In fSkye's life takes an unexpected turn when she ends up cataloging a big, abandoned house for her job that isn't nearly as abandoned as she thinks. In fact, there's a very old, somewhat cranky vampire in the basement. To be fair, I'd probably be somewhat cranky myself if awakened early from a solid nap. The fact his nap was running around the 70 year mark means Lucas woke up both cranky and hungry.
Which is to be expected, really.
Unfortunately for Skye, she was closest individual who could help with the hunger part. And, well, THINGS HAPPENED. Now she's a fledgling vampire with a brooding master vampire trying to teach her how to effectively vampire. You know, why she teaching him about the modern world. Lucas is a little broody, more than a little grumpy when things don't go his way, and he plays his cards VERY close to the vest. Which is maybe a little alarming to Skye when the big guy doesn't seem to care whether she continues with her undead existence or not.
No worries, however. Lucas is actually pretty invested in making sure Skye thrives. He's just really bad at showing it. That said, his other progeny (who are gathering to make sure all Lucas's plans go according to, uhh, plan) are quick to point out how out of character Lucas is acting with her. Which confuses Skye a wee bit, but she gets over it.
A swank house in the hills, a little accidental killing, a vampire family who are whole-hearted in their embrace of their newest sister, some backstabbing vampire politics, a vampire who knows what he wants when he sees her, and a lady who had no idea how much her life would change when she ventured into the basement. GOOD TIMES!

She was a slave before she was captured by raiders and things don't really seem to be looking up in any way, shape, or form. Until a broody, not-much-of-a-talker sea-ogre blocks the ship carrying her and demands a bride.
Except Ranan didn't actually want a bride. You remember that "not much of a talker" thing from above? Yeah, the big guy doesn't talk much because his words sometimes get tangled and he misspeaks. He really wanted a bribe, but Vali jumped at the chance to get off the ship and quickly volunteered to be his bride when he uttered the word. Now he's stuck with a human he doesn't know what to do with who can't swim and is hardly suited to life floating on the back of a giant sea-turtle.
On Vali's end, Ranan confuses her. He's surly and broody and barely speaks to her for all he requested a bride. Yet under all the grump is a male with a surprisingly sweet side. He may be terrible at expressing it, but it's there. Wrapped under grunts and scowls.
A little pirating, swimming lessons, more treasure than you can shake a stick at, a surly male who doesn't know what he needs until it falls into his lap, and a lady who is far stronger than she gives herself credit for. GOOD STUFF!

Their mom has skipped town (maybe) with some jewelry that isn't hers (probably) and somehow the sisters' house has been put up as collateral for her bail (not cool). The good news? As bounty hunters, the sisters have the tools and the skills to hunt her down. The bad news? Their mom has more than a few tricks up her sleeve and has managed to keep a step or two ahead of the sisters.
Enter Bennett Green, PI and all around good guy. Sure, circumstances might have him looking a bit like a stalker, but Bennett really is a sweetheart. He's also a little (tiny) bit socially awkward, so he and Felicity have a few interesting interactions before she realizes he's an a-okay guy. That said, Felicity also felt pretty comfortable with him even when she thought he WAS stalking her, so it didn't take long before these two were teaming up in more ways than one.
Meanwhile, what started as a way to get Bennett off their tails as they attempted to hunt down their mom without his interference, soon turned into an actual bounty hunt with more than a little danger. One road trip to Vegas and a little case of marriage later and a these are realizing there's a definite plus side to having someone watching your back.
I must say, I'm enjoying these firecracker sisters finding their special someones. Plus, revisiting Simpson and crossing paths with a few familiar faces is FUN!

