‘Something special this way comes…’ a graphic novel!

Author J.B. Lion shares that the idea for this series – THE SEVENTH SPARK of which KNIGHTS OF THE TRINITY is Volume One – originated with a game his two sons created, a game centered around three different societies as they attempt to outmaneuver one another for control of the universe. Developed over fifteen years, Lion describes it as ‘a labor of love by an ambitious fool trying to escape the drudgery of the everyday corporate grind.’ In the series, each book tells the story from a different character’s perspective. The illustrations are the work of Mike D.

The ‘experience’ (though the book is indeed a paranormal fantasy graphic novel) of immersing in the extraordinary graphics and skillful layout of Lion’s book is one that will likely be a standard for imitation. One doesn’t simply read this tale: the visuals transport the mind into an imaginative space where all seems possible BECAUSE of the fantasy. As Lion has stated, ‘The world of books is changing …As the influence of video continues to grow, more and more people become engaged with a story by its visuals. My objective as a writer is to write stories that challenge the socio-economic, spiritual, and racial barriers that have stood for centuries; to make my readers think about why they believe that they believe. In this, we gain perspective, and through perspective, we build tolerance.’

Attempting to describe what must be a one on one journey with the author in turning the vivid pages of this book, the ‘plot’ better reveals itself as the journey progresses. As the website shares, ‘Created as an immersive reading experience, THE SEVENTH SPARK invites you into a parallel universe where the physical and spiritual interact daily; every action affecting the eternal balance of good an devil. Over time, man’s ambition for power and glory has tipped the scales toward darkness. An unlikely partnership forms to plunge the 12 realms of man into chaos and bring upon their ultimate destruction. Can this powerful force be stopped, or will the seventh candle of revelation be lit?’

Written with both intensity of imagination molded by Lion’s natural gift for storytelling, this book soars into that rarefied air of refreshing originality – a chimera inviting participation from readers thirsty for alternative ways to see the world be a better more tolerant place.

The Seventh Spark: Volume One - Knights of the Trinity by J.B. Lion comes in two forms; eBook and paperback. I read the paperback version which is fully illustrated, but the eBook is text only. Three beings meet to discuss the destruction of the last two planets that are being protected by the Knights of the Trinity. Most of the knights have given up on the people they protect and spend more time on their rules and orders. When Artemus, The Protector, is killed the Knights present their own protégés to fight for the honor of replacement. Things don't go smoothly with these angels.

I found The Seventh Spark fascinating as the illustrations made this book come alive. J.B. Lion has created an amazing science fictional world with spiritual insight woven into the plot. I enjoyed the twist in the end as Michael the Archangel makes a decision that was unexpected. Overall, I think the paperback would far exceed the reading experience of this novel over the eBook. This is a great start to a series that could go in any direction.

JB Lion is credited as the creative director of this story. In case you’re curious as to why a book would need this, just open to any page. This is a well-thought-out artistic masterpiece. It contains artwork that works with the prose, and the story is developed in a creative and unique way. It’s completely formatted and developed in a way I’ve not seen before. Keep in mind I did not read the text-only version that seems to be available via ebook, but the visual paperback edition...which I highly recommend if you’re going to read this.

We open in the dead of night in the prologue. This gives us a glimpse into the story, but what’s more important is that it gives us an overview of the style to expect. I think my favorite character image is by far Reaper, an ominous and pragmatic being familiar to all of us. I was sad to see he wasn’t presented as an order member once the story started, but there is a full cast of characters in the order that really add depth to The Everlasting Order. There’s a pretty cool picture of him in the prologue and saying that its unique design is “tattoo-worthy” doesn’t do the art justice. I don’t want to give too much away, but I think one of my favorite features of this book that it has a comic book turned novel (or maybe vice versa) without any of the cheesy writing gimmicks you see in comic book writing. This book is fun, and that is something special that is hard to do in a book when the primary objective is to make it enjoyable/relatable.

Give a read, it’s a fun journey. As Gaudfrious says, “For Clandor!

First let me tell you that in order to truly enjoy this book I highly recommend getting the paperback version since this is a fantasy graphic story, the paperback gives you a better understanding of the plot. However, if you love eBooks like me you can find this on Kindle Unlimited too and experience this one of a kind story.

The Knights of the Trinity are the main focus in the entire book, I know I keep saying this but the graphic truly make this book enjoyable and completely understandable of the story, between the fiction, the amazing characters and just let me say that the end will leave you with a huge surprise!!!

Before I get into the review I thinks it's important to highlight that this is a graphic novel and the paperback version is a must see. The illustration that initially draw your eye are phenomenal and add so much to the book. The writing is equally impressive with great descriptive language. I was really blown away by this book and it's clear the author and the illustrator both have a huge amount of talent for their respective fields. A really enjoyable read, and strong messages applicable to real life. Great for escapism.

