Chicago Rebels #3

Undone By You

Rate this book
Dante Moretti has just landed his dream job: GM of the Chicago Rebels. And screw the haters who think there should be an asterisk next to his name because he’s the first out managing executive in pro hockey. He’s earned the right to be here and nothing will topple him off that perch—especially not an incredibly inconvenient attraction to his star defenseman, Cade “Alamo” Burnett.

Cade has always been careful to keep his own desires on the down low, but his hot Italian boss proves to be a temptation he can’t resist. Sure, they both have so much to lose, but no one will ever know...

As Dante and Cade’s taboo affair heats up off the ice and their relationship gets more and more intense, they’ll have to decide: is love worth risking their careers? Or is this romance destined to be forever benched?

Catch up with Cade and Dante in their bonus novella, Wrapped Up in You.

Undone By You is book #2.5 in the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader. Wow, I don’t know where to begin with this book. It’s about so much for than two people falling for each other. It’s about acceptance, love, family, commitment.

Tyler Seguin 12.23.14...oh hey, what cha doin down there? Take you time, we don't mind.

Cade “Alamo” Burnett is a defender for the Chicago Rebels, a professional hockey team. The Rebels had been in a slump for years but this year, with their three new owners, they are slowly rising in the ranks. Cade was raised in Texas by a father who believed that Texas was football, beer and pretty southern girls. Only that’s not Cade at all. Cade is gay. He’s known he was all his life. But he keeps it a secret. Only one person knows the truth and that’s his best friend, Violet. He can’t bear to inflict the truth on his Dad knowing the pain it will cause him. And of course there’s the hockey culture. How would they react? So, he keeps his true self a secret. Then one day the new general manager walked in and Cade couldn’t breathe. Standing in front of the team was the object of every one of Cade’s teenage fantasies, Dante Moretti.

Dante has gone from being a player to now a member of management. It’s his dream come true so he can’t let anything ruin that. That includes letting anyone know that he is crushing on one of the players, the players that he is in charge of. And when he finds out that the same player is also gay, it doesn’t take long for these two to find their way to each other.

two men cuddling

First of all, I loved Dante and Cade. And let me tell you, this book is ice cubes on your neck hot! But it’s also about finding the strength to let the world know who you really are. It’s about the team members you surround yourself with every day who have your back. It’s about accepting someone, no matter what. I love this team. I read the first book in this series but somehow missed book two. I definitely need to go back and read that one. I am just in love, though, with this little book. And book three will be out soon, Hooked On You, which is Violet’s story. This is a fantastic series. I hope you’ll give it a try!

READ MY REVIEW AT VANILLA & SPICE BOOKS

If you've read the previous book in the Chicago Rebels series you might have caught glimpses of Cade and Dante's strange connection. There seemed to have been something going on, chemistry, electricity and one scene toward the end of Isobel's book that looked like something akin to a fight. Now we get all the deets - UNDONE BY YOU runs parallel to SO OVER YOU.

I've always had a thing for the sharp, a little sardonic and reserved Dante Morretti, the first out and proud gay GM of a hockey team. When he runs into happy-go-lucky D-man of his team, Cade "Alamo" Burnett, at an exclusive gay club he can't believe his eyes. While Dante is still calculating the PR nightmare of an NHL player being outed as gay, Cade starts a game of seduction and Dante stands no chance in hell to resist him. As his boss, though, Dante can't, won't let his attraction get out of control.
“Honestly, Cade? You’re impossible to resist.”

I loved Cade from the first moment I met him. He is a light-hearted, laid-back Texan guy, always a joke on his lips to lighten the mood and cheer up the team. Of course, it isn't until UNDONE BY YOU that you realize that he, too, comes with baggage. He is firmly in the closet for multiple reasons and none of them have to do with cowardice. One, there is his dad, who is proud of him but being from Texas he has a rather old-fashioned opinion about what a family must look like. Two, there is still the misconception that only because you're gay you can't be masculine and thus don't belong on a testosterone-fueled hockey team that also has all sorts of homophobic characters. It's like fighting wind mills. But Cade isn't just adorable, endearing, funny and playful, he is also bold and brave and it's the combination that has Dante's hormones raging. I adore him and his connection with Violet. Their friendship is so incredibly special.
He dropped a kiss on her now purple-streaked hair, feeling incredibly blessed to know her.