Which is to say he was gloriously capable and pretty much a loner. You know, until he meets his person. Then he just might be okay with having someone at his side.
In Parker's case, his someone is US Marshall Sheridan. Jenna is driven and gloriously capable as well. She's also observant and dogged. Which means she doesn't give up on people when they cross her path. As it turns out, that goes for both ex-military men and fugitives. Sure, she and Parker might have only crossed paths initially because she needed his help in hunting down a dangerous killer, but she saw all the layers hidden under Parker's grouchy exterior and it didn't take long before she was trying to convince herself that a relationship with the big guy was probably a bad idea since they lived two very different lives in two very different parts of the country. To be fair, she didn't do well convincing herself of any of that.
A dangerous killer with the skill to disappear if given the chance, a chase that throws two people together in the best way, a man who knows a good partner when he meets her (although he fights that partnership for a while), and a lady who gives everything she's involved in 100%. Well, except her last relationship. But good riddance to that guy, amirite?!?!
HOO-BOY. Hollis and Sawyer have more sparks than they almost know what to do with. Just kidding, Sawyer knows what to do with them and he's more than HOO-BOY. Hollis and Sawyer have more sparks than they almost know what to do with. Just kidding, Sawyer knows what to do with them and he's more than happy to show Hollis everything and anything he can.
But before we get to that point, Sawyer and Hollis have to MEET. And by that I mean he finds her nekkid trying to get the smoke alarm to stop going off. AS ONE DOES. While Sawyer definitely likes what he sees in that first meeting, it's her kindness and intelligence that reels him in. Also, his fiercely protective streak is activated once he realizes she's laying low because she thinks she's being stalked. Sort of. It's complicated.
On Hollis's end, she's running on fumes and worries that no one will believe her when she tells them about what she's dealing with. But Sawyer does believe her and his strength and competence (plus how he doesn't treat her like a superstar) ticks all her boxes and it isn't long before these two are kicking their relationship up a notch.
A little danger, a superstar trying to be incognito, a visit by some of the Norcross crew, a man who knows a good thing when he meets her, and a lady who finds her perfect match while on the run. *thumbs up*
Ellie and Stacey are back finding the good late night eats in whatever town they're currently working out of and stopping ghosties from creating havocEllie and Stacey are back finding the good late night eats in whatever town they're currently working out of and stopping ghosties from creating havoc. Admittedly, that last part takes some doing. Come to think, sometimes they strike out on the good food front and have to take what's available. For the record, egg rolls sound kind of delicious right now, thanks, Stacey.
So. This time around they're checking out what's been disrupting the scares at an old mortuary turned haunted house. Given that countless funerals have taken place there and there have been several deaths on the property, Ellie and Stacey have their work cut out for them. Seeing as how the entire place is set up as a giant scare factory, there's A LOT going on.
But Ellie's up to the task. So's Stacey, but she's a lot less happy about the research side of things. Dressing up in scary costumes, though, and getting themselves to fit into the vibe of the place? Stacey's definitely down for that.
A layered haunting (there's seriously a lot going on for poor Ellie on this one), scare actors who have been scared themselves, a house with a past, and two plucky ladies who keep going until they get to the bottom of a situation. *thumbs up*

Sure, he falls and then fights it for all sorts of reasons he probably considers noble, but the point is that he knows Bell is his special someone from the start. Well, mostly from the start. Let's just say that he can't stop thinking about her after their memorable night together and having her walk into his gym is possibly the best thing that ever happened to him.
On Bell's end, she's a lady on the edge. She's on the run from a very bad man and her only thought is to keep those around her safe. Which means staying on the move and not making any attachments. While she was able to walk away from Beau after their one night together, she's not able to walk away (although she kind of tries) once they meet again. Mostly because Beau refuses to let her face what she's facing on her own.
Let's face it, with the combined might of the Fury family (both the brothers and their significant others), the bad guy doesn't stand a chance. But he does make life miserable for Bell before he gets his just desserts.
A solid ending to an excellent series. We got to see the brothers in action, catch up with a few familiar (billionaire) faces, and watch Beau and Bell find their happily ever after. GOOD STUFF ALL AROUND!

I read this as it came out in serial format and MAN I loved watching Zhur and Maeve figure things out in their messy, by-the-seat-of-their-pants way. Zhur had a lot of growing up to do (understandable given that he's getting his first taste of freedom in his life) and Maeve was the perfect match for him because she really didn't care who he was before, just who he could be now.
Which isn't to say things went smoothly. Zhur is a spoiled, entitled male when he first lands on Maeve's doorstep. Or, well, when she first awakened him from stasis. Regardless, his family status means he's gone through life as a pampered prince with servants and retainers who find a way to provide anything he requires. Maeve is the exact opposite of that. She refuses to wait on him, questions him about things people have never questioned him about, and pushes back in the most infuriating way. Except, it becomes a whole lot less infuriating the longer Zhur spends with her.
On Maeve's end, she might not have ended up with the pet she expected, but Zhur definitely keeps her from being bored. He's arrogant, entitled, and doesn't know how to do the most basic tasks. Despite all that, he somehow ends up growing on her. He gives her something to focus on other than her crushing loneliness and he's not THAT bad of a guy. She just has to keep in mind that he's an alien on the run and he won't be sticking around. Which means she absolutely can't fall for the arrogant guy and his strong arms.
Absolutely not. She wouldn't fit into his world AT ALL. And both of them know this.
An antagonistic beginning, family drama of a rather lethal sort, an unhinged meeting with Zhur's celebrity fanboy crush, a few familiar faces, a spoiled prince in hiding, and a lady who finds Lord Hairball growing on her in the best way. I <3 these Risdaverse stories so hard!