This is an intriguing tale of good versus evil with The Knights of The Trinity who are the protectors of the twelve realms. I found the writing to be very tight, with good dialogue, but the imagery was what really drew me in to the visual edition.

Plot twists and turns are plentiful amongst the chaos and excitement. Will the 12 realms come together and prevail? You’ll have to read it to find out but I’m sure like me you’ll love the ride. I found this to be a wonderfully illustrated novel by J. B Lion and as the author explains right at the beginning of the book the plot is total escapism from what, especially these days, can feel like a mundane life. I was sucked into this exciting literary and graphic world from the first page! Great plot, great characters 5 stars from me.

This was a great graphic novel! I loved the illustrations and the descriptive story. The pacing was perfect, and you’re drawn in from the first page. Good vs evil, a tale as old as time itself. This time, with a twist. An unholy alliance trying to bring about the downfall of man vs an unlikely group of misfits. Who will win in the end? And will the 12 realms of man be saved? I won’t give any spoilers, but I can say you’ll be on the edge of your seat and won’t want to put this down once you start.

Acclaimed author J.B Lion took over 15 years to create the Seventh Spark series and he got the idea from his two sons who had invented a game of a similar nature who he credits for its launch. The Seventh Spark invites you into a parallel universe where the physical and spiritual interact daily; every action affecting the eternal balance of good and evil. Over time, man’s ambition for power and glory have tipped the scales toward darkness. An unlikely partnership forms to plunge the 12 realms of man into chaos and bring upon their ultimate destruction. Can this powerful force be stopped, or will the seventh candle of revelation be lit? I was blown away by this book from the first to the last page, the characters are very well developed and the plot is fascinating. I read the ebook version of this novel, and after seeing some of the other reviews I’m interested to read the paperback version as well to see how it looks on a printed page.

The beautiful and different cover page made me purchase this beautiful book, and I am thrilled with my decision. I thoroughly enjoyed and engrossed myself in this book. I am glad I picked up this book on my weekend, as it was more of a relaxing read about a whole new fabricated world.

This book is a balanced blend of science fiction set in different eras. The beautiful illustration, font, cover page, the way of delivering dialogs—everything makes it unique but also attractive for the readers. The readers can definitely enjoy the plot and subplots around the role of knights to protect the people and their action drama. The fight between two planets makes it more interesting. I was thrilled to learn of the unexpected decision taken by Michael and Archangel at the end. The read is overall gripping, and the illustrations make it more vivid. I would definitely share this book with my kids and take them on the journey of this unique world.

“The Seventh Spark” by B. J. Lion is a uniquely formatted book. Every border is artistically drawn, and every conversation includes images of the speaking character. As the author notes in their description, it is a cross between a traditional book and a graphic novel. The concept intrigued me, and it seems like it could work with the right story and presentation.

Speaking to the presentation, I found the full-page border to be distracting, and longer narratives ran along the bottom drawing, making reading more difficult. I say more difficult because the decorative font used throughout the book also distracts from the reading. It is not conducive to blocks of text and would be best used sparingly with the illustrated conversations. It should also be noted that the ancient parchment look of the pages along with the very thin font made longer periods of reading very difficult on the eyes. This again causes shorter reading periods, opposite of Lion’s intent.

I had trouble following some of the stories presented in this sample book. The writing was overdone, like the exposition of a 1940’s serial villain. It made attentiveness wane, which is the opposite of the author’s intention with the book format. There are also pages with no illustrations save for the decorative border, which is okay as an adult, but may be disappointing to younger readers who were enjoying the pictures that went along with the story. An image every two non-conversational pages will help maintain the graphic novel feel.

I feel that this format would be best suited for younger readers, late elementary to middle grades. The format is enticing for children just moving into books with more text than full-page images. The writing would need to be simplified for that audience. I really feel, though, that younger people, especially those who like fantasy and may be getting into Dungeons and Dragons or the Lord of the Rings movies would appreciate books like these more than adults would.

In the end, I give “The Seventh Seal” two out of five stars. The narrative was difficult to follow, even for someone who reads medieval literature. The format issues noted above made reading the book for an extended time more than difficult. While I appreciate the effort involved with decorating every border, they are too distracting and took me away from the story, especially when text was too near to the border. Lion was going for a specific look and feel, but overshot the mark in this reviewer’s opinion.