Dante doesn't want to think of Cade as a potential relationship. Too many obstacles stand in their way. For one there is the fact that he is Cade's boss. Then there is the age gap. And third he promised himself never to bind himself to somebody who was still closeted. He'd given up too much to let himself be second best in somebody else's life. In his experience coming out comes with sacrifices, however, the freedom of it beats the hiding and secrecy by a long shot.

Dante was everything I expected him to be and more. He was protective of Cade, always had an open ear for him and ready with advice if asked. He also made me a little angry but there was also understanding for where he was coming from. Dante turned out to be the enigma I thought him to be. He was a contradiction of reserved, cool, collected and warm, kind, wise and vulnerable. - yes, it sounds weird and I applaud Kate Meader to transfer that through her words.

The quote below is significant - and it shows what's wrong with society. It's taken from the conversation Dante has with Cade's father.
Tucker: “Then why do it? Why upset everything just to make some statement?”
Dante: “What kind of statement am I making other than to demand that people accept I can love whomever I want? Do you think gay people are bucking society’s norms to mess with straight people’s minds?

Figures that this novella is my favorite in the series so far. I wish Ms. Meader would have written a full length novel about Cade and Dante, the material would have been there. But, we still have one more story coming up in this series and I can't wait to see more of these two. UNDONE BY YOU is a wonderful addition to the Chicago Rebels series and has it all - it's sexy and sweet, two wonderful leads and full of banter. I have no idea how Kate Meader comes up with this stuff but her brand of humor totally aligns with mine.
“This chest. These muscles. All this hair!” And then he rubbed his cheek against Dante’s pec like a fucking kitten. He drew back. “Sorry, but that’s been on my list.”

If you read MM give this a chance - it definitely can be read as a standalone and while I couldn't get enough of Dante and Cade the author did a great job of packing a satisfying story into this shorty.
"That was the bravest thing I’ve ever seen,” Dante whispered. “I’m so proud of you, polpetto.”

Cade Burnett was choosing to put himself out there, and Dante intended to reward him with the hottest experience of his life.

Sexy, emotional, and absolutely perfect! The first MM romance I've read from the uber talented Kate Meader and it was a HUGE winner!!

Dante is the GM of the Chicago Rebels hockey team. He's also ridiculously good looking, mostly grumpy and openly gay. When he runs into one of his star defenseman in a gay club, he's stunned. When the man he thought to be straight as an arrow and having a fling with one of the Chase sisters clearly propositions him, he's equally shocked and tempted. Cade is super sexy, easy going, funny, and super off limits. But as determined as Dante is to resist Cade, Cade is just as determined to seduce him. Thus begins the most delicious game of cat and mouse and back and forth.

Dante is hesitant to get involved with a closeted hockey player. He's had his heart broken in the past and he's not looking to put it all on the line again. He's put in blood, sweet and tears into his career, as well. It takes a lot for an openly gay man in the league to get the respect he deserves and Dante earned it the hard way. How can he put all of that at risk for a man that threatens everything, including his sanity. A relationship with a player is frowned upon. The fact that no one knows Cade is gay doesn't help matters.

Cade was absolute perfection. He knows what he wants and he goes after it with a singleminded intent. He doesn't shy away from a challenge and he's not afraid to push all of Dante's buttons. I loved his easy going nature. I especially loved the way these two alpha males balanced each other out with their completely different personalities.

