I like the second book more than the first book. Here the character development flourishes and some of them are lovable. The last book ended with a tragic cliffhanger. Gaia and Raoul's family have been poisoned. Barely hanging for her life she calls for help. There is a virus which needs to be stopped.

There is a love triangle which I didn't like. I like Raoul but I like him less in this book and then there is Dominique who is interesting and enjoyable but we see very little of him.

Overall I like the writing style better then the first book, great scenarios, developed plot and there are lots of madness done. With plenty of actions and twists there is desperation in the story for the drama to come to fruition.

This addicting series will keep you hooked with it's fast paced suspense and drama!

If I'm being honest, I'm really into this series right now, way more than I expected! It has the perfect mix of drama, suspense and romance (well, this book lacked on the romance end - but I'm sure more will come).

If I'm comparing it to other works, it feels like 25% Game of Thrones (for some of it's more violent content), 25% Reign (drama and royalty) and 50% soap opera. This book specifically started out with a big bang (much like Game of Thrones with it's final episodes of their seasons) and continues the action through out. I didn't feel bored anywhere in this book, and it's hard to keep my attention!

My cons of the novel are as followed:
1. Cliffhangers - I have a strong hatred for cliffhangers, especially since we don't know when the next book is coming out. I like a book being able to stand alone at the end and be it's own entity, so the cliffhanger is more of a personal annoyance than a "con", but it fits here.

2. Not enough Raoul - This time around there was lots of Dominique, but Raoul didn't get enough "screen time". I'd love to see both boys grow in their character arcs in further novels. Additionally, Raoul was just... odd. I'll stick with odd so I don't spoil anything. Hopefully, he'll grow in the next book.

3. Carlos - I just wasn't digging him at all. His story works within the overall plot, but I'd rather of had more Dominique and Raoul time. Again, personal annoyance.

4. "Second Book Curse" - The second book curse of most series seems to be the the second book is a little more boring than the first. It's a stepping stone to the next book, so I REALLY hope we get another one that picks the series up. I loved this book, but I'm scared it will have the "Second Book Curse" where we never see the third book in the series because people didn't love the second one as much...

My pros:
1. Fast Paced - Constant movement of the plot, mixed with action and dramatic scenes.

2. Fantasy - This book seems to be picking up some more fantastical plot lines, and it fits. I like how it's expanding instead of staying the same old, same old.

3. Lovable Characters - I still love these characters - Gaia, Emily, Dominique, Raoul - and the newer characters being introduced are becoming just as lovable. They do have their flaws, but that's kind of why I like them. I hate perfect Mary Sues or plain Janes, so having these characters be flawed and unique is a nice change.

4. Change in Plot - This might be a con for some readers, but the plot has moved from Human Trafficking over to a virus. I would like to see both plot lines continued in some form, but I can settle with a change like this. It makes the books move smoother and cover more topics.

Overall, I like this series! I want it to continue and I want more! Jennifer Rayes is a great author and the more she writes, the better it will get. I'm hoping more people read this series so Jennifer Rayes can continue writing it. The books are good and I'd love to see a "House of Night" treatment with this series where it gets more books to cover more content with all of it's characters.

Five out of five stars.

Thank you Jennifer for this ARC!

This book picked right up where the first one ended. It's another one full of twist and turns, full of suspense. Gaia was stronger in this book, you can tell she is growing in her position as Queen. I think she will continue to get stronger, she is still a little to trusting. Raoul was an a@@ and really hurtful to Gaia, it will take a lot of me to like him again. He didn't have very many scenes in this book. Dominique is still my favorite. We learn more about his pass and it's heartbreaking. Emily is becoming very interesting!!! There were new characters that brought some light into the virus story. There isn't a lot of romance in these books, just one part that you could call romance happened in this story. I need more romance/sexy times :) Great job again Jennifer, I will be moving to the next one soon!!!

I received this e-book from the author, in exchange for an honest review.

I read Intricate deception a short while ago and the end was Cliffhanger.
Intricate Intention was also quick pace and easy read like the first one.

