The last book's events left Mo Ran and Chu Wanning in the cave on Dragon Blood Mountain after the effects of the incense burner. We now see Mo Ran waking up to Hua Binan taking Chu Wanning away, and thanks to his now depleted spiritual energy, Mo Ran is unable to do anything to stop him.
From there, we watch as the book branches off into two stories as Chu Wanning is trying to reconcile the memories of his past life with those of his current one, and Mo Ran travels back to Sisheng Peak to face the consequences of actions he was and was not responsible for.
Meatbun puts these two through the ringer in this book by having both men relive the horrors of their pasts. We get to learn just who Hua Binan truly is as well as more about Mo Ran's real identity that was revealed in the lat book, and more about Chu Wanning's time with Taxian-Jun.
My emotions barely stayed from anger or sadness, but this was done so well, I have no regrets about reading this. It was a perfect continuation from where the story left off, and I'm beyond excited to see what happens in the next one. ...more
Words cannot describe how much I loved this book!!!

An Ying, Yu Chen, and Hao Yang are phenomenal characters who drove this story from page one! Their trauma, mystery, power, and connections to one another jumped off the page.
As the story unfolds, we see An Ying trying to save her mother's life by joining a competition to attain the pill of immortality that can heal a broken soul. Along the way, she is guided by the mysterious Guardian in the Jade and the mysterious Yu Chen, who seems to have more power than a typical mortal.
With people hunting her, it is up to these two to keep her safe and help her win the competition, but as things unfold, everyone is not as they seem.
This is another perfect introduction to cultivation novels written by Amelie, and I can't wait to hear about the sequel! The magic is easy to follow, the story is rich with Chinese mythology, and the characters stay true to who they are at all times.
I sincerely hope that more people will pick this up because it is such an amazing journey to be part of!...more

He Yu and Xie Qingcheng are stuck and about to die when the older man admits that he is the First Emperor, the first person to take the full RN-13 dose that causes Psychological Ebola. Thanks to this, He Yu doesn't feel alone anymore. Just as they are about to drown, they are found and taken to the hospital.
As the story progresses, we see He Yu's possessiveness ramp up tenfold as he tries to find a companion in Xie Qingcheng. But the older man doesn't seem to want anything to do with him despite the draw they have to one another, as seen by the way Xie Qingcheng takes the lead in bed for the first time instead of just lying there and taking it.
But if trekking through their emotional constipation isn't hard enough, they have to deal with Xie Qingcheng's ex-wife, Xie Xue's new illness, and all of the people trying to kill/use them. It's a nightmare for both of them.
Overall, this was a great read. I'm so excited to see where the next volume takes us!...more

The story of Kris and Loch was full of twists and turns as this time around we spend our time in Ireland for St. Patrick's Day where Kris has to figure out who is stealing Christmas's Joy.
At the heart of it is the bad boy St. Patrick's Day Prince, Lochlan Patrick who just happens to have caught Kris's attention in all the worst (best) ways. As Kris investigates the magic theft he learns more and more about Loch and his family which resonates with his own experiences. Learning more and more about the truth starts proving to be tricky for Kris's heart. He wants so much for Loch not to be guilty, but not everything is as it seems. And in the end, just maybe they'll achieve their happily ever after.
I had so much fun reading this book! It made me laugh and cry while exploring some of my favorite tropes like enemies to lovers, miscommunication and found family. Overall, it stayed true to the themes and the plot was easy to follow, which made it the perfect short read after a heavy book I read.
If you get the chance please go pick this up when it comes out on March 11th! You Won't be disappointed!...more