Full of witty banter, incredible chemistry, and endearing characters, Undone By You totally owned my heart. I loved the connection between Dante and Cade. I loved the slow burn of their developing relationship. I especially loved the way that Cade handled his coming out and Dante and the rest of the team supported him. I loved all the interactions with the secondary characters. I just seriously loved this book and this story.

An m/m novella in the Chicago Rebels series about the team's buttoned up, openly gay general manager and the defenseman who is out of bounds to him in every possible way. Boss/employee. Older/younger. Out/closeted.

So many complications, all of them delicious . . .

This series just keeps getting better and better. Cade and Dante’s story has been a long time coming and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

Cade Burnett was raised to be the stereotypical Texas man from the time he was knee high to a grasshopper. That sounds cheesy but just roll with me.

”You’re Texan, son. Here we worship big tits, a vengeful God, and the almighty pigskin.”

Cade’s natural affability and light hearted personality has served him well in the past. His relationship with his father bounced back when Cade chose hockey over football, despite the fact his father continues to be a venerable college football coach. While choosing hockey over football was a big obstacle to overcome, admitting to his father he prefers men over women could be a deal breaker, and that’s a risk Cade isn’t ready to take. Still, That doesn’t stop him from lusting after his hot as hell boss.

As a former player and present GM for a professional hockey team, Dante Moretti has made hockey the most important part of his life. He knew coming out would make his dream of becoming a general manager that much more difficult, but the Chase sisters and the Chicago Rebels have finally made that dream a reality. His attraction to Cade Burnett, his best defenseman, is a distraction he doesn’t need. Still, when an encounter between the two at an exclusive club leads to the promise of some seriously hot naked time, Dante can’t say no.

“So far, it’s been me getting naked, Moretti. When do I get the pleasure of viewing all that hot Italian muscle?” He pulled at the hem of Dante’s Yankees tee.
“No suit today.”
“I don’t sleep in it, you know.”
“What do you sleep in?”
“Tonight? You.”

I’ve had a serious lady boner for this couple from the beginning. Kate Meader has done a top notch job as far as the build up for the couples in this series and Cade and Dante are no exception. That being said, I’m thinking this would work as a standalone as well.

As much as I enjoyed the hot as shit lust between Cade and Dante, their underlying vulnerabilities are what made this story for me. At twenty three and still firmly in the closet, Cade managed to be both strong and floundering at the same time and he owned all of it. No over the top, compensating for anything, professional athlete here. He accepted himself but still wasn’t sure how to introduce that part of himself to the ones he cared about.

Dante. Always in control of things, Dante. I loved how the man who thought he had it all figured out could still be brought to is knees, both literally and figuratively, by the sweetness that is Cade.

I’ve enjoyed the previous two books in this series but this one holds a special place in my heart. Dante and Cade were everything I’d hoped they’d be and that’s saying something considering I’ve been looking forward to this one for awhile.

UNDONE BY YOU might be my favourite Chicago Rebels so far. Initially I was super bummed this was going to be a novella instead of a full-length but honestly it worked so well just the way it is.

They would start with pleasure, and hopefully it would never graduate to pain.

Loved the match-up, loved the chemistry, the bit of angst, the swoons, and aaaall the familiar faces.

I love all the boundaries that are being smashed in the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader.

We have three sisters that inherited a failing hockey league. Their father daring them in his death to beat the odds of making the team a success with impossible restrictions. Something even he, a former pro hockey player couldn't do.

All sisters are proving to the masses that women can be just as good in a male dominated sport. Add in players on the team that come from diversified backgrounds who each bring a strength to the team that Harper recognized in them.

Then Kate brings us Undone By You. An m/m story of Dante, the first GM in hockey who's come out and Cade, one of the best defensive men who isn't ready to let the world know. Their relationship seems so impossible. Cade's pretending to date Violet. Dante is Cades boss.

I wasn't sure how the author was going to turn it all around in a novella no less, but she did it. For being on the lower page count, it never felt rushed. Every obstacle was addressed and conquered. We get to see Dante and Cade fall in love and be free to just be. I loved it!