*Spoilers for those who haven't read the first book*

Gaia with the family of Raoul was poisoned with Xilinatric Bioda(XB virus), but due to some unknown reason Gaia was able to remain conscious and able to ask for help, All of them are in the hospital and partially paralyzed. Gaia decided to stay away from Delaways.
In this book, some new characters were introduced and they were equally interesting.
The focus was on Dominique and Raoul felt like a side character.

The story focus was kind of on this XB virus rather than Human trafficking.

The character development of Dominique was so intriguing, but the Gaia and Raoul's were confusing, two people who were brave enough in the first book and eager to took any decision are now acting like some teenage stubborn especially Raoul.

Carlos character is an interesting addition,  Dominique past story made him more likeable.

But it wasn't as good as the first one, and the ending was sudden, I don't see myself reading the next one.

This and the first book both were provided to me as e-books in exchange for an honest review

This was as good as the first book of the series. After the sudden and tragic end of the last book this book picks up directly from there and the pace doesn't stop throughout. While our heroes (Gaia, Raoul, Dominique) found themselves in one danger after another, we also found more and more about the villains and Jennifer you beauty what an end to this book as well. I really liked both the books and now I am waiting for the next part of the series as well. All the best for the next one and one after that.

I would suggest these books to the readers who like reading about contemporary fiction, general fiction, YA fiction, etc. but read it you must. In any case, read this or something else but Keep on Reading.

People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

Definitely waaay better than the first book. Not to mention the writing, it improved a lot.

Queen Gaia is back to bring down enemies after the tragic incident on 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. Despite being a young queen, she's doing great at her job with the help of her advisor, Jared. I like her on this one a lot, so determined and strong. Independent that I don't find myself shipping her too much with her two love interests, I'm actually fine with her being alone at the end.

Too many things happening that I'm grateful the book has multiple POVs and not just our heroine. It's rare for me since most of the books I've read only have one or two POVs. In this one, I get to see what's on the enemies' head and what's happening with the other characters.

All the bad guys in this book pisses me off, who wouldn't? The fact that Salim can enter the castle without being noticed makes me want to pull my hair, and all the times he escaped. Is he a ninja or something?

*The Author ever so kindly sent me this book in exchange for an honest review*

The second part of the series was more of telling extra bits on stuff not told in Book 1. There came new characters that played a small role in the last book. A few characters' past was discussed. The issues faced were resolved. But the story didn't proceed anywhere. I hope 3rd book in the series will do justice.

Okay, so the last book I was a bit frustrated about the way it ended. I mean, seriously, nooooo. Luckily for me, I didn't have to wait too long (2 months) before picking up book 2. Much like the first, this was fast paced. I enjoyed switching between the different characters and seeing their point of view and how they fit into this puzzle. We get to be inside some pretty twisted minds but I like knowing their back story and the desperation they feel to push them to the point where they are where they are. Gaia has matured from her experiences and she's going to be one bad a$$ Queen. I loved seeing her growth and you get the sense that she's only going to get stronger for whatever lies ahead.
There were surprises and plenty of action and twists and turns that I started to worry how Jennifer Rayes was going to tie it all up towards the end. Sadly and spoiler alert, there will be a continuation (I hope) to this madness.

I received this book along with the other two books in the series for reading and giving my honest review of them I have chosen to review them separate because... Where the first book had issues for me, this one more than made up for it. I really like the story line way better that I now know more about the characters..I still kinda wish the author went into detail more because I want to be there with her characters as they go through their journey.. but she still did an amazing job. And I already have my favorite, I'm rooting for the pirate even though the prince has his own charm. looing forward to reading the third book.

I received an electronic copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This is the second book in the series and picked up right where the first book left off which I always appreciate.

This book had just as many twists and turns as the first one and kept me engaged the entire time, wondering what would happen next. The cliffhanger ending shocked me. 😳

I love the mystery that is unfolding in this series and can’t wait to see how it all ends.

Again a brilliant book full of shocking twists and dangers. The story was so intriguing that it kept me going, and every time I had to leave the book unfinished, my mind kept wandering around the characters and story. Gaia discovered so many truths and faces life threatening dangers along with Raoul. Dominique really emerged as a hero. They both are so brave . Again ends with a cliffhanger and desperately waiting to finish the next one.

This follow up has a few more Characters to follow than the first. I am one to get confused when there are too many names going around but I managed alright.
It does really feel like a middle book, gives more background and explanation to the story and Characters but nothing major happened.
A pleasant read but I hope for a little more magic in the last book.

