3.5 stars A quickie, feel-good story that includes a dash of Christmas to it (the majority of the story is not about Christmas). There’s a slick villain and a fine neighbor, with a railroad coming to town and siblings that are eager for Sigrid to sell and let them have the money the railroad is willing to pay for the property (left jointly to them at the mother’s death). The question of whether she can keep the home she loves or if she can come to grips with losing it is the main crux of the story, with a gentle romance included as well.
I’ve already read 4 Christmas novels this season and this one is definitely able to compete with the big novels in my opinion. I love, love, loved the inclusion of the Swedish recipes ahh.
Lil backstory into why I loved it so much hehe: I grew up with a Swedish-American family for about a year or two when I was younger and boy it was such a great time. Not only do they have an amazing taste for food, but they have such a beautiful way of celebrating Christmas. It is still my favorite thing ever to go to my friend’s house and walk through the decorations of the Gävle and the beautiful candles decorated with plentiful stars and wreathes. The very definition of a cozy Christmas imo <33 If you want these vibes I heavily recommend you take a lil look into this book :)
I loved the CLEAN romance, with the inclusion of a whole story in so few of pages. It was a great lil dip into a historical Swedish Christmas, with the customs of dating etc in the process as well.
Trope: -semi love triangle -childhood friends to lovers

Review: This was the first book I ever read by Tracie Peterson. It a book that made me laugh, cry and read read. I loved the Sigrid who is a spinster with the best and worst of problems to solve during the holiday season - 2 suitors. It is full of cultural details and historic details. I loved the learning about the customs and the characters were very realistic. It is a quick read filled with the spirit of Christmas and Christ.
Sweet Tracie Peterson story - very quick read. I'm partial to a sweet love story. It's always good to see the heroine recognizing the value of the right man and avoiding the danger of choosing the wrong one!
