Hello kind reader, hopeful fan or general random passer-by,

Whomever you are, however you came to read this page, welcome. My name for our intents is Asrai Devin. An Asrai is a water fae, who if captured or touched by sunlight turns to water.

I am a writer with a big imagination and little patience for the mundane. As I write this I am still feeling defensive about a "discussion" my husband and I had about my lack of organizational skills and if I should "try harder." I'm trying to take the high road.

My other faults are a slight video game addiction, a propensity to love too much and too wide, inability to spell certain words (partly because I type too fast and partly because it's not that important), and slight Asperger-like behaviours. (If you ever meet me, don't expect any eye contact, I can't get the hang of it).

I'm a loud-mouthed introvert with an (tiny) obsession for the Dragon Age series, Storage Wars, and setting people straight on Yahoo Answers.

I have two children, one school age and one tantrum-prone age. I am married and I used to be an educational assistant, a job I miss dearly, but hope not to return to (this writing thing will work out I swear it). I love yarn and fabric and the idea of turning something discarded into something useful or making things from scratch. My project ADD keeps me from actually following through.

I had more to say, but I got distracted by something shiny and exciting. Also, talking about yourself too much is bad for you. Drop me a line and tell me about yourself. You could be my new shiny thing for the day!

I got Second Chance Romance as a freebie from Amazon - apparently they price-matched another retailer. I enjoyed the story of Kip and Mandy, and their second chance at happiness. I almost didn't finish reading the book, though, honestly.

Why? Because of the grammar / lack of editing / lack of proof-reading / call it what you will. There were several to / too errors, missing letters, missing words, punctuation all over the place. Several is an understatement - there were errors at every location of the book. The dialog was very stilted, as well. Some of the errors I just didn't understand, because I don't see how they made it out the door had the author done even a second read of her work before publishing. Truly.

I almost gave the book one star. I didn't because it is my belief that one-star implies that a book had no redeemable qualities. So that put it at two stars again. Then I got to the end of the book and read this note from the author: "This book is written with Canadian spelling and average grammar skills. If you notice anything horrible feel free to email me. ______@______.com with the problems an I'll edit and update the book." That irritated me enough, because of the implication that she KNEW the work was poor on a technical level but didn't care enough to fix it, that I nearly gave it one star again. I finally decided on two, because, as I said, the story was a good one.

I would HIGHLY recommend sampling this before downloading, even though it's free.

Note: Two stars was my rating on Amazon. I'm giving it one star here, because a two-star here is "It was okay." It was not okay. Anyway, we can yak about my disagreement with GR's rating system later :-)

I got this Kindle book free via Amazon and before I started reading it, I read the reviews for Kindle first and I thought they were harsh. I went into it with an open mind, but I could *not* get into it and eventually didn't finish it.

First of all, the grammatical errors are overwhelming. There is a comment on Kindle about how the book has now been edited, but it's apparently by the worst editor ever as I found an error at least every other page. Typos, words in sentences that didn't belong, double words, wrong words, unfinished sentences that just stop - the list keeps going. Sometimes I had to re-read a sentence that didn't make any sense, a few times and actually replace a word in the sentence for it to make any sense. How does that happen? How does no one catch that?

Secondly, I found the writing to be pretty sub par. It was hard for me to know whether we were flashing back or in the present. I often had to go back multiple pages to find out who was even talking at that point (Kip or Mandy). A review on Kindle said something along the lines of "Did a sixth grader write this?" and looking back, I have to agree. The writing was not great. Not what you would expect from an adult.

My very first issue with this book came in the 1994 section where Kip read Mandy's paper on why she wanted to be a teacher and was "overwhelmed" by it. The paper was just bad. Supposedly a high school student wrote it, but I didn't see it. My English teachers never would have allowed something like that. It was way too short and badly written.

Lastly, the book was too slow. There was a lot of back and forth via Facebook and eventually I just gave up. Oh, and Kip carrying that box of momentos around with him for eleven years? Pretty pathetic.

Great story about how different people think about life.He was in to hockey, she was going to be a teacher.

They fell in love, but he went away for hockey she stayed there to become a teacher. But they don't know that he still cares for her and she still for him. Neither of them had married, and he gets traded. He asks to be friends on Facebook. She said she would have dinner with him and catch up after eleven years. She has a son but not with the father any more. The two of them still have feelings for her other and she doesn't know if he will be traded to a team or be able to stay.He wants to be there. He has to work hard to get the team to keep him. Thanks for a great read, not going to tell how it ends😉

This was a great escape over Christmas. As a sucker for romance and especially second chances I found this free download and I am really glad I read it.