AN EPIC HIDDEN GEM

Quick summary:

Book 2 is far superior to Book 1, the writing is higher quality and the character development adds to the fast pace of the narrative. I finished Book 2 incredibly quickly, I just had to find out what happened after the cliffhanger at the end of Book 1! I found myself getting drawn deeper and deeper into the story, as it is tightly plotted with such strong twists they made me audibly gasp as I was reading my Kindle. I loved Book 2 and I absolutely need more from this author. I hope this ends up being a 10 book series as there is so much more content to be explored. I am obsessed.

Series review:

This series is magnetic in its intensity and is a true hidden gem. It bewilders me when I read mediocre books that have 1000s of 5 star reviews, when series like this barely have any traction. Seriously do yourself a favour and give this series a chance, it is much better than a lot of similar titles in the fantasy genre. It is a light, plot-driven fantasy with a strong heroine and a touch of clean romance that will have a series-long arc.

When I say these books are plot-driven, I mean that they are 90% plot: fast-paced, unputdownable, thrilling, addictive… and, as the title suggests, pretty damn intricate too! The author must have spent years plotting these books as the details fit together and there isn’t any filler. Each plot twist lands with full impact, they make you gasp and think back to any clues you missed that could have predicted that turn of events. There is a complex web of crimes, deceptions, loyalties, betrayals and identities with many twist and turns.

I read a lot of fantasy series and notice that authors often run out of ideas, making later books feel drawn-out and empty. It is the opposite in the case of the Intricate Deceptions series. In fact, I almost missed all the times I’d complained about a fantasy book being boring! I felt the plot in the first 3 books could easily have filled 6 or 7 books, if the narrative had unfolded at a slower pace, with a greater focus on world-building and character interactions. The fast-paced writing style is different from other books I’ve read lately but it made a refreshing change.

The characters are interesting and complicated. They don’t feel as cliched as they could have been (the Queen, the Prince, the Pirate) and they grow exponentially over the course of the books too. Yet I wanted more contact with the characters, more space carved out in the novel for them to just breathe and live. Gaia becomes a strong and intelligent heroine, which surprised me as I wasn’t her biggest fan at the start of Book 1. Also, she changes a lot through “showing” not “telling”, which is a real strength of this novel. As for my favourite character… well, all I will say is that they have their own ship.

One of my main issues is total confusion about the setting of the books; it is a mix of fantasy and modern but it isn’t illustrated clearly enough. I was under the impression nobody had phones, until some of the side characters start using them randomly, but never the main characters for some reason. I was really confused as I almost felt the author should have chosen to either include technology in full, or remove it completely.

Overall, I feel that these books need a lot more appreciation. They are wild rides filled with unexpected twists, deftly plotted and enjoyable to read. I haven’t been this addicted to a series in a long time, probably since ACOTAR, so the book hangover will be intense.

Disclaimer: the author provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After that intense cliffhanger, I was happy to jump right back into the story with it picking up right where the first one ended. This book was another suspenseful thriller, making it impossible to put down. Jennifer writes in such an eloquent way that speed reading is not a problem. Details are hardly overlooked, while storyline and characters are not exhausted or over-played. Overall, I gave this book a 4/5. Personally, I would have liked to give it a 3.5 had that been an option, because I wanted more romance (there was basically none), and less of the bad guys’ perspectives. I liked that this book used character names as chapter headings to help keep the timeline straight. However I found the plot lacklustre when the chapters were of the antagonists’ perspective, basically pausing the forward momentum of our heroine’s plot development.

While I appreciated that the story moved along at a lightning speed, I actually found myself trying to read some chapters even faster just to get to “the good stuff”. Jennifer brings in the character Carlos (mentioned in the first book) and lends him a voice and a few perspective chapters in this book. I detest him and want nothing to do with him so I found every time he had his own chapters, I just wanted to read them as fast as possible to get to the more interesting and less horrible story lines.

I also wanted more Raoul... way more Raoul. I found his character in the first book to be one of the more authentic characters and someone to trust, which in these books is hard to do! Because of a misunderstanding with the incident at the end of the first book, Gaia withdrew from him, and in turn, we as the reader were left without him in much of the story. I enjoyed the banter between him and his friends and hope to have that return in the next book.