Honestly, the best friend's sister thing iFormer spy and all around protective dude, Reath is up and his special someone is his best friend's sister. Honestly, the best friend's sister thing isn't their biggest hurdle. I mean Frankie has VERY BAD PEOPLE trying to get their hands on her work and that's way more life changing than accidentally kissing someone who knows your brother, if you ask me.
Still, Reath and Frankie shared a scorching kiss before they knew who the other was. Then they got thrown together when Frankie ended up in the crosshairs of the bad guys and forced proximity is GLORIOUS, isn't it? At least it is with these two. The only downside is every time they think Frankie's safe things take a turn.
Which does NOT make Reath happy. He's a security specialist, after all, and his business is keeping people safe. Yet the bad guys keep getting too close and both Frankie and her work are in danger.
A big project that could do a lot of good, a bad guy who is making things personal, the brothers dropping everything to help when needed, a man who will do anything to keep his special someone safe, and a lady who knows a good thing when she sees it. GOOD TIMES!

Her body-borrowing business has taken a hit since she dealt with Harrow's uncle, she might be starting an almost-relationship with someone who's the PA to a death god, and she has no idea what she capable of from a magical perspective since her abilities seem to be pushing the boundaries of what she's used to.
Oh, and she's pretty sure Harrow has it in for her maybe-boyfriend and she has to keep a close eye on him whenever the two are near one another.
Yeah. Complicated. Investigating the disappearance of a young woman who's been living on the street is not exactly in her wheelhouse, but the spirit who hired her is desperate and Frankie has time on her hands. As it turns out, Frankie's experience on the streets when she was younger help her understand the kids they're trying to track down.
More than a few twists, a turn or two no one but Badb probably saw coming, an endearingly awkward individual with lots of power, ghosts, supernaturals, and Frankie trying to hold everything she cares about together when things start to fall apart. *thumbs up*

She's also finding hersDevin is up and his special someone is the sweet woman he's loved forever and has had to lock his feelings away for for years. She's also finding herself after getting out of an abusive marriage and a relationship with anyone isn't on her radar.
Well, until Devin lays out his feelings. Then Cassie has to work her head around being the special someone of a man as incredible as Devin. Given her rather battered self-esteem, that might be the hardest thing for her to accept.
Meanwhile, Cassie's mother has some terrible ideals and she's pushing at Cassie for divorcing her AWFUL ex. As for said ex, he's definitely not rehabilitated despite his model behavior in prison. To be blunt, Cassie has a lot on her plate outside of her budding relationship with Devin.
Small town shenanigans, two kids who adore the sheriff as much as their mom does, a bad guy with a chip on his shoulder, a man who has a whole lot of patience when it comes to giving his lady time, and a lady who has more strength than she knows. GOOD TIMES!

To start with, she pushes him in ways he never realized he needed and she's not afraid to tell him when he crosses any lines. She's also prickly and defensive and isn't interested in letting someone like Jared close.
Which is problematic for Jared since he's VERY interested in getting close. It isn't long before these two are butting heads as a couple and both Jared and Savannah are doing their best to fight falling too hard and too fast. Not that fighting it helps, but they give it the old college try.
Some verbal foreplay, a kiddo who steals Jared's heart, a small town with deep roots, a man who has to figure out the things that are important to him before he pushes it away entirely, and a lady who is determined to stand on her own no matter what. The next brother is up and I am HERE for it.