Wow! I don’t read a lot of M/M generally but I’m definitely open to it. I was totally hooked on Dante and Cade’s story. I loved the plot. It took a very sensitive issue and addressed it well. I loved the characters individually but they were even better as a couple. They complimented one another in different aspects of their lives, not just intimately. Though I will say that the intimacy itself was also scorching. 🔥

”I need to know what you want.”
”You. Everything and you.”

The page space was used well though I would’ve loved a little more spent on the wrap up or an epilogue to tie things together. I liked the effective use of secondary characters, specifically Harper, Violet, and Bren to move the story line along. It definitely generated interest in what’s going to happen next.

”I want everyone to know that you’re mine and I’m yours.”

All in all an awesome addition to the series. I’m SO ready for Violet and Bren. 😍

Hot and delicious... yummm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It takes a certain type of writer to be able to write romance between two men. A talent to where it becomes a beautiful thing instead of something crass and ugly. Meader is one of those authors that I trust to read this type of romance.
This book starts with a bang and never lets up. It took me a little bit to get back into the groove of the hockey team theme since it had been several months since the last installment. Thankfully, a few chapters in and the steamy attraction development definitely got me on the right track.
It was good to revisit some favorite characters that pop in here and there in the book. However, most of the story is dedicated specifically to the two main guys.
What I like the most about Kate's writing is the general high heat steam level and emotional portion of the romantic connection. She is very detailed in the feelings department and not overly dedicated to the other sub plot that surrounds the story. I appreciate that about her. After all, my main interest is the emotional and that sexy, steaming connection between the characters, not whether they win every game or practice each day.
This book is a bit shorter than a typical Meader book but it is a satisfying follow up to the rest of the series. I can’t wait to see if she continues with the team or goes off to another story line altogether.
You can never go wrong by picking up a book by this author. While it is recommended to read the first few books in the series, you could scoot by without it. But why would you? You would be missing out on so many good reads!
Always able to make me smile, Kate Meader is a staple on my reading list so I jumped at the chance to read/review the next installment in her sizzling Chicago Rebels hockey romance series. Undone by You follows the team’s sexy, aloof and openly gay GM Dante Moretti and star defenseman Cade “Alamo” Burnett. Even though I’m don’t read m/m romance I truly enjoyed this story about friendship, love, understanding, family and having the valor to live life without regret.
At 35 years old, Dante is proud of his professional accomplishments and completely comfortable in his own skin, the challenges of his new job as the first openly gay general manager in hockey demand all his attention and don’t allow for a potentially disastrous fling with one of his employees.
Cade is a young, charming and easy going Texan who is just starting his NHL career. Knowing that his late mother was ashamed of his sexual preference and his father would also most certainly disapprove, Cade has kept his desires a secret. However having his hero and crush become his boss is too irresistible.
Meader spins a sexy web with a fantastic blend of love, understanding and yearning. As their attraction turns into a deep bond, they must overcome more than the taboo aspect of their relationship. The 12 year age gape places them in different stages of life. Dante is not only Cade’s boss, he also wants an open relationship while Cade is still struggling with himself. I found the story is at its most touching when Dante and Cade’s love drives them to find with Cade’s father the understanding Dante’s family never had.
Since they were introduced, I liked and was intrigued by both Dante and Cade and their tale not only ushered in Bren and Violet’s but also examined the close knit friendship between teammates. I really liked having Harper and Remy back and providing support to their colleagues.
Undone by You is installment #3 of the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader. It is standalone hockey romance novella. A m/m told from both points of view and has a happy ending. Other subgenres include: boss-employee and therefore on the forbidden side.