The story starts in 1994 when we meet Kip Turner. Maths totally bored Kip but he needed to get a pass in maths or his parents would not let him pursue his love of sport. After requesting "pass out" to the toilet his eye is caught by uninspired, regurgitated essay's stuck on the English notice board, but one catches his eye. "My Future Plans" by Mandy Green. How could one high school student have so much conviction, singularly focused on her goal of becoming a teacher, her greatest wish to inspire others. Mandy Green became his heroine in that moment.

What Kip did not realize his new found heroine was in his class but Kips idea of a tall beautiful girl was quashed when he saw Mandy. She was tall, overweight and very shy but Kip sees her beauty and falls deeply in love with Mandy but like most young love fate plays the cards in their chosen career paths and despite their love for each other, they go their separate ways.

The story skips to 2006. 11 years have passed but Kip comes back into Mandy's life. He is now a hockey star, fit and handsome and Mandy does not think that he would look at her again but this is where the story dug straight into my heart.

I enjoyed Asrai Devin's writing. It was simple, good and said what it was supposed to say. A sweet romance and a belief that there is such a thing as a second chance.

Okay this one is not perfect. There are various grammar and other typos that even I can point out with my sorry editing skills but come on it's a free book what do you want from her?. However, this had to to be one of the sweetest stories. Kip was the perfect guy who never got over his first love. Mandy on the otherhand was once again the typical insecure annoying female determined to push him away. The difference between Devin and other writers with this type of bitchy character is that she knew when enough was enough and stopped playing games. In the end you couldn't help but like Mandy just a smidge. This one is so worth reading if you just need to kill some time it's surprisingly good.

I think this is one of my new favorites. The woman in the story doesn't have the perfect body (not that that matters) but in most books it seems to appear that way. Anyways she was the nerdy girl with no friends and the popular jock fell in love with her. I also loved the way it was told from each person. It is nice to know what each one is thinking about the other. Not just a one sided story. I liked this book so much that I am looking into others from this series.

you cant really say there was anything awful about this book but if you take out the scenes of rampant sex there are probably less than a hundred pages of attempted story telling. I could have cared less about the characters but it is difficult to know how. At least it didn't require thinking to read it

Nice to read about a character who isn't model sized and drop dead gorgeous win the drop dead gorgeous man. Some grammar and mispelling...but an ok read.

Terrible - really really awful. The grammar and spelling errors alone did it in.

This book was rounded up generously to 2 stars, because Goodreads doesn't really have anything between "didn't like it" and "it was OK". Which is really where this one should fall. I guess "Meh?" I liked it enough to finish it, but I'm not particularly interested in reading the rest of the series, as most of the issues I had with this book were with the writing, rather than the characters.

The H and h were fairly likeable, though sometimes the devotion and perfect-relationship-ness that they had going was a little hard to believe after the oft repeated 11 year gap. Still, was glad that they finally talked about the future (which was really their only hurdle) and got their HEA.

Now we come to the writing...

Was this her first book?? Because it certainly felt like it. There were flashback scenes where it was hard to tell that the time shift had happened. I was just left rereading the page wondering WTF was going on and trying to figure it out. Happened more than once too! Things were very told-not-shown, very simplistic writing in a lot of ways.

Plus, absolutely no editing or proofreading. Mistakes on almost every page. Comma splices all over the freaking place (if they are two complete sentences, use a period and not a comma!!). And a lot of these mistakes would have been caught with even basic spellcheck - sh instead of she, for example. Repeated words. Double verbs in a sentences (like the sentence was missing a preposition, or she had changed her mind about how the sentence was going to go but didn't delete the first word choice). Even a friend reading through the manuscript before publishing would have caught a large number of these. All the mistakes made it feel incredibly amateurish, and repeatedly pulled me out of the story.

It was a free Kindle find, a quick read, and didn't feel like screaming at the characters all too much. Still, am glad I didn't pay money for it, because it was really the author I wanted to fuss at!

Funny, interesting, realistic

First book I read from this author. I found this to be an interesting story with realistic issues as the problem. I loved the author sense of humour. The characters are so teal along with scenes it feels as if your right there with them. Great job, some sensual scenes, well written.

Meh, the story was sweet but the writing was not great. “I will take a shower and then make breakfast”, who talks like that? I would have enjoyed more of the Hockey story and interactions with some of the players. I am not
Really compelled to read the next in the series.

Most people only get one chance at love. Lip Turned and Mandy Green get a second chance . Will they make better choices this time of Will they make the same mistake again. This fisheries more at stake.

I think the storyline is a good one. The characters are well developed. There is a warning that the sexual content in the book may not be for everyone.
12 years ago Kip Turner let the girl of his dreams go to pursue his dream of playing hockey. Kip and Mandy were opposites in high school. He was popular and good looking. She was unathletic and shy. Despite their differences they fall in love. A year after high school, Kip is drafted into the NHL. He’s going to a play across the country. Mandy is pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher and she refuses to go with him while insisting that Kip follow his own dream. Kip goes to follow his dream and they break off their relationship. 12 years later ... They come into contact again. Mandy is a single mother and Kip has been playing hockey. But fate has moved them to neighboring Albertan cities. Could they renew their old relationship and have a successful end? Or is Mandy going to let him go all over again?

