The town seems obsessed with A modern day reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, about teen Isabel Crane who moves to the town of Sleepy Hollow. The town seems obsessed with the Headless Horseman, and at first Izzy is skeptical and doesn’t want to join in. But when she develops a crush on Vicky Va Tassel, a curse is revealed and Izzy must help save Vicky.
I thought this was such a cute take on the Sleepy Hollow story, with teens teaming up with the horseman to help save one of their own. All the characters were fun and unique, and the little romances sprinkled throughout were a delight. At times the plot waned, but came together at the end. And the artwork is immaculate!...more
I absolutely adore the Enola Holmes films on Netflix, so I jumped at the chance to read a graphic novel “sequel” to the first film. In this 4 stars!
I absolutely adore the Enola Holmes films on Netflix, so I jumped at the chance to read a graphic novel “sequel” to the first film. In this book, Enola must save her brother Mycroft after he is kidnapped by a group of radicals.

Teenage witch Emsy’s world is thrown askew when her parents abruptly move her from the west coast to upstate New York. There they rejoin with their coven of witches, of which three members were recently killed and Emsy’s parents are there to protect the coven and figure out what happened.
This one started out strong and then fizzled out quickly. The storyline went all over the place and it felt very rushed; this book could have a series instead of a standalone (and I rarely say that). I really liked the characters and their dynamics, only for some plot points introduced to be shoved aside in the last fourth of the book. I loved the artwork in this though, I thought it was brilliant and would love to see more by this illustrator....more

Ducks is the autobiographical account of Kate Beaton who worked in the oil sands in Canada to pay off her student loans. There she encounters a harsh reality of unsafe working conditions and trauma that went largely ignored by everyone who worked there.
I have to say, this book wasn’t even on my radar until it was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award, and then I saw a few reviews from friends praising it. I never even knew about this area of Canada and the kind of work people did there. I thought this book was a very insightful look at an industry not a lot of people know about, but many workers there face many dangers and sacrifice a lot to be there to make money.
I’m really glad I read this story, and I am even more glad that Beaton wrote it. I think Ducks will someday become a classic in the graphic novel genre, I really do....more
