claire risks not only her sanity but also her life, as the truth about her sister’s fate threatens to upend everything she thought she knew.
Overall: A fast-paced and gripping Southern thriller, this novel delivers an addictive blend of suspense, mystery, and atmospheric tension—perfect for fans of Stacy Willingham’s work.

Fresh out of a job and still grieving the loss of her sister, Natalie, who went missing twenty-two years ago, Claire Campbell leaves New York and returns home to South Carolina, where she is confronted with unresolved questions about what really happened to her sister that fateful summer. When she decides to take a job at the local vineyard, the last place her sister ever worked, she has no idea just how many buried secrets she may unearth there.
I have zero chill when it comes to Stacy Willingham’s thrillers. The second they hit my Kindle, I am compelled to read them immediately. Although I did not love her previous book, Only If You’re Lucky, her newest did not disappoint. In fact, more than a week later, it is still living in my head, completely rent-free.
This story is incredibly haunting. The prose, atmospheric nature, dark themes, and setting all make for a really eerie backdrop within which to drop these very interesting characters. The characters themselves are fully fleshed out and could just as easily exist off the page as on; pretty scary considering one or more of them may be murderers.
Willingham keeps the reader on their toes consistently. There were so many fantastic twists and turns along the way, many of which I did not see coming. When it is over, you can look back and see the breadcrumbs missed; everything making sense when all is said and done. If I have just one small criticism, it is that the pacing was slightly wonky, with a few chapters feeling much slower than others. That said, I was able to quickly push past that issue because of how engaged I was with the overarching story.
Of note, there is one aspect of the writing itself that I am still incredibly confused about. The journal Claire finds and reads is told entirely in the 3rd person, not 1st. I have never seen that before, and I am still questioning the decision to do so.
I had originally given this book a solid 4.5 star rating rounded up, which I felt good about. But given the fact that I cannot stop thinking about the plot or characters, I had to bump it up to the full five stars.
Read if you like: ▪️domestic suspense ▪️true crime vibes ▪️family dramas ▪️southern thrillers ▪️isolated settings ▪️binge-worthy books
Her sister disappeared many years ago & she moved away to start over. She finally comes back to town & ends up being drawn to the place her sister worked before she died. Finding clues along the way that what she thought happened to her sister may be wrong.
This is actually a slower thriller, but I still really enjoyed it. She slowly finds more and more puzzle pieces that keep you wondering what is going on. I will say my initial feelings of what might have happened proved to be right in the end but with a lot of wild details.
There were moments in the 2nd half of this book where I was thoroughly creeped out and scared, because this was written very well. I also felt like I was reading true crime with the way it was written, because it was just so believable of a story. It was also so intricate with every detail connecting and meaning something to the overall story.
I think this one will 100% be a hit. Even though it is slower at first, it is such a great story.
Thank you to netgalley for this free advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Not only did Stacy Willingham avoid the stock characters of the small town southern crime genre, but she also pushed the boundaries with the creep factor!
I love having the thrill of fear without the actual danger. Willingham kept a great balance with her setting (Galloway Farm) and thoroughly intriguing characters such as Mitchell, Liam, and Marcia. The uniqueness of it all is so different from anything I’ve experienced that it added to what was already a compelling read. I wasn’t reading just to figure out a crime, I was reading to understand the motives and connections between her eccentric characters.
Stacy Willingham kept me in a constant tug of war; sometimes ‘not knowing’ won and I’d skip a few lines and then ‘wanting to know’ won and I’d go back and read what I realized I needed to know. Our world is full of fearful things and people, but I loved how Willingham (1) shows us how to live with being afraid, how to fight back against the fear, how to keep going and (2) challenges us to look beyond the incomprehensible choices her characters make and try to understand that it’s more than inherent weaknesses that drive them. She doesn’t just throw the creepy and gruesome out there, she holds our hand through her exploration of the darker sides of human nature.
Willingham’s attention to detail meant that it was a slower read for me, but this also meant that I could picture it. The secrets and the mystery kept the pages turning and kept me hooked.
Need some good scream therapy? You need this book.
I was gifted this copy by St. Martin's Press and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Classic Stacy Willingham-- an extremely lucky FMC, a haunting setting, a slow build up and a twisty end.
Claire is disheartened when she misses out on a promotion to her best friend Ryan. She leaves NYC and her journalism career somewhat impulsively to return to her Southern small town to spend time with her mom. We learn early on that her older sister Natalie was killed years ago as a high school senior by her secret older boyfriend and that Claire carries guilt about this. Claire doesn't have a lot of responsibilities and no health care, so she fortuitously goes to work at a grape farm 45 minutes away with no cell service or WiFi.
Ryan and Claire's mom work as good plot devices to advance the plot and help Claire solve this mystery. The setting is great and well paced, I really enjoyed the setting, the side characters are creepy and the reveals are surprising. If you suspend disbelief at some of the "right place at the right time" moments and give in to the thriller, you will enjoy it.