And Gaia, she is a seriously good person and is becoming a fantastic ruler! She can save herself now, for the most part, and this book highlights that she no longer needs a man to rescue her. This book definitely gave her power and transcendence, with more victories than heartbreak, however a lot of mysteries still prevail ... like the cliffhanger of an ending. Again! I found myself both surprised and frustrated when I realized that the book was finished. I like reading Series and getting invested in characters and plot development across characters and within their communities/social circles. However, I also appreciate when those series are made up of mostly stand-alone books. This Intricate series is not that! These books could be Parts I and II of the 3 book series and possibly in the future could be published as such.

All in all, I’m obsessed with this series right now and am going to start reading the third book.... right now! Hoping for my wish list above to be answered. Fingers crossed.

I received an electronic copy of the book from the author, Jennifer Rayes, in exchange for my honest review.

Intricate Intentions starts right where Intricate Deceptions left off. Gaia and the rest of Raoul’s family have been poisoned by an unknown assailant, barely hanging on for life. When Gaia is able to gather the strength to call for help, it’s almost too late. Everyone has a long road to recovery ahead, especially the girls who were freed from the brothel. With Jared and Emily also at the hospital, Gaia has no intention of leaving Kayamato without them by her side.

I was pleasantly happy with this book. It was shorter, but felt much more impactful than the first book. The writing seemed to have improved and the overall plot progression was much smoother.

Regarding the plot, a lot was going on between the different points of view. Towards the end, they all seemed to become connected, but I felt that towards the beginning it was harder to see what exactly was going on. It made it a little confusing at times and left me hanging on some of the POVS, which almost had be skipping ahead just to see what was going to happen in the continuation of their plot. However, I stayed strong and continued with the intended flow of the story.

More characters were introduced in this book, and I felt that really helped balance some of the more bland ones. With the security detail, Dominique’s sister, Collin, and a few of the bad guys, it was the right mix of interesting and depth to the story that I felt was missing in the last book. Their actual characters developed the plot further and made the story overall more enjoyable.

Now, the love triangle. There is no way I am reading this book and trying to decide between these two men. Sorry, Raoul is trash. We hate him. Dominique is the obvious choice here. We even didn’t get to see him too much except for when he was misunderstanding Gaia and trying to figure out the poisoning case. Like??? Dominique is just more interesting and his whole plot was by far more enjoyable, his chemistry is more palpable, and he’s a better person. What more could you want? But I digress from my rant, and say that the little romance in this book was hoisted up by the deeper emotional development between Gaia and Dominique, which I was all for.

Overall, an enjoyable and fun read. The stuff with Emily was interesting... I’m not sure how I feel about the whole religious aspect of it all where the NDE fixes everything, but I’m just glad Emily is with Gaia. I can’t wait to see where this cliff hanger goes, didn’t see that coming lol.

PSA I felt this might have needed to be said somewhere in the book, but trigger warnings for those who might be upset with depicted suicide and rape should be advised.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great suspense movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

This book was brilliant, very fast paced and exciting, never a dull moment. I actually read it all in one sitting I couldn't tear myself away.

The plotline for this book was quite interesting, a toxin that can kill you in minutes, the threat of biological warfare and a cure that one man has the answers to and won't give up...ooh how the plot thickens...

I found this much more enjoyable than the first book, the plotlines where very intriguing and I liked learning a lot more about Dominique, especially since I'm rooting for him and Gaia.

This book wasn't really about the human trafficking, though Gaia is recruiting people for her team to try and bring down the cartels for good. I can't wait to see more of them, they seem really interesting and I'm hoping they have a big part in the next book.
They did bring in some more characters including Carlos and Antoine. Carlos gave me the creeps but Antoine intrigued me. He was so mysterious that he left me thinking about what his motive truly is. Is he really the bad guy? Does he just want Gaia because he bought her and he always gets what he wants? Or is there another reason? Is he the bad guy but also has a different reason for wanting Gaia??? I dont know and I liked that the author made me think about this it gave the book more depth.

This book was similar to the first in the way that it had some dark bits but the overall of the book was more YA then anything else.