an MM novella about Dante and Cade I was really looking forward to reading this one, but unfortunately I wasn’t the biggest fan… in the end I gave it 3 stars… it feels like just the beginning of their story and I wished it was longer to really show us how their relationship formed… Cade is I think 23 and Dante is 35 and I have to say it was just on the verge for me on being too big of an age difference, especially with where each of them is in their lives… also, I hated… HATED the term of endearment Dante was using on Cade… I mean… “polpetto”? really? apparently it’s sweet in italian but it DOES NOT translate very well into english, cause it basically means “meatball” and I cannot imagine a scenario when it’s cute or sexy… like, at all… *sighs* the whole book felt like a collection of random scenes which made the pacing a bit off and their whole relationship rushed… which is a bit sad, cause I still really liked the writing style, and I just wished the story worked better for me
Heartfelt, seductive and downright fervent!
Undone by You is an engrossing, passionate, sports romance that features the closeted, fun-loving Cade, and the handsome, mature Dante as they engage in a love affair strife with issues of age disparity, impropriety, hidden sexuality, and the stigma and stereotypical mentality surrounding professional sports.
The prose is titillating and sincere. The characters are well-drawn, appealing, and genuine. And the plot is a provocative tale full of explosive attraction, unquenchable lust, sizzling chemistry, family drama, friendship, support, acceptance, hockey, and love.
I didn't think it was possible for this series to get any better but I stand corrected. Undone by You is emotional, tender, tantalizing, and absolutely dynamite and it has without a doubt left me counting down the days until the next novel in the series, Hooked on You, Violet's story is available!
Sometimes you read a book that is just so amazing that it is hard to put into words how much you love it and that is exactly how I feel about Kate Meader’s Undone By You. I will say I had my suspicions in the previous two books about Cade “Alamo” Burnett and his possible love match and I’m so pleased I was right. A bit of a May-December gay romance between a star defenseman for the Chicago Rebels and the team’s General Manager made this an exciting, intoxicating, and sexy story. I loved every minute of this book!
I do love a man on a mission and Cade Burnett did exactly what he needed to do to get Dante Moretti to not only notice him, but be aware that Cade was very much playing for the same team. The determination, the want, the need…whew, just thinking about them together makes me want to grab a fan to cool myself off.
One man out of the closet, one man in but thinking about coming out, twelve years age difference, a world of difference in experience, but attraction and a bit of hero worship have them throwing caution to the wind despite the potential risk to their careers. I loved watching them navigate their secret affair and even the time they spent apart because it helped them to see that what they had was special. I have to give Dante a lot of credit for understanding what Cade needed and making it happen for him. I also appreciated that Cade let Dante’s bit of poor judgment go so there wasn’t a bunch of unnecessary drama.
While there is no doubt this book has a fairy tale feel with everything working out pretty easily, that just made me love it more. Undone by You was a perfect title for this book because there was no doubt these two men were completely undone by each other.
“Everyone’s mileage will vary. Maybe you’ll go your whole career and keep it to yourself. Maybe you’ll have an epiphany one day and realize out is what you need. Only you will know what’s best for you, your career, and your mental health...”
I've read 1 other book by Kate and that was a few years ago so I was scared to go in because I enjoyed Playing with Fire. But it's safe to say that I loved this one, probably even more than the other one.
I loved the banter, the chemistry and the characters in this book. Dante and Cade were hot as hell together. Like fans self hot. I liked the pace they set for themselves to make this work.
The addition of a tie, vest, and jacket meant Dante was now dressed in a hot-shit suit. I repeat. Dante Moretti is dressed in a hot-shit suit.
There was a strong support system for Cade when he decided that he was ready to come out and that made me super happy. I mean it sucks that you have to 'come out' in the first place but I'm glad he had someone.
Overall this was a pretty perfect read. My first M/M read by Kate and I didn't have anything bad to this. I haven't read the other books in this series but once I read all the arc's I will probably come back to them.
MM so hot and sweet until Dante pushed Cade away at around 80% and his words were so mean, he needed to grovel. It kinda pissed me off and I almost gave this a lower score.
Heart squeezing, sexy romance…