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC. Book to be published August 26, 2025.
Stacy Willingham does it again! Author of the fabulous A Flicker In the Dark serves up another deliciously dark and atmospheric Southern thriller with Forget Me Not.
As you meet our protagonist, Claire you learn why the young journalist has made herself a loner with only one friend to her name. She is mostly estranged from her parents. Her 18 year old sister disappeared when Claire was only 11. Having been recently passed over for a promotion she quit her job. All this piled up to carve Claire into quite a forlorn individual. When called back home from New York City to help her injured mother she begins to have to face all the issues which have been hanging over her.
All thriller readers expect a GOOD twist or two in their reads and believe me you will not be disappointed!
In her incredibly written ending the author artfully unravels all the mysteries we encounter along the reading of this story. The ending was absolutely phenomenal. In fact I have to say it is the best written ending I have read since I started reading thrillers in earnest two years ago.
I highly recommend Forget Me Not.
Thank you to Stacy Willingham, Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy.
Definitely my most favorite @stacyvwillingham book yet! If you are intrigued by cults and specifically Charles Manson, you will eat this book up!
There were multiple twists in this story, some I predicted and some made me gasp - which honestly, we love to see it! I loved the setting, and very much enjoyed the authors description of everything. It was so beautifully written. This comes out in August, and I already know it’s going to be THE book this fall.
4.25/5 This book follows investigative journalist Claire Campbell as she returns to her hometown decades after her sister Natalie vanished. Hoping to escape the past, Claire takes a summer job at a nearby vineyard, Galloway Farm, where her sister once spent her final days. But when she discovers a chilling diary that hints at unsolved crimes, Claire is pulled into a web of secrets that may be tied to Natalie’s disappearance, forcing her to confront the dark truths she’s tried to forget.
I really enjoyed this book. It had me hooked from the beginning. As a true crime fan, I really loved the eerie, cult like undertones that (for me) gave off Charles Manson “The Family” vibes. This was actually the first book I’ve read by this author but it definitely won’t be the last. The writing pulled me in, and the vivid imagery made it easy to picture everything that was happening.
One thing that did throw me off a bit was the way the diary entries were written. Instead of feeling like personal reflections, they were written in third person, which didn’t quite make sense for something Claire found and read as a diary. It did help move the story along with richer descriptions but it still threw me off a bit.
That said, overall, I’d absolutely recommend this. Thank you for the ARC!
SO MANY THINGS! This book was great! It was like a puzzle and I loved it!!! Some of the build up and background slowed the story but, it was necessary. I absolutely couldn’t put this one down and I loved it! The topic of cult-ish grooming was very interesting and it had that Manson-esque way about it. Such an intriguing story!!!
This story really sucks you in. The way Stacy places me in her settings is like no other. My jaw was on the floor at each little turn and detail revealed. I was reading at work to get to the next chapter. This one is up there fighting for the spot of my favorite Willingham novel !! Small town drama gets me every time
Stacy Willingham is ready to take her crown as the rightful Queen of Southern Suspense when FORGET ME NOT releases in August from St. Martin's Press....!
Willingham burst on to the scene with her remarkable debut A FLICKER IN THE DARK, which has gone on to sell more than a million copies... and I think now with her 4th novel she's managed to top that beloved book!
Written with a slow burn sensation and layered with the trauma of grief of a woman still reeling from her sisters disappearance 20 years earlier; she returns home to the small southern town she was raised and takes up a live-in job at the vineyard where her sister spent most of her time the summer of her disappearance; all the while investigating it on her own. Told with diary entries from the past that Claire uncovers; the novel really ramps up the pacing at the halfway mark and Willingham just lets it roar.... I had goosebumps on my arms as I turned the pages in the novel's final act. She's got a real winner on her hands 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was a good and interesting thriller. I enjoyed reading about Claire and following along on her journey. Still wishing she could find answers to her past and the murder of her sister Natalie all those years ago. Of course something happens and now it's time for Claire to return to her hometown which she really isnt sure is the greatest idea but decides to do it anyway. Once arriving home at her mother's house, she discovers an old roll of film that was never developed but once she did she discovers the Galloway Farm which was the place where Natalie worked before her death. With Claire wanting more answers about natalie she ends up taking a job at the farm. What's even crazier is once she arrives she finds a hidden diary which was from one of the people actually still there, Marcia and well of course Claire had to read it too. So what will this diary end up revealing?? Even more secrets from this mysterious farm.
This book definitely gave you that suspense and mysterious feeling along with of course just being a great thriller read that I am sure many will enjoy!
Stacy is back!! This story brought the same excitement as All the dangerous things & A flicker in the dark and is filled with layers of buried trauma, family secrets, and culty passion.
NetGalley read, but this book comes out August 2025!
Thank you to the publisher for my early copy to review. This review is unbiased & contains my own thoughts and feelings towards the story.
