The power of the written word is awesome in its influence on human minds and actions. Revolutions have been instigated, monarchs toppled, and institutions demolished by thoughts put to paper and distributed to the world. For twenty-three-year-old Jessa, it caused an epiphany that changed her life in a single night. Jessa works as an assistant librarian in a mid-sized library. Although an avid reader, her genres of choice were a far cry from the unexpected recommendation she received from the tall dark stranger. The man wasn’t unnoticed by her as he made weekly pilgrimages to exchange his books. She has never actually spoken to him but she did know that his name is Royce Baxter and is the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on. His smooth, deep voice caused her pulse to increase and her breath to shorten. When he praises a book and recommends that she read it, she agreed without the slightest hesitation or thought. The book opened a completely new world for her that has hitherto been hiding in plain sight.
Jessa either grew up in a secluded convent, completely alienated from the real world, or she spent her first two decades of life, living under a rock. A twenty-three-year-old college virgin graduate is a rare bird, hovering on the very edges of plausibility. Her ignorance of even the most basic acts and terminology of sexual coupling is an impossibility. I have no doubt that the author exercised massive amounts of poetic license for the sake of the storyline and thus the black/white contrast of Jessa’s actions. Royce’s pillow talk shows a marked lack of breeding and, if I was a woman, would certainly turn me cold. I have noticed that Lucia Jordan is the author of a massive number of sexually explicit stories and probably doesn’t spend the time or effort to produce quality over quantity. I also noticed that few readers expound neither time nor effort in writing a review on her books. I can only speculate as to the reasons, but feel that more readers should make their voices and opinions known. Perhaps a little interaction between authors and readers will be beneficial for both. I must confess that I have broken the golden rule of not judging a book by its cover. The cover fascinated me more than the words within its binding.
Royce is kinda skeevy, really. And we don't ever really see why he's so into her, even in regards to his "business proposition" at the end of the story. Jessa is super naive for 23, but if her background is as conservative as described, maybe that's understandable. Understandable or not, she's still pretty bland, though, and probably the least inquisitive library staff member I've ever encountered, real or fictional.
From the technical side of things, there were quite a few typos - hard to excuse when a book is only 40 pages. POV is alternating 3rd person, but it switches back and forth rather randomly between paragraphs. I guess it's too short to really alternate by chapters, though. Still made it feel kinda choppy.
Also, as a general rule, I'm not fond of these serial sort of books, where the first few chapters ('volume 1') are free, and then you get to pay for the next few. They've really got to grab my attention to make it worth buy the next ones. This one didn't, honestly, so no interest in the other three books in the series. On the plus side, though, this ended pretty neatly for a serial, actually.
In short, a free steamy read. No cheating, but not much plot either. Cliffhanger, but not a particularly gripping one. No HEA, just sex. A quick mindless "lunch break" sort of read.
Great series! This series was intense, captivating, and so in tune to what most of us as readers feel and hope to have in a relationship.
The plot wasn't rushed and the intimate moments throughout the series were rich in content. A beautiful librarian that realizes she's kept a part of herself locked up until one day it is released by an unexpected man.
I recommend it because although it is full of passion, we can relate to it. We sometimes have insecurities about ourselves and our capabilities and it sometimes do take virtual strangers to unleash the tigress in us...
Quickie for Valentine’s Day ... freebie - woo hoo!
I must admit, I’m not used to reading about twenty-something virgins in a CONTEMPORARY setting anymore. Of course, as rare as that might be nowadays, especially in America, it is a ray of hope that it’s not an impossibility.
Still, though, as pure as Jessa seemed, Royce thus came off as skeevy - despoiling & debauching a virgin ever so selfishly. Lust, lust, lust ... of course no wanting to know her and what makes her tick.
Not so eager to read the rest of the series. Business proposition as a cliffhanger? No, thanks.
This is a hot book, the only problem I could see was it should have been longer. Royce and Jessa's story is one of passion. She was a librarian and was very naïve in the workings been a man and woman. She was gorgeous and Royce wanted her to be his but he had to take it slow. Jessa was brought us very differently. Her parents were very conservative growing up so she is new to everything. As things heat up between the two everything starts getting very interesting. I want say anymore you have to read it yourself, I am so glad I found this author, she is amazing.
I don’t know what to expect when I picked this up. Needless to say, I was surprised. It was well written, flowed well, and had characters that were interesting to follow. I was a little wary about Royce, initially, I thought he was a predator, but despite being a criminal, he seems to have turned things around. He straight cool so far.
The kiss and sex scenes were nice. Slow and sensual. I have to admit, some of Royce’s actions can come off as predatory at times. Otherwise, this was a nice read. I recommend it.
Most of this authors “Books” are nothing more than a few chapters of tease to draw you in to purchase what is being called a series. The actual series is really small book broken into pieces. I won’t be downloading any other books from this author or any others who don’t produce a legitimate book for me to read and enjoy. Plus, I hate an unfinished story that just began to form a plot line, sort of plot line actually.
This book kept me turning the pages. I didn't want to put the book down. The way scene were described in the book really made you feel as if you were there. The two characters lust for each could be felt. I really enjoyed reading this book, can not wait to read the next book.
Jessa losing her virginity to Royce. What is there relationship? Is it more then cherry picking?
🔥Hot story for a 1st time Experience. Jesse losing her virginity to an older man. Would it be just that to Royce. Just use this young Vivacious Jessa's to take her virginity. Or was there more to this relationship than the two want to admit. Read the next chapter of their Story.
Jessa is a quiet, innocent 23 year old librarian. She has a crush on Royce, as he returned books. He had an agenda, but what?? Jessa is in her first encounter with a man enjoying the experience. Come morning something is different, what exactly??? I hate Cliffhangers!!😠
3.5 stars. A shy librarian falls for the man of her dreams, but what has she gotten herself into after a single night of pleasure? Steamy short story that leaves you hanging for the next installment.
I really liked the main character in this book and felt like I could understand her. But I felt like this book was rushed and really wanted me to have more of a story line but found it lacking. I was confused on how rushed it was and could not see why these two people were together. I need some background info and need more info period.
Royce was real charming, if not a bit weird. Jessa is inexperienced in everything. I love reading books that the heroine is so inexperienced that it drives the man wild. The ending of this book though threw me for a loop. Royce didn't have to be like he was after their encounter. Don't get me wrong their encounter was extremely hot.
She is safe in her word circled by books, until this man appears everyweek to take her of her confort zone and chsnge her life...forever! Is she prepared to give up her security and normal life?
I'm not much for books like this but it caught my attention. I is a really good book but what happens next? Who is Royce Baxter? Such a mystery and I love it.