Cue the gushing, as it’s going to continue! This hockey romance series has offered family, passion, desire and sheer humanity all the way along and Dante and Cade provide more. Their characters have been intertwined in the Chase family stories and I couldn’t wait to finally, finally, hear theirs….
“No-holds-barred, pure, unadulterated pleasure.”
Dante is the new-ish GM of the Chicago Rebels hockey team and he is helping to make this last in the standings a playoff contender. He is the first openly gay executive in the league and he does everything properly – there will be no tabloid headlines or hints of impropriety. Getting involved with a team player isn’t going to happen. Until it does… Cade is firmly in the closet, determined to keep the remainder of his family close. Admitting his sexuality would do just that so he doesn’t rock the boat. Until Dante…
Their courtship was hot and sweet, slow and fast. Their passionate side glances and intense conversations peppered secret dates and public encounters. What was between these two? I felt it. It felt real and deep, in bed and out of it. They laughed and joked but also opened up in ways they hadn’t to anyone else. Their caring, their support of each other – both personally and professionally – was easy to see and, most of all, feel. This author let me feel every nuance, every high and low, and I savoured each moment…
Swoon…
“I’m not looking for a prize. I’m looking for forever.”
There is one more story to tell and Violet and Bren’s, I think, is going to tug at my heart the most. I can’t wait! ~Diane, 5 Polpetto Stars
Welp! This is awkward. It always is when almost everyone of your friends loved the book and you didn't.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Undone by You is the third book off of Kate Meader's Chicago Rebels series. I was looking forward to this book ever since we got a hint of Dante and Cade's relationship in So Over You. I enjoyed that book and the first book as well so I was expecting to love this book. And I loved Kate Meader. Her writing style and author voice is something that I thoroughly enjoyed in the past.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Undone By You that much. This book lacked the emotional heft that's usually present in Meader's previous works. There are times when the story goes there but maybe because of the length, it immediately moves on to the next story beat without giving it a chance to simmer.
Another complaint I have is the character development or the lack of it. Again, there are some of it but the book moves so fast, it doesn't really register. One example is how Dante is supposed to be Italian so every single cliched Italian things are in this book because of course, nothing shows how Italian the characters are than cannoli and smattering your speech with tesoro. This worked for me in the previous book and I didn't mind it as much but here it's so obvious and feels more like a substitute for some real character development.
While this book was steamy and hot (Kate Meader always excels in this), the romance itself felt rushed and underdeveloped. It didn't really had time to breathe in a way. I didn't feel invested in it. And I wish we got that coming out scene. I normally look for it in my m/m book but Cade being in the closet and his relationship with his dad was part of his character arc. So it was disappointing when we only heard about it through Violet which was disappointing. I did like that scene with Bren though so I guess there is that.
Despite my less than glowing review for this book, I'm still looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Violet and Bren's relationship has been built up since book one, and I gotta tell you that my expectations are high. I just hope it won't bite me in the ass like I did this one.
Kate Meader has the right idea about writing a novella. All the elements of a full book are present in this small explosive package of words.
In Undone by You, she takes us back into the hockey element that is the Chicago Rebels' environment, were relationships between players and bosses are not necessarily unheard of. So far, two of Chase's sisters Harper and Isobel, have found their true love. Now, is the GM's chance at his own happiness.
Dante Moretti is the Chicago Rebels new GM. He used to be a professional hockey player until he was injured. He loves the game and he has fought hard for his current position. Things have not been easy for him as he's openly gay although he keeps his personal life under wraps. Yet, his attraction to one of the players of his own team is threatening his peace. Not only is Cade younger than him but also Dante is his boss, making it all kinds of unprofessional.
Cade "Alamo" Burnett is the player everyone loves. He's funny, charming and very supportive of his team. He's also still in the closet. There are reasons why he has not gone public including fearing his dad's reaction as well not wanting to make his life in the rink worse by getting purposedly hurt by the opposite teams for liking guys.