There wasnt much romance in book 2, which i would normally not really like as the majority of the time if there isnt really any romance I get bored (of course if there is too much romance, that can also get boring), but I barely even noticed the lack of romance, maybe because it did read from the two love interests point of view quite a bit throughout the book which they also did in book 1 but not as much I dont think.

Speaking of the love interests, I was rooting for Dominique since book 1, and book 2 just made me love him more. Finding out his true intentions on becoming a pirate was heart wrenching and gave his character a lot more depth than before. Raoul on the other hand kind of annoyed me in this book, he seemed really petty in this book. He was angry at Gaia because she had, to his knowledge, left him without saying goodbye. It just really irritated me that instead of talking to Gaia and understanding what was going on he just got angry and wouldn't talk to her or let her apologise. I'm not saying Gaia was right in 'leaving' him but she thought she was protecting him and his family, which as we all know is the fault of every heroine in every book .

The ending was again very dramatic and had my heart racing, I cant wait to read the next installment.

I was asked by the author to read and give an honest and unbiased review on this book.

Intricate Intentions

Summary: The second book starts like this: After Gaia being abducted by Dominique to Ica her father the King of Ica being murdered by her step sister(Yes, Gaia is the Process of Ica!). Gaia is now bound to become the Queen of Ica and Salim who was promised by her late Father to be married to the Princess, kills Gaia’s step sister and their marriage arrangement gets cancelled. Wait now who is this Salim? you might wonder... Salim is the Uncle of our Prince Raoul of Kayamato(Tadaaa)

Taking charge as Queen Gaia is now unsure of whom to trust and is introduced to Jared, her Father’s trusted silent friend/advisor who now becomes her’s. Gaia decides to fulfil her promise to Emily and plans a raid in Kayamato where she finds Emily in near death condition. Hearing this Raoul invites her to his Palace and while dinner they all begin to fall down one by one.

What happened? Who did this? Will they all survive? Who is Dominique? How could someone attack the king and his family so easily? What are they planning to do next? Will Gaia overcome all this? Intricate Intentions is all about answering these questions and many more!

Review:

Disclaimer: This e-book is provided to me by the author in exchange for honest reviews. Thanks @j.rayes for sharing this book.

After finishing the book my first impression was “This is so much better than the first one in so many ways!”. The author has included some background stories to the characters, especially the background reveal of Dominique is really good. Still, I thought the characters of Gaia and Raoul could be more depth. Their characters seem to be a bit light to me, like how quick they get attracted to each other, how easily they are deceived considering their Royal upbringing, etc.

While reading this book I could see a combined image of Young Khaleesi (Breaker of Chains) in a The Princess Diaries theme which was quite amusing, if you could imagine.

Verdict: I will give a 4.3/5 for this interesting book considering how unexpecting the plot is again with a lot of twists and turns like its predecessor. This made to open the third book immediately

Recommendation: Like its predecessor #intricate_deceptions this is also a quick/light read. I’d recommend this to everyone. A must read for people who have finished the first one, trust me on this!

If you have read the book what is your thought on Dominique's background reveal?

Happy Reading Y’all!

I will preference this with saying that I was contacted by the Author Jennifer Rayes to read and review her book Intricate Intentions.

I found my self a little confused at first when I started reading the second book in the Intricate series as there where no chapters designated but character names that started each chapter. I did like seeing the POV of each of the major characters in the story as it helped you to see how every thing was playing out around the same time as other events. I did find my self at a couple of points starting to get board and wondering how long I had left. I think that was due to just a lull in the story and not much excitement happing. We were introduced to a few new characters that have become players in the story and some that will probably come to play some minor and major roles in the next book. The author gave us more background information on Dominque and how he came to a life of piracy. He deeply cares for those in his life from his loyal men, Gaia, and to his family and we see that played out all through out this book. It has helped to grow his character and makes you root for him to be able to find away back to a life that he set aside. We don't learn anything really new about Raoul but I am hoping that we will find out more about him in the next book as I feel he is hiding something and we don't quite have the whole story on him yet. I was glad to see that Emily's character has become more of a player in this book and with helping not only Gaia but also her mother during a difficult time. There are a lot of different evil plots happening in this series and it does make the story interesting and makes me think that they all have to be connected somehow in the grand scheme of things. I really like how the author ended this book as it was a great cliff hanger and with everything we have learned makes you want to yell at Gaia and hope that Jared or a guard is near by.