Imagine sitting down with a cup of something warm, or maybe something cold with a kick, because we're about to dive into "The Seventh Spark" by J.B. Lion, a book that decided it was high time to throw paranormal fantasy, thrilling action, and a smattering of existential dread into a blender to see what would happen.
First off, you've got this epic tale that feels like it might've been what happened if Dante had a love child with a comic book artist. It's set in a world where everything's gone a bit pear-shaped because the cosmic balance between good and evil got tipped over like a toddler playing with a scale. There's a showdown that sounds like it was choreographed by the celestial beings themselves, with angels, demons, and humans all throwing their hats (and possibly swords) into the ring. According to the synopsis, it's the kind of story that makes you question everything from morality to whether you'd trust an angel with a sabertooth tiger (which, to be honest, sounds pretty awesome).
Character-wise, J.B. Lion seems to have raided the mythical pantry, throwing in a dash of everything from Norse to Sub-Saharan African legends, creating a cast that's as diverse as an intergalactic potluck. There's something comforting yet simultaneously thrilling about diving into a story with such a rich tapestry of characters, especially when they're battling it out over the fate of not just one realm, but multiple. It's like Lion decided to throw a party and invited every interesting character they could think of, which I'm totally here for.
So, would I recommend it? If you're the kind of person who likes their fantasy with a side of existential musing and doesn't mind a few typographical trolls along the way, then absolutely. Just maybe keep a notepad handy – with a story this big, you might want to keep track of who's who and what's what. And who knows? By the end, you might just find yourself pondering the bigger questions. Like, seriously, can I get a sabertooth tiger?

"The Seventh Spark: Volume One - Knights of the Trinity" by J.B. Lion is a graphic fiction novel with mythological and spiritual themes, offering a fascinating tale of good versus evil that challenges the moral and spiritual beliefs within all of us as humans. In this story, supernatural entities gather to discuss the last two planets protected by the Knights of the Trinity. Their role is to protect the realms of men from the forces of evil; however, they must also adhere to certain principles. The Reaper claims that the realm of men is about to fall and has a devious plan to ignite evil that will spread and infect life. Meanwhile, most of the knights have lost faith and confidence in the people they protect.

"The Legion" is depicted as a malevolent entity with five heads and five faces. The writer of "The Seventh Spark" creates an immersive world with horrific characters possessing supernatural powers. For example, "The Creator embedded seven stones deep into each planet's core to maintain the balance between good and evil," engaging readers to think critically about powers unknown during ancient times.

Although initially confusing, the book becomes more intriguing as one delves deeper, raising profound questions about humanity's spiritual and philosophical journey back to paradise. The death of Artemus the Protector triggers a celestial war. Artemus, a valiant knight of the Trinity and eradicator of evil, is mourned. The unity and forgiveness demonstrated by the siblings in voting for Artemus's safe passage to the heavenly realm illustrates the power of reconciliation and collaboration to achieve shared goals.

In conclusion, "The Seventh Spark" should be explored for its creativity and imaginative world, transcending religious, spiritual, and cultural boundaries. Reading it offers a unique experience unlike any other.

Unlike anything I have ever read before. I read the graphic novel version; however, there is a text-only option. I would recommend the graphic novel since it is what elevated the entire experience. The graphics help a reader really visualize it all. In fact, it reminds me of how games present stories. Not only does the book have images, but even during conversations. There will be faces along with their names while they converse. It's totally different. Not a typical comic-style book. However, there were times when the images seemed excessive, but that is a personal preference. I like it when the images are kept simple and few.

Now, to the story. As I mentioned, it reminded me of a game-style story. The author even mentions a few games and high-fantasy books/movies as his inspiration. Such as LOTR, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda. The underlying issue is about good and evil, but how it is carried out is what makes this book special. In addition, There are quite a few characters in the story, so if you find it hard to keep up with the names, the images will be there to help you! The author also includes a list of the characters at the end of the book.

I really like how the author writes a letter to the reader. We understand the pressure and effort that took place in order for J.B. Lion to publish this book. It is a goal many of us hope to achieve one day.

'The Seventh Spark' by J.B. Lion, PhD, is a fantastical, compelling read, with captivating, artistic illustrations which speak of another world beyond one's wildest imagination. From celestials in neon clothing with bloodshot eyeballs to visions of demons and devils, that had me visualising the most bizarre but amazingly creative scenes, is a book about the balance between good and evil, told in the most unique format, as it reads like a bedtime fairytale. The ancient text on the papyrus scroll adds to the fairytale effect.

An exciting plot unfolds, where the creator makes man a being with many imperfections and sends twelve mighty, angelic warriors called the Knights of Everlasting Order to assist in the balance between good and evil. You will need to read this extraordinary book to find out how the plot unfolds.

This captivating read will appeal to those who enjoy reading about supernatural beings: the creative aspect of the book ensures a well-deserved, five out of five-star rating.