At the end of the day nothing matters except that Dante wants Cade and Cade wants Dante. As you can see this is going to be an explosive combo.
I truly enjoyed this novella! From the first page, I was pulled into their story and I was rooting for their happy ending. Yes, there were things that annoyed me. For example, Dante calling all the shots while Cade was risking so much more. Anyway, I still love both guys. Cade was sweet and his relationship with Violet made him so much sweeter to me. Also, his love and respect for his dad were there for everyone to see. Of course, having the Chase's sisters and your team backing you up was all kinds of wonderful too.
I hope Nessie and Vi have an awesome book too.
4.5/5 Fangs
I am loving this series by Kate Meader. I was delighted to find out that this third book in the series was about Cade and Dante, two characters I’ve grown very fond of over the past two books. I don’t usually go gaga over novellas. I often find them to be unsatisfying, but Kate Meader knocked it off the park.
Dante and Cade could not be more different from each other, but boy did they make a great pair. I loved the chemistry between the two, and watching them open up to each other and become close was a highlight for me. I craved even more scenes between them by the time the book ended – that was how much I couldn’t get enough of the two. They seemed like the complete opposites of each other when it came to personalities, but they fit beautifully together. Dante was the buttoned-up, openly gay, and grumpy GM of the Chicago Rebels and Cade was in-the-closet, fun-loving hockey player for the Chicago Rebels. You would think these two would have nothing in common, but they somehow bond, and a beautiful relationship develops. I loved them so much and loved watching the love blossom between the two. Not too mention, the chemistry between the two was on fire. Kate Meader really did a fantastic job at not only fleshing out their characters but also developing the romance between the two. I also thought Cade’s coming out was handled with a lot of care. I loved how loving and supportive his teammates were of him. I also loved Cade’s relationship with Violet. And I can’t wait to read her book! The girl is a riot and I love her. I can already tell her story with Bran is going to be a lot of fun.
If you are new to this series, then I urge you to give these books a try! Kate Meader is 100% winning with these books!
Undone By You is the story of a professional hockey player and closeted gay and his boss, the first openly gay general manager in the NHL. At the beginning, Cade makes it clear he's only in it for the fun and doesn't want a relationship. He's used to impress with his sexual prowess so Dante's approach to get to know him unsettle him. But the more time Cade spend with the elegant GM, the more he seem to be ready to commit. And that's when the role are reversed. Dante is getting cold feet because he doesn't want a PR nightmare on his hands. They'll get a couple of weeks together before there's trouble in paradise. Is there a chance at love for the sexy Texan and the stylish Italian?
An other great M/M romance by Kate Meader and I like that she didn't lessen the steamy scenes she always do. It was cool also that the person who hold back wasn't the one I thought it would be. This time, the author addressed the subject of how painful it can be to not be accepted by your family for who you are. It bothered me when Cade defended his mother's attitude.
Next book is the one I've been waiting for ever since we began to get a clue that Violet would be paired with "the Highlander" :p.
i bet the author could’ve found someone who actually spoke italian to check if the terms they were using were right. god knows this book needed it. polpetto doesn’t exist. it’s POLPETTA, even if it’s referring to a male. the fact that it came up so often was so irritating, but the worst of all was BORCHIA. it doesn’t mean boss and stud, and it was terrible reading it, because it means like, the decoration piece, like the studs on belts. that was painful
Loved Cade, wasn't always happy with Dante...
I don't read much M/M romance, but I love this series so it was a go.
Will there ever be a big name currently playing in one of the big four sports who 'comes out' while still actively playing? I don't know, but if he does, he better be prepared for a media onslaught.
The Good.
I’ve enjoyed the Chicago Rebels series, and Dante and Cade have been that teaser couple - you know, the one whose scenes aren’t the focal point of the story but capture your attention because you just want to know what’s happening off-page with them. I enjoyed how Ms. Meader has taken their love story and wove it into the overarching storyline of the sisters’ ownership of the team and their quest to win the Cup.
The Bad.