Even if it means delicious sausages must go uneaten. These two goodest boys aren't about to let a crime that happened RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM go unpunished.
Meanwhile, on the Atticus/Rose front, Atticus is about to take a big leap. He has to trust Rose to trust him enough to listen and understand why he couldn't tell her some of the things he's about to tell her when they first met. Which is a somewhat complicated way of saying that Atticus is about to spill the beans and Rose is about to have her world rocked. (Because dogs that understand humans and gods who walk the earth and all that jazz can be a little overwhelming.)
A truly terrible crime (which is to say on both the unaliving and sausage wastage front), some new old ways, a druid who is ready to take the next step in his relationship, and two very good boys who have CRIME to solve! MOST EXCELLENT

Wherein Oberon and StarbucReview for The Buzz Kill by Kevin Hearne: Once I started on Oberon's stories, I couldn't stop. So here we are, with book 3. Wherein Oberon and Starbuck do their thing and solve crime. As all good pups do.
Things have changed for Atticus since the previous tales. He's learning to work his druidery in slightly different ways due to his new limitations and he's, well...he's finding his way. A certain Detective Inspector he meets in the course of this particular case also sparks some interest in him which is exciting.
On Oberon and Starbuck's end, they're pups with a nose for injustice and they're not about to let this most recent crime go unsolved. Look, I'm not saying this had anything to do with Oberon's desire to find the culprit, but a little singing mishap puts him on a snack time-out and he's VERY motivated to clear that debt so he can go back to sausage and other delicious meats.
So Oberon and Starbuck put their noses (and their pupper-smarts) to the ground and work on figuring out who did the deed.
A potential budding romance, wild honey, sniff tests, a druid working through some issues, and two magnificent doggos who are willing to go the extra mile to figure out who did the crime. *thumbs up*

Especially when it involves dogs being dognapped or sausages going uneaten. So the goodest boy does what he must do and steps into his role as a mystery solver with gusto. The promise of gravy covered meats is also a good motivator.
But seriously, Oberon is mostly about justice. Because if he and his druid won't look after the dogs of the world, who will?
As it turns out the snatching of prize-winning pooches brings the adorably squishy faced Starbuck into Oberon and Atticus's lives. While Starbuck has a lot to learn about being a crimefighter (and about talking to humans), he's a solid ten in sausage appreciation. Which means he and Oberon become buds in no time.
Dastardly deeds, some prize winning puppers, a bear, a druid who is endlessly patient, and a crime-fighting doggie duo who get the job done. GOOD TIMES!
At long last, Tia catches a case of resonance and THINGS ARE COMPLICATED. Not because of Tia (which you might think given the brouhaha around her whenAt long last, Tia catches a case of resonance and THINGS ARE COMPLICATED. Not because of Tia (which you might think given the brouhaha around her when she first landed on Icehome), but because her special someone is from a dwindling people who live below the surface of the planet and his father (the chief) has a very specific way of running things. And this specific way? Is NOT going to work for Tia.
But before we get into that (if we do), let's talk about Tia. She was the youngest of the women dropped on the planet and she picked up a bit of a reputation as a troublemaker. She was flirty and liked to kiss and that caused problems among the Sa-Khui males. She was shipped off the Croatoan to grow up and she felt the sting of being sent away. In fact, Tia has more than a few abandonment issues and she doesn't feel like she really *fits* anywhere.
Then she gets kidnapped by the people under the mountain and she still doesn't feel like she fits, but it helps focus her. Or maybe it allows her to reframe things in her head. Regardless, she feels something for Rem'eb on their first meeting (not resonance, but something), but she's REALLY not okay with the whole kidnapping thing. So she decides she's going to do what she has to do to rescue herself. If that means flirting with the man tasked with caring for her, SO BE IT.
On Rem'eb's end, he's NOT happy with some of the recent choices his father has been making as chief of the tribe. But he's honorable and loyal and doesn't know how to push back without making things in his village worse. That said, Tia's (and R'jaal's) capture by one of the tribe outcasts is the catalyst he needs to go against his father's wishes. Except things don't go the way he expects and soon HE'S Tia's captive. Then resonance hits and all bets are off.
But Rem'eb still has obligations in his village. He's unwilling to leave his people behind when he knows he can help steer his father toward better choices. As selfish as he wants to be and stay with Tia as her resonance mate, he can't abandon them. Which leaves him in a bit of a pickle.
I'm really digging the introduction of the people who have been living below-ground. Their remnants of technology and the way they live opens up a world of possibilities for the various people living on the surface. EXCITING!
Yessss. We're back with Riley, Nick, and THE CREW (said in very shouty letters because Riley's former roommates are something else) and they have the Yessss. We're back with Riley, Nick, and THE CREW (said in very shouty letters because Riley's former roommates are something else) and they have the horrible, terrible, COMPLETELY AWFUL (said in very shouty letters because he's a genuinely terrible person) Griffin Gentry as their newest client. Since Griffin is Riley's ex-husband on top of being a utter douchecanoe of a human, Nick is super not pleased with this case.
On the plus side, Nick gets to fantasize about all the ways they could abandon their morals and leave Griffin to fend for himself. Not going lie, Nick has a lot of fantasies about that. But since he's a basically decent human and Riley keeps guilting him into sticking around, Nick does not, in fact, leave Griffin to deal with his issues himself.
On Riley's end, she's a good enough person that she doesn't want to see Griffin end up as the next homicide story on the news. So she grits her teeth and deals with Bella's female face-blindness and Griffin's obsession with his own reflection and does her best to keep him from getting whacked. Given Griffin's (and Bella's) complete lack of situational awareness along with even the tiniest drop of common sense, it's a pretty big job.
But Riley has her spirit guides on her side, her hunk of a honey guarding her back, a dog with gut issues when he eats human food to keep her centered, and her chaos-gremlin former roommates to muck things up in the most unimaginable way possible at every turn. In other words, the Riley Thorn special.