I'm in Full-On Binge Mode
The first book, the aptly named "Intricate Deceptions" intrigued me from the start. While the characters were pretty easy to get into and the plot was lightning-quick, it took me a few chapters to adjust to the world the author was building.

At this point, intrigue and mystery have led to absolute binge reading. I can't seem to get my head out of this world now. It seems like no one is really who or what they portray themselves to be, and heaven help a person who can't rely on their own gut instincts. Sheesh! Talk about hidden agendas. These people could be the poster children. Pretty sure I wouldn't make it in this world.

As book two continues the intricately deluded puzzle of this series, it's wonderful to see the characters flesh out even more. Especially Gaia, as she grows into her role as queen and learns to lead her people. Her bulldogged determination for justice and the protection of those who are most at risk to human traffickers makes her even more fascinating. She does not waver against perilous enemies who seek to destroy her before she takes down their empire of greed. It's especially hard to fight an enemy that doesn't reveal itself. It's even harder to fight one that hides within your very ranks.

But help comes from some unexpected sources for Gaia. Previous allies seem to be slipping to the wayside as the confusion of the near-fatal poisoning of the royal family continues to haunt them. We also discover more terrifying evil in new places; men with hearts so dark no amount of light could crack that blackness. A leader would have to have extraordinary strength to stand against these enemies. Good thing Gaia is becoming just such a person, and as people recognize her leadership and fortitude they're stepping up with her. I guess the question is whether it's too little, too late...

This second book seemed to pick up right where the last one ended. Despite the fact that the plot is building more and has some twists thrown in, I feel like I enjoyed the first book more than the second.

During this book, Gaia has started growing more into her role as Queen of Ica, and what a badass queen she is becoming. She is kind hearted, fierce, strong and is not showing any mercy to those that do wrong. In this second book, we are introduced to more character and while I don't like some such as Carlos, I do love the role Emily has grown into and love the fact that there is more of her this book.

I have decided in this book that I definitely love Dominique more than Price Raoul, could be because Raoul is being a dick and is acting like he's a teenage boy. I can't wait to see who she ends up with, seeing as how I'm sure there will be more of both character. Maybe she will end up with both? Also, is anyone else seriously creeped out over the Governor of Ayadora, dude has issues.

Although I love the story, when the heck does it take place? While there weren't any mentions of cell phones in the first book that I could remember, they all of a sudden have them in the second one. WTF?! They way thing are portrayed and how they act seems as if the story takes place forever ago, but now they have cell phones? So confusing. Despite that confusing part, I still give this book a 4 star rating seeing how I couldn't put it down for a second and just overall loved the story.

And really, another cliffhanger !?!?! Good thing I don't have to read the next book, seeing as it is already out, lucky me :)

I give Intricate Intentions (Intricate, #2) 5 stars for picking up right where Intricate Deceptions left off and introducing more characters, more suspense, more thrills and plot twists than you can imagine.

Jennifer Rayes has delivered more information to this great tale, with lots of twists and turns that I really did not see coming. Her writing is amazing and as you read you actually feel like you are directly there with the characters.

Gaia is determined to fight till the end as she is thrown blow after blow. She has now become the Queen of Ica and she plans to take matters into her own hands. The hunter becomes the hunted. As her name and actions begin to spread across the kingdoms, she sets out to wage war against the corrupt, and be the voice of the oppressed. Is her will strong enough to withstand? Or will it break?

As she gets to know Raoul and Dominique she begins to wonder what do each of these men mean to her? Feeling torn, each has claimed a part of her heart and she's confused. Where does her heart really belong? Or does it belong to either of them?

Intricate Intentions (Intricate, #2) is an action thriller novel that depicts what true sadists can do. This novel has twists and turns that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. And, as we meet more and more of the characters and try to understand where they all fit in this story, you will feel many emotions and wonder what is coming next.

I loved it and I didn't predict the twist and turns that happened. Looking forward to reading Intricate Obsessions to see what happens with all these intricate characters (Raoul, Dominique, Salim, Antoine, Carlos and many more).

