This worlawwww i love this series and it made me so happy to get this as a late christmas present, I literally opened it then read it in one sitting. This world was so great to return to, but I really should have done a series reread before diving in. But I immediately was reminded of how much I LOVE the art and the world in this book. But the plot in this one seemed to go by so much quicker than the previous volumes. Everything kind of unfolded conveniently and since I didn't remember much from the earlier books in the series, I was just left to roll with the punches. There were a few things in here that I feel were supposed to evoke emotion from the reader, but it was so rushed that the reader was not provided a lot of time or capacity to mourn or comprehend anything that happens to the characters. Maybe I shouldn't have read this in one sitting and it would have gone over better, but this was a very interesting take on a conclusion to a sci-fi series that I adored altogether and i'll definitely be getting my hands on to reread in the future! I highly recommend this series if you're just starting out reading graphic novels....more

It's almost too deep for a children's book. Even though it's about talking animals and Ivan's complexity of thought could be a little misleading, this book touches on so many great themes both superficial toward children, but also in general about humanity, if you're mature enough to understand it. This book was cute, sad, and something very new to me. I adored it and it is such a fast read that I highly recommend it!...more

It seems like these graphic novels really focus on the political conflicts rather than the characters and relationships, which is sorta upsetting because I really, really loved Jem in this book and that aspect of it got a bit lost with this translation. Nevertheless, the art in here is so stunning and this trilogy is so well-done that I had to give it the credit it deserves, just as a well-concocted storyline....more

There was NOTHING about it that I enjoyed. The main character was a bitch, the entire book's premise was unrealistic and disgusting, the romance was dry, rushed, and unrealistic, there was slut shaming, etc. NOTHING in this book made sense. I am appalled someone read this and went "!!!! wow!!!!! let's publish this!!!!!" the storyline was so predictable and cheesy and the relationship was SO gross and toxic, and the entire construction of this book was a trainwreck. WOW I hated it. I can't believe I made myself finish it....more

This book was both tragic and uplifting, and it made me feel a range of emotions, frustrated to touched. However, I felt really disconnected from the setting. I was really interested in reading about Afghanistan, but I never felt immersed in that world. At times it seemed unrealistic, which was strange because I've never experienced the culture there, so I have nothing to judge it on. Because much of the story is political, I also was a bit bored at times. The audiobook I was listening to was considerably shorter than the physical novel I have on hand (I suppose I may have accidentally bought an abridged version or something), which was frustrating. I think this book's moral could resonate with a lot of people and the story itself is very unique (even though occasionally hard to understand because of the unfamiliar and under-explained setting)....more

I began this book with an open mind after not liking TDM. I was going into it blindly because the synopsis was so vague and confusing, and reading this for the first several chapters, I just noted that there's absolutely no hook. From the description to the beginning of this book, everything was totally uninteresting, I had no idea what I was going into, and I was bored with the idea because I didn't understand it. For the first 150 pages I was waiting and waiting for something to happen. By the time it did happen, everything was NOT explained well and I was now both confused, bored, and exasperated. This entire premise needed to be explained better, and between being completely bored, mostly annoyed with the generic premise, and partially confused at the action, I ended up skimming the last half of this book. This might stem partially from the fact that i'm not a fan of historical fiction, but I just hate Alexandra Bracken's writing. This book could have been half the size it actually is, which is nearly 500 pages. There's so much FLUFF in her writing. SO many rhetorical questions and other inner monologue that is completely unnecessary and just drags the pace of the book down, so much so that I did what I told myself I wouldn't do (and did for TDM series)-- skimmed all the pages for dialogue.
I can see how other people could enjoy this, but Bracken's books just aren't for me. I almost wish I hadn't wasted the time....more