Facebook has a lot to answer for!

I enjoyed this book - it was light hearted and easy to read. Pretty much an 'in between' book. A book you read when you need a break from your ever increasing TBR pile!

The premise of this book is very similar to some of the others in this genre. It is generally about a boy and girl from the past, they are no longer together. Girl has a baby (not his) and then after some Facebook stalking boy find girl, girl response and a relationship builds from there. The idea is far from original. It has been written many times before. I suppose the formula works. I didn't hate it, far from it. I enjoyed the banter and relationships of the characters. Unfortunately, the characters didn't stay with me once I finished the book. They didn't touch my heart and they didn't make me think about them long after I finished the book.

A lighthearted read for the lazy day.

synopsis:
kip and mandy met in high school. kip noticed mandy when he read a "what i want to be when i grow up" report by mandy. after that, they become friends, and then fall in love. they even move in together when they go to college. then kip has an opportunity to play in the nhl, and mandy wants to finish her schooling to become the teacher that she has always dreamed of being. 12 years later, they connect again, and discover that they are both living in alberta, mere hours from each other.

what i liked: the premise. mandy stood up for what she believed in and didn't back down from her dreams.

what i didn't like: i don't know why this book didn't work for me. i like second chances, i like hockey, i like geeks...everything should have clicked. however, it didn't. i found myself not really caring about their ups and downs.

It took a few pages to get into the flow of this one, but surprisingly it proved really quite good .... even eliciting a few tears at the end.

The "hero" for the want of a better word, Kip, annoyed me a bit sometimes with his gently gently approach - I did think a couple of times "man up", but then again maybe that is why the lovely Mandy loved him so, setting aside his killer body and bucket loads of money that he made as a NHL player!

A few typographical and grammar errors, but then again it is rare to get a clean copy of anything these days, and they definitely didn't detract from the overall storyline.

A freebie for me, which I was really quite pleased with, and am looking forward to finding other offerings by this new author to me.

All things considered a 3.5 star read for the blog, but better than being downgraded on Amazon or Good Reads, so I've rounded up to 4.

Frankly, grammar errors here and there. Also, I hadn't much liked this particular storyboard to begin with. Something about high school sweethearts concept just has a natural way of disagreeing with me. This concept, rash decisions and maturity completely undeveloped which to determine whether truly "loving" another human being.

Critiquing this particular ebook: Second Chance Romance from another's impersonal view point. This ebook engaged charm in history lovers from get go. Not being able to keep hands from one another. Ending deserves a three star rating. My gut couldn't get enough of this shivering yet perfect ending. Marriage, no more long term distance for these high school sweethearts! Finally.

I got this book as a freebie on Amazon.com so I thought, why not try it? The cover looks kind of silly but I guess you don't need to spend much time on a cover if you're book is only available as an ebook. The thing I don't understand about this book, is why it has so many spelling errors and missing words, or words in places where they shouldn't be. It makes me wonder if she let anyone proofread it before it got published. For me, it was kind of distracting and I think it's one of the reasons this book didn't grab me. I couldn't really feel the chemistry between Sydney and Kip. Too bad, because it could have been a really good story.

Completely forgettable. It had the potential to be a really good story, but missed the bar. The grammar was awful, sentences were cut off in mid-thought, spelling errors on one too many pages for me to keep from wanting to scream.
Plot was cute, but I wanted so much more. It seemed like this could be just any two people doing day to day stuff. Nothing stood out.
It wasn't quite "smut" or "erotica" but it seemed like it wanted to be. Threw the story off with the random and not quite finished sex scenes. Drop the smut, use spell check, develop the characters and add more personality and this would be a great book.

I downloaded this free from Amazon, and even after reading some bad reviews I thought I would give the book a chance.

The story itself was not bad, but this book had so many problems with typos and incomplete sentences that there were times when it was hard to understand what the sentence meant.

It would be really nice if the author would go back and work on the book, fixing the many errors that plagued an otherwise good story. I enjoyed the story enough to finish the books, but without improvement from the author, I probably would not go back to reread the book; and I do love rereading books I enjoyed.

This was an average book but nothing special. This book was kind of boring to tell you the truth. The story plots were lame. Most of the time the story could have been fixed if they just asked each other, "Where is this relationship going?" Instead they skirted around the issue for more than 75% of the book because they were afraid of what the other was going to say. That made the story drag a lot. I expected a lot more from the sex scenes but again those were lacking as well. Not a lot happened in this book, and I was hoping for a lot more from this story. This book was a nice read if you have nothing else to read. But I have to warn you that this was just an ok story.