A unique reading experience indeed, The Seventh Spark by J. B. Lion promises an otherworldly experience so extraordinary that fans of the genre will be left dumbfounded by the sheer brilliance Lions bestows on his readers in this uniquely written graphic novel. Besides being an amazing work of art, the novel's plot is equally as impressive, with the classic good vs evil theme at the center. Planet Thornton is at risk of being destroyed by evil beings from other parts of the galaxy. Sin has taken over and corrupted mankind, and it is up to the Guardians of the realm of man, the Knights of the Trinity, to save man from eternal destruction. The characters Lion created were both scary and fascinating; a spiritual being with five malevolent heads conjoined to its body is beyond frightening and thanks to J. B.'s unique style of writing, I was not only able to read about this awful creature but see it with my own eyes! I thoroughly enjoyed this epic novel and recommend it to fans of sci-fi and fantasy.

I was awestruck with the vivid illustrations in this book, and obviously, its stunning and unique cover page. I picked it up at first glance, and I'm really satisfied to have it on my reading shelf. I lost myself in this book and loved every minute of it. I'm glad I read this book over the weekend because it was more of a leisurely read about an entirely made-up universe.Well-balanced science fiction from several historical periods is found in this book. It is both unique and appealing to readers because of the lovely artwork, font, cover page, and dialog delivery style. The action drama, plot, and subplots centered on the duty of knights in defending the populace will undoubtedly appeal to readers. It becomes more intriguing when two planets battle each other. I was overjoyed to discover Michael and Archangel's surprising final choice. Overall, the read is compelling, and the pictures enhance its vividness. Without a doubt, I would read this book to my children and introduce them to this extraordinary world.

Author J.B. Lion drew incentive for “The Seventh Spark “ series from a game his two children made up. It centres around three different civilisations as they fight one another for control of the universe.

It’s difficult to describe the certain elements of intrigue without giving away any spoilers, but I will say that this is far more than your typical case of good versus evil sci-fi /fantasy novel. There is a lot of depth to the character arcs and I found the plot line to be really intense, intriguing, and bursting with action. This author has an immense talent for drawing the reader in and the illustrations make this as compelling a visual book as it is literary. I could absolutely see this converted to the big screen. The images made this even more of an immersive experience and I felt as though I right there at the heart of the action. The Seventh Spark was a very enjoyable read.

In the book The Seventh Spark by JB Lion it begins with three demons legion, dreadnought and Creetus discussing the 12 realms on earth that once were off-limits and thanks to one group the seventh spark has been lit and now anything goes. Although they know these 12 realms are guarded by the Knights of the Trinity for the most part they don’t fear them after all the way some of the worlds are going they will ruin their self but never count a good angel out. They have twist and surprises in this book it is well told and absolutely entertaining. I am blind and read the Kindle book and didn’t feel like I missed out on anything it was such a great read I love historical fiction especially when it’s at its best like this book. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind as I said and dictate my review.

This isn’t a book that is in a genre I would typically pick, but it caught my attention, and I am so glad it did. This book is unique in that it combines reading, graphic novel elements, and comic book elements. The book is so visually pleasing with the nice colors, the font used for the text, and seeing the characters really come to life in the illustrations. The pictures of the characters are so well done. It is amazing what you can tell about the characters by looking at their facial expressions, their outfits, and their coloring; all of which make the stories even more intriguing. The human ones look so realistic such as Armin the Wise, the picture of him almost looks like a portrait painting. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book!

"The Seventh Spark" by J.B. Lion, was a compelling and engaging fantasy novel that explores the aftermath of a cosmic “good versus evil” battle.
The author introduces us to a world where an unlikely alliance of fugitives from various different dimensions are conspiring to destroy the realms of man, however a sworn brotherhood comes together in the hopes of thwarting their efforts and restoring peace.
A well thought out concept with a great storyline to go with it. The characters are engaging, diverse and very likable. The book is fast paced and gets you hooked and engaged very quickly. Impossible to put down. I read it cover to cover and can’t wait for the next one!

story 3.5

This visual novel come in two forms. I think I bought the wrong one. I couldn't adjust the text size and had to zoom in on each page, then zoom out to "flip" the page. My friend Matt's arugment for paperback seems much clearer now. This version should not be allowed on mobile devices; it sucks.

The story starts slow with pompous characters and florid language. The story definitely gets more interesting and ultimately ends similar to an Avengers movie. There is too little character development, too frustrating a reading experience. Try the paperback or not at all.

It is a fascinating mix of sci-fi and spiritual adventure. The book tells the story of three beings who meet to talk about planets protected by the Knights of the Trinity. As problems arise and protectors are lost, the knights clash with their students, leading to surprising twists.

What makes the book special is its amazing pictures and creative world. J.B. Lion combines sci-fi with spiritual ideas, making a story that makes you think and keeps you interested. I especially liked the surprise decision made by Michael the Archangel at the end.
