Time travel is so tricky, and I didn't have a lot of faith in Remender to start with if I'm being honest, so the fact that this ended in a way that didn't piss me off took me by complete surprise. Remender will probably never be my jam, as I find his stuff mostly a maudlin look at life, but he pulled it off this time for me. I didn't hate it.
This was a story of that guy. He's tough and he never gives up, no matter what life throws at him. He doesn't like people and people don't like him. But he does the right thing anyway. Mostly. And he's got an alcohol addiction, but he pushes through. Because you can't stop him. He's a cowboy. IN SPACE! And let's face it, who doesn't want to read a story about that guy?
There's actually quite a bit of depth here, as Remender uses every trick in the book to show how Heath is a product not just of nature, but of nurture. With the use of time travel, cloning, & mind swaps, you can see how life experiences made him into, well...different people who might lead vastly different lives. Where's our personal line in the sand? That path we take, or maybe the one that takes us, that branches off to a place where we would become unrecognizable to ourselves? A cruel person? A crazy person? An evil person? We all like to think it couldn't happen to us, but that's probably because that last button we have hasn't been pushed. Yet. So, kudos to the subtle and not-so-subtle plot threads running through this thing.
And yet. I have to say that I was pretty happy to be done with this story by the time I got to the end. Like in the First Volume's Deluxe Editon, I found all of the added issues of Heath's prior adventures boring. But I will freely admit that it was probably just because I wanted to move on and tick this damn thing off of my list. Fans will no doubt appreciate all the extras. Sometimes an entire series can hinge on its ending for me, and this one was a prime example of that. I thought it would take quite a different turn and surprise me, have some twist that would make this fun, or a big reveal that would make the whole thing take on an exciting turn. It did not.

The Arcola Institute which took Nadia's family to some supposed utopian society in the past is looking shadier and shadier the more they discover about the group and its recruitment practices. And Tatsuo is dying of rad poisoning, and jumping desperately to different future eras to find a cure. But will he run out of time before he can locate the right one?

You can't really say much more without giving major spoilers, so I'll just say this one is keeping me on the edge of my seat.

I'm really enjoying this one in a B-movie kind of way. And by that, I mean that this isn't some grand tale that I'd push on just any old reader. But if you like time travel, sci-fi, and graphic novels, then you'll probably get a kick out of this one.

Ok, but these were still a fun bunch of stories. Giffen plays up the time travel in fun ways that make comic book sense (at one point Booster simply goes forward in time to ask Ted how they got out of a particular situation) and keeps things light enough that you don't feel the need to unravel the "science" behind what he's saying. I enjoyed myself quite a bit.

Now. Somebody, please tell me what I need to read next if I'm looking for answers to what's happening with Booster Gold.

Rip sends Booster and Skeets back to make sure everything happens to ensure Cyborg Superman turns Coast City to ash and to stop another unknown time traveler from trying to stop the destruction. Things get complicated when he runs into Michelle and the man she loves. As they tend to do with time travel, and Booster has some serious doubts as to what his mission should actually be.
I will admit that the rules of time travel in this are iffy...at best. I am completely on board with time being solidified and certain events needing to take place. I am not, however, sold on Rip's claim that you can't change the past but you can change the future. What's the future? Whose future? That makes no sense. Neither Rip nor Booster is part of the timeline that they are currently working in, so when Rip acts as though the early 2000s are REAL TIME, everything before that is somehow solidified time, and the future is up for grabs (ish), I can't help but think this wasn't very well thought out. Then again. It's a Booster Gold comic, Anne. Shut up and go with it.

Rip desperately tries to figure out who the Black Beetle is while Booster and Raven (from the past) find themselves in a future with Trigon ruling Earth. Is this the future that Black Beetle wants or is there some elaborate trap being set for our time cops?

Fun title! I love the idea that Booster Gold is some kind of an updated Scarlet Pimpernel out there saving the timeline while acting the fool in front of almost everyone else. Recommended

No just kidding, the future sucks and rival gangs make bank smuggling people to places like the 80s. Right in the middle of terrible hairstyles and the AIDS crisis? Yes. <--which ought to let you know how bleak the far-flung future is going to be, sir.
The idea is that these two friends who are working off what they owe to one of the gangs decide to grab a time travel machine and make a run for it. But things happen and nothing goes according to plan. Now one of them is on the run for his life and stuck directly in the middle of a gang war, in which both sides want him dead.

The art didn't do much for me, but I liked the plot and the characters enough to give it a pass. I'm also dying to see if I'm right about what I think happened at the end of this one. Damn cliffhangers. So yeah, I'm definitely grabbing the next one.