Suspenseful and Intense!

Book two picks up right were book one left off. This one is just as fast-paced as book one and there are still so many surprises, twists and turns and shocking revelations that will continue to keep you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what would happen next. I was enthralled and highly entertained from beginning to the very shocking cliffhanger ending!

Gaia is now the Queen and feels it is her duty to wipeout all of the festering evil that lives and breathes in Ica. The fact that she almost dies from being poisoned makes her angrier and stronger in her convictions. She is a fierce Queen but also very kind-hearted and full of love for her family and those she wants to protect.

Also, Gaia seems to have a connection with the pirate Dominique. They have this intensity when they are together that you wonder if there is something else there and maybe he could be a possible love interest? They do have really great chemistry. Poor Raoul has become angry and depressed and I hope he snaps out of it soon to help Gaia.

In this story we are introduced to more of the evil characters. Each one is just as nasty and evil as the other. They are angry, depraved and utterly creepy characters. We also learn the back story of some of the characters and why things happen they way they did.

This addicting series will definitely keep you hooked with its fast-paced suspense and drama, plus all of the shocking twists! This story is an intense and suspenseful tale of intrigue and mystery leaving us readers in shock wondering what the hell is going to happen next.

I can’t wait for the next book!!! Highly recommend this series.

“She was warned her actions would lead to consequences, but she hadn’t expected her enemies to retaliate so quickly, or so brutally.”

Another enjoyable book in the series. This one lacked something for me, it was possibly because Raoul didn’t appear often and I’m still hoping he’ll get the girl in the triangle. In saying that there were so many good elements that have me caught up in this story. Gaia is a strong female role, going up against her royal family and the traffickers, however she grew stronger in this book. I really want to see the Governor, Carlos and Salim get their just desserts though.

We pick up with the aftermath of the palace poisonings, the survivors and their physical and psychological battles. Gaia proves to be as strong as ever, these bullies won’t deter her from eradicating drug dealers and human trafficking. She blames herself for the revenge attacks and pushes Raoul away for his own and his family’s safety.

Dominique has a mutiny on board and lightens the load on his ship. He has deviated from his persona trying to find a cure for the virus, that he hardly recognises himself. Knowing Gaia deserves someone better than him he buries his feelings for her.

Raoul’s hurt and angry that Gaia lied to him, so he discards her from his life.
Kayamato is being threatened by Salim, who has given a deadline to release the deadly virus on the island.

Carlos is merciless and brutal, he lacks a soul and dwell’s in the depravity of evil. Gaia’s buyer is not backing down, he still wants her as much as he did when he bought her. However things may finally be catching up with him.

4.5 stars - Excellent sequel, picking up where "Intricate Deceptions" left off, setting off immediately with action and intrigue. I devoured this book over the course of a night and following day, because I just didn’t want to put it down. It’s a little darker than the first book; phrases I would use to describe it: brief but grotesque, nitty gritty violence; action and adventure with increasingly high stakes; fast paced and interesting; more plot twists and turns with more character development and background, which makes all the central characters nearer and dearer.  Whereas Book #1 (also a 4.5 stars from me) had my PG-13 rating, this sequel went into an MA (Mature Adult) rating due to graphic violence. Maybe this helps: imagine Jack Sparrow x Godfather x Walter White. I could and would have read this as a pre-teen, but not all people would want their kids reading such things.

TRIGGER WARNING BELOW…

>> THIS SCENE CAN BE SKIPPED OVER WITHOUT IMPACTING THE PLOT <<

>> pages 215 and 216 <<

… Warning below, Way below

… Because if certain topics trigger the sadness, darkness, and panic inducing pain inside you, then I certainly don’t want the words to be up any higher than the end of the review.

… And as you may have guessed, I’ve had triggers before in my own life, so I try to watch out for other people who’ve been there too.

… Thus, this warning. It’s kind of a spoiler but you won’t know when it’s coming and who is involved so I feel like it’s not really a spoiler but just a warning.

HERE GOES: There is a rape/sexual assault scene. It will leave you sad and disheartened at mankind, of course. It is brief… I think a page and a half or so, pages 215 and 216. It can be glossed over or skipped entirely without impacting the plot.