Claire Campbell ends up back in her hometown 22 years after her sister disappeared. This very fast paced story has a present day storyline & a glimpse into the past storyline once Claire finds a diary that may have answers to Natalie’s disappearance. I flew through this book & highly recommended checking it out in when it comes out in August.
Stacy Willingham does it again, brilliantly creating complex characters and a plot that plays out like a puzzle, coming together in a way that had me counting down until I could pick up the book again!
There’s something about a thriller set in the deep south that I can’t get enough of. I don’t know if it’s the atmosphere, the heat like tension you could cut with a knife, or the social expectations and politeness hiding secrets. If you haven’t already read her other books I can’t recommend them more! A Flicker in the Dark and All the Dangerous Things are 5 ⭐️ thriller reads in my book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for an ARC of this book!
-Thank you NetGalley for this arc from the author of my favorite thriller (All The Dangerous Things)
This thriller sees our lead following the steps of her sister from 22 years ago, the summer before she died. I will admit that it took me 40% to truly get invested (which is too long) but after that I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Lots of twists, and pretty messed up 🤣 If you like thrillers read all of Stacy’s books, including this one out this summer!
Stacy Willingham has saved 2025 thrillers for me, singlehandedly with her new release, Forget Me Not. I loved the imagery, the plot took you on a journey and gave you so many reveals along the way. This will be a summer thriller, I'll be highly recommending!
Forget Me Not is a thriller that oozes atmosphere, with a steadily building tone of menace and dread. The story starts as a slow burn, then quickly becomes a page-turner that you won’t want to put down.
The author vividly brings the primary setting to life on an isolated vineyard that drips with modern southern gothic vibes. The characters and their motivations are interesting and believable, and I especially appreciated how the unaddressed trauma of losing her sister influenced the main character’s decisions.
I enjoyed the many twists and the way the layers of secrets were revealed little by little, until everything finally came together at the conclusion. All in all, it was a thoroughly entertaining read. This was my first Stacy Willingham book, but it won’t be my last. Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur for the ARC.
AMAZING! I think this was my favorite Stacy Willingham thriller yet!
Twenty-two years ago, Claire's sister disappeared. Days later, her bloody shirt was found, a man was arrested and the case was closed. But Claire was never convinced the killer was actually caught. Years later, Claire is unemployed, and feeling stuck in NYC. When her father calls her one day asking Claire to go visit her mom who recently fell and broke her leg, Claire goes back home to South Carolina, despite the dark memories of her sister's disappearance.
Mustering up the courage to go into her sister's bedroom, Claire finds a roll of undeveloped film and old pictures of her sister at a farm called Galloway. Taking this as a lead, Claire goes to Galloway to ask around about her sister's time there, but winds up taking a job as harvesting grapes at the farm. While the owners are strange, Claire feels closer than ever to her sister. As she settles into a routine, one night, she finds a diary hidden in her cottage. As she reads this diary, she begins to wonder what else went on on this farm, who the owners actually are, and what they know about her sister. But not everything is a simple as it seems. There are darker and more sinister secrets buried at Galloway.
Claire's trip back home sets into motion a series of events that she never could have predicted. She's been avoiding her hometown ever since her sister went missing and was presumed dead. However, she discovers some items amongst her things, and she sets off to learn what happened. I went into this one totally blind, and I'm glad I did. It was a fun story, though the pacing was slightly off at times. I enjoyed how it all came together in the end.
This one was a little bit slower than what we typically see from Willingham, but I really enjoyed the story.
Claire's sister went missing when they were teenagers, and she is determined to solve the mystery. I am a sucker for any books with cult vibes, and this one fit the bill.
It had a lot of dark family drama and secrets that went a lot deeper than anticipated.
This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year so to get to read it early was such a treat! Books set in the low country are special. I can taste and feel the air while I’m reading them. Stacy Willingham has become one of my favorite authors. I love her style and this didn’t stray. It was a fast paced and intriguing thriller. Highly recommend!
I have been a fan of Stacy Willingham from the beginning, so I was excited to get an early release copy of this book!
As in all her books, there a suspense and mystery. Claire, twenty two years later is still feeling unsettled about her sisters disappearance. Having to return home to take care of her mom after she breaks her ankle, it ends up opening a whole new can of worms about the day her sister disappeared.
I enjoyed this book and as always, when I thought I had it figured out- I didn’t.
I was stressed the entire time and I loved it. I also gasped out loud twice. What else do you want out of a thriller? I feel like it's a 4 ⭐️ story, but since it got me, I owe it a 5, right? Does that makes sense? maybe not, but it's my system.
So thankful for my second ARC from this author. Every single one of her books are fantastic and I look forward to them. Love the title (you’ll learn why in the book). Stacey starts off right away hooking you into her story. This one is NO different. The middle was a little slow but it serves its purpose with twist after twist at the end. Bravo!