I'm veeerrryyy torn about this book... My biggest advice would probably be, don't look into this book unless you reeeally like Tyler Oakley. The writing in this book makes it seem like he's narrating this to a 12 year-old who's obsessed with him. It's not necessarily condescending, but he narrates his life very . . . I don't even know. Entitled. Along with that, the writing itself isn't the absolute best, and many times is a bit corny. He writes exactly how he speaks in his videos-- slang and puns and all-- and I can't help but think that this book would have been a more entertaining video than it was a book. The main reasons I bought this are because 1) I do think Tyler is a charming and silly person, and I wanted to support him, and 2) He kept selling this book as "stories i've never spoken about before," and that really intrigued me. I will say that this book revealed a lot about Tyler that I would have never guessed (such as his real first name isn't even Tyler, but you'll have to read the book to find that out), so it delivered what I expected. Even so, I can't help but feeling like this book just seemed like such Entitlement. The only reason it exists is because he's famous. If Tyler Oakley was some random person on the street, he wouldn't narrate a book like this or be able to sell millions of copies without a fanbase. Without his fame, this book would be completely irrelevant and probably boring. So that's why I'd only recommend this to people who are Tyler fans, and within that group of people, only those who are younger, since his writing is a bit lame and tailored toward younger people. (An afterthought: that's actually a weird way for me to promote this book because it was actually quite inappropriate at times, too. I guess just look up the first chapter of this on Amazon preview and decide for yourself how the narration sits with you.)
This was the first book I've picked up from a big Youtuber, and I don't expect i'll buy one again unless, again, it's a person that I REALLY support. ...more

I bought this just because it sounded interesting, and it made me remember why I stopped doing that. The synopsis was better than the book. There were so many characters with different names that it got confusing, the format was discombobulated, it was pretty hard to understand and in general I just didn't understand the cohesiveness or significance of any of the events. I was glad it was short, and even more glad that I was able to finish it quickly. I wouldn't recommend this one unless you could read it in the original language, because I think it would flow better when it's not awkwardly translated....more

I really have no problems with the characters or writing or plot, but at the same time, it isn't the absolutely coolest and best thing i've read. It's fast and unique and the writing is cool, but I don't necessarily find myself connected to the story or the people. It's fun to read when you're doing it, but I wouldn't consider this series one of my favorites. It's very hard to describe my feelings for this book because right now i'm just feelin meh about it. I jumped into this blindly because it's been so long since Stephanie Meyer has done ANYTHING (seriously) and although at first I was skeptical, I had to admit, I missed her writing, so I picked this up from target today. At home, I sat down to skim through the first few chapters, and then realized on page one my mistake of buying it without looking into it.
It's the same exact fucking book as Twilight, word for word in most places. I know that some things are changed, like apparently the ending is different, but this is bullshit. You can't just change the pronouns of all the characters in a book and then rerelease it. Whoever decided that this was a good idea is insane. I can't believe it. Meyer specifically said in the author's note that she didn't have enough time to finish midnight sun so she did this instead. I think it's utter bullshit, because anyone can take their book and republish it giving the characters different names. There's absolutely no creativity, no work being done except pressing Ctrl+F and swapping out a few pronouns.
I am severely disappointed. All this just to prove a point that Bella isn't some damsel in distress. ...more

So yeah. I was spoiled. BADLY. I basically went into this knowing what it's about and the reasoning behind that. The entire book I wasn't excited or feeling the suspense/confusion because I knew. It was super frustrating and made the entire reading experience suck. The writing could be a tad boring sometimes because I wasn't a fan of the way it was told, through flashbacks to her childhood. It was very choppy between past and present to me, and sometimes the transition between the two left me confused. I would say, if you're a fan of Brave New World, you would like this. ...more

this book was exhausting and knowing that all the other books are bigger terrifies me but the writing and world building in this book is so vivid and even though I chose favorite characters quickly, the ones that I thought less interesting still had very important story lines and every character has a distinct, well-written personality. Basically I am in love with Daenerys, and I also adore Jon and Arya and Sansa, and even Tyrion. Reading this makes me super interested in the TV show and i've heard so many people telling me to watch it that as soon as I have the time (which might not be for a while lol) I will definitely be looking into that! At this point i'm too exhausted to even consider reading the sequels; i'm giving myself a break after reading this hahaha. geez louise it's a commitment, but it was worth it.

eustace is a fun main character and i love that this book returns to a mission style story rather than defeating evil, but then there's also some defeating evil thrown in at the end!! very cool plot and an interesting villain, i just wish the second half of this book wasn't set underground because i found the pace and vibrance of narnia got so dulled.