I can't even explain what a complete letdown it was to hope like hell I wasn't reading another tragically sappy wad of nostalgia-nonsense, only to remember that of course I am because it was written by Brian K. Vaughan. I've compared him to Nicholas Sparks before and this just solidified that for me. Certain authors have a pattern that they don't deviate from, and because of that, you can guess the endings. I guessed this ending by the second volume this time around because of Y and Saga. But then I thought nah, maybe it will surprise me. Spoiler alert: It didn't surprise me.

This feeling of disappointment is a constant companion that lives in my head when I read anything by Vaughn, so I do believe this will be my last book by this author. Problem solved....more

I will say I blew through it pretty quickly. The main drawback was this odd feeling of impending doom that just sort of pervades that entire thing. When I started this as a re-read, I couldn't quite remember why I hadn't continued with these comics this when they first came out. Well, now I can definitely say it's because I feel vaguely depressed when I finish each arc. Like, Nicholas Sparks is hiding around the corner getting ready to pop out at me or something. I don't like it.
The action made a bit more sense and the characters are starting to tie together, though. Not sure about the hows or whys exactly, but there's a caveman baby and his mom and a futuristic old man that have more in common than I thought they would. Th Y2K stuff was kind of funny. Not laugh out loud funny, but funny in a hey, I remember that kind of way.

There is also the obligatory girl gets her period scene. Because you can't have a story about young girls without menstrual blood trickling down somebody's leg. AND THE FEELINGS!

It's great. Really. I've just seen this same thing done so many times that it's lost all meaning for me. Well, not all meaning. My inner 12 year old still giggles a little.
And I'm still not sure who the bad guys are! Is it the teenagers who look like burn victims that are running around fixing the timeline, or is it the adults who are supposedly preserving the original timeline? Or maybe the old people are the young ones and the young ones are old? See, this is why I hate time travel....more

Now, I don't want to make it sound like I hated it or something. It's ok. And the story has the ability to go either way right now. I've got 2 more of these deluxe editions to go. Right now we've got a story about middle school girls from the 80s that get caught up in some sort of massive time travel adventure. Some of it is cool, some of it is weird, and some of it is just pretentiously annoying. Maybe the giant maggots, clones, and nonsense language start to come together in a coherent way in the next edition - which I haven't read yet, btw. We shall see....more

Basically, Booster deals with the butterfly effect in a robbery gone wrong. Or a robbery gone right? Very confusing. But it's time travel, so what do you expect?
There's a decent amount of humor in this as Booster has to stand in for Killer Moth during a robbery, then swing back around and stand in for Batman at the same robbery - just to make sure everything goes down as it should.
Ralph Dibny starts sniffing around and then ends up helping Booster out when he needs to track some knives through the timestream. All is fun and games till Ralph asks how he and Sue are doing in the future. There's an awkward moment when Booster realizes that he can't save Sue from the events of Identity Crisis and tells Ralph to go home and enjoy his life with his wife.
Booster also runs into...Booster. This answers the age-old question: are two Boosters better than one?
And while the Boosters are trying to stop the knives from being used to bring a pharaoh back to life and subsequently doing some spoilery stuff to the timeline, Rip is out and about trying to patch a few things up himself.
What about Michelle, you ask? Well, she's been ping-ponging around the tie line with a villain who let the cat out of the bag about the fact that she's supposed to be dead.

I was afraid the series would lose its magic after Johns left, but this is a pretty good volume and I'm looking forward to reading more. Recommended.

So the main drawback is there isn't really a lot of shocking twists! in this title. If you've read much of anything time-travely in your life, then you're going to see pretty much everything coming. But still! Sometimes I just like to read silly shit with a happy ending.
Unlike the 1st volume, both of these guys have grown up and try to do the 'right thing' in this one. I think the fact that they were such yahoo-assholes turned some people off, so I thought it was a good thing to see some maturity this time around. Anyway, I liked it....more

Now, if that sounds like a terrible idea to you, you may need to back away from this particular graphic novel. I won't even say you'd be wrong to do so. This is one of those senseless stories that would probably go down a little better with a drink or two. <--or at the very least it might make any plot holes smaller. Shhhh. Don't look too closely.
The gist is that these two buddies go back in time, stop giving any shits about the revered butterfly effect, and just have a blast taking over everything and being the top dudebros in multiple timelines. Spoilery things happen, shit gets real, and they have to try and fix things before a Tommy Lee Jones look-alike from their timestream hunts them down and beats their asses. Or kills them. Whatever comes first.

Ok, so you know how Armstrong is a bit of an oaf, who acts first and thinks about the result of that action waaay too late to be of any use to him? Right. So in the last volume, he kinda sorta slept with the girl that Archer kinda sorta thought was the love of his life. And then Archer walked in on them. And then Archer walked out on them.