Yeah, Ren also thinks he's not good enough for Halle, so he's sure he'll end up hurting her somehow if anything were to happen.
Halle disagrees. She's been in love with Ren forever, but things really ramped up after a heated kiss on her 20th birthday. She might know everything Ren has had to do on his missions, but she sees the honorable man he is. So when circumstances force them to spend time together, Halle sets out to prove they are exactly right for one another.
A failed kidnapping, some mysterious happenings aboard ship, and a wild escape that saves the two of them by the skin of their teeth has all of Ren's protective instincts going haywire. The guy refuses to let anything happen to Halle and it's probably not at all because he's completely in love with her. HA. Spoiler: He's completely in love with her.
A harrowing journey across a beautiful island, danger nipping at their heels, lava tubes, abandoned resorts, steamy kisses, a man who doesn't think he deserves to be loved, and a woman determined to prove him wrong. MAN, I like these men and the women who capture their hearts!

This time around, we have Prudence. We met her in Maggie's book and she seemed to be nothing more than a librarian who had dreams of bigger things. As it turns out, there was plenty more to Prudence than just being a librarian. I mean, the lady was a psychic dream consultant prior to the librarian gig. She wasn't a fraud, either. But having a client die during a reading doesn't do a lady's reputation any good, so Prudence changed her profession and left the psychic stuff behind.
And yet, she still ended up in an awful predicament and ended up asking Luther for help unraveling what was going on.
Which brings us to Jack. Ever since the accident that scarred him, he's been adrift. Prudence's case intrigues him, which is something that hadn't happened all that much recently. So while he might not believe Prudence has genuine dream reading abilities, he still wants to help her figure out how she ended up in a hotel suite beside a dead man. As he works on building a profile on the person who is framing Prudence, he finds himself falling for her. Which doesn't stop him from using her as bit to draw out the killer, but it really is the only plan that seems like it will work.
A little danger, several familiar faces, complicated family dynamics, a big house with lots of baggage, a man who needs a push to break out of his rut, and a lady who is willing to do whatever needs to be done to build a life for herself. MAN, I like spending time in Burning Cove.

ConKnightqueen Carys is up and she's trying to work her way back to her people to stop whatever terrible thing the Gek'Dragar have in store for them. Considering she and Sten were kidnapped (royal and guard-napped?), held prisoner on a distant world, escaped from said captivity, and are now on the run from their captors, they have a lot going on.
Given the intense situation they're in, it's no wonder the two of them lose the fight against their long-standing emotions for one another. Yes, these two have MANY FEELINGS about the other, but they've both been pushing them down because she's the queen and he's her guard. Never mind that they work well together, have nothing but the best interests of their people at heart, and are willing to do anything to keep the other safe. Oh, wait. Never mind that never mind. These two are PERFECT for one another.
Carys has been in love with Sten for ages. Sten has been in love with Carys for about the same. It takes a dangerous, terrible situation for them to finally realize they're better together. For both themselves and their people.
A terrible enemy doing terrible things, a little forced proximity, a few familiar faces, a knight who will protect his queen (and the woman he loves) at any cost, and a queen who fights for her knight with single-minded ferocity. MAN, I like these knights and their utter dedication to doing what's right.