This suffers from two things. One, the novella’ s truncated length made certain beats of their love story pass by a little too quickly and the conflict/resolution is taken care of alot more easily than I would have preferred. Secondly, Dante’s unilateral decision-making, while in keeping with his personality, age and status in the relationship, was too convenient at the best of times and callously disrespectful of Cade’s feelings for most of it. While he said Cade had the power, Dante is the one to make all the decisions: when it started, how it went along, and when it ended. Even if there’s a grand gesture, it never actually deals with the power imbalance between Dante and Cade. It’s something that’s been pushed aside throughout this series in favor of the fantasy of falling for your boss, which I can usually roll with, but it is particularly glaring in this book.
Everything in Between.
While I struggled with the emotional beats, the sexy times were just fine. You know, if you’re into two incredibly fit men (one of which is a little furry and the other’s very sweet) having sex, then you’ll dig it.
I liked it, though I wanted to love it. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the earlier books in the series, and I am very much looking forward to the next one. If you love m/m, hockey romances, and you’ve read the series, you may enjoy this.
Dante Moretti is openly gay, and while the Chicago Rebels accept him, he keeps his private life, well,  private. While spending his Saturday evening at an invite-only private club where discretion is a requirement Dante spots the Chicago Rebels star defenseman Cade Burnett. Cade isn't openly gay, in fact, he is often seen with several ladies on his arm. The tale that unfolded was sweet, sizzling hot and touching as Cade dealt with many firsts.
I don't normally pick up M/M romances, but a few series I have read recently have diverse characters which gave way to sharing their story.  Meader gave the readers all the feels, emotions and heat while addressing homosexuality in the sporting world.
Cade was a sweetie, and it was interesting to get both his and Dante's backstories. We had a couple of emotional moments with characters from the series, and I loved how they rallied behind their teammate. Even though Dante is openly gay and seems confident, Meader shared his struggles and fears allowing him to grow in the relationship and I found it refreshing.
Undone By You was another page-turner in the Chicago Rebels series and I look forward to the next book. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
This author just doesn't click for me, and I'm making quick decisions on books. Tired of my pile up on the TBR/R so I'm all about not wasting time.
The author's characters just do not seem to do it for me. Someone's going to have to give me an excellent reason to try her books again.
Gah! This series!
And this lovely little delight of Cade and Dante. Gah! All the feels! Little snippets in the previous books just made me desperate to know exactly what was going on between the player and the boss. And Kate Meader delivered and then some in this wonderful story of a man finding the courage to be himself and another man finally taking what he wants. Damn the consequences. Gah! Just yes, yes, yes.
I'm in love. I want a Dante for myself. I want a Cade for myself. But alas...they don't swing my way :( I still offer myself as tribute!
Can't wait for the final installment in this series that has been an emotional roller coaster ride.
As the first openly gay general manager in the NHL, Dante has some ridiculously intense focus and negativity to deal with, but he does so with unflappable grace and calm. Nothing much seems to ruffle his feathers, except for an unexpected attraction to one of the team players who can’t be...or is he?
Cade decides to come clean and let Dante know he’s definitely interested and more than attracted to the sexy Italian. He’s kept his sexuality under wraps for years not wanting to rock the family boat, but something tells Cade if anyone could understand the difficulties of navigating the sports world in his position, it would be Dante.
I loved Cade and Dante! For sure, they were fantastically sizzling in the sex department, but holy smokes, compelling emotions had me sucked in from the start! From fear and uncertainty to unapologetic acceptance and support, their story had my heart sighing with so many feels!
Chicago Rebels #2.5
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Totally loving this hockey series. I can’t get enough of these sexy players. The more I read the more I want to get my hands on more. This author is quickly making the way up my favorites list.
Such a sweet and sexy romance between defenseman Cade “Alamo” and the hot and sexy Italian GM, Dante. Cade finally reveals his attraction to Dante and then has to work up the nerve to come out to his Dad. This was such an emotional and romantic story.
