Marv is a penniless hulking brute from the most forgotten part of Sin City, but one lucky night he finds heaven in the arms of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen— Goldie— only to find her dead the morning next, and he being framed for the murder. Who wanted this angel dead? And why? One way or another, Marv is going to find out.
This was a very fine comic, and just by having experienced the first of seven issues I can see where it legendary fame comes from. The storytelling is simple yet also very dark and complex. The full story neatly divided into 13 short chapters of 8-12 pages each. The characters all but marginal, rogue and violent, yet everyone extremely compelling in their own twisted way. Marv, Goldie, Lucille, Wendy, Roark, all fantastic. The illustrations are beautifully artistic, exceptionally well designed, and drawing a lot of attention to themselves, my only gripe that I couldn't understand some of them. The black and white style is undeniably unique and with a superb neo-noir vibe.
I have very few comics in my shelves, most acquired randomly during my childhood; and even though I read this digitally, this is one of few exceptions that I wouldn't mind owing in physical format, to feel, glance and admire once in a while. All in all, this was a superb comic, an even though it wasn't exactly a favorite, still looking forward to reading and completing the rest of the series very, very soon.
**** The movie (2005) is an admirable adaptation, capturing much of the comic's soul and style. Mickey Rourke playing a fantastic Marv. Kevin the creepiest thing on earth, as much as in the comic. Flawless scenography, casting and ambience, with several unforgettable moments not easy to forget. So dark, and violent! Yet masterful in its way. Extremely faithful to the book. Highly recommendable. (8/10)

Marv es un pobre bruto descomunal de la parte más olvidada de la Ciudad del Pecado, pero una noche afortunada encuentra el cielo en los brazos de la mujer más hermosa que haya visto jamás— Goldie— sólo para encontrarla muerta a la mañana siguiente y él incriminado por su asesinato. ¿Quién quería ver a este ángel muerta? ¿Y por qué? De una forma u otra, Marv lo va a averiguar.
Este fue un cómic muy muy bueno y con sólo haber experimentado el primero de siete volúmenes puedo ver de dónde proviene su legendaria fama. La narración es simple pero también muy oscura y compleja. La historia completa bellamente dividida en 13 cortos capítulos de 8 a 12 páginas cada uno. Los personajes son todos marginales, rebeldes y violentos, pero cada uno de ellos extremadamente atrapantes en su retorcida forma. Marv, Goldie, Lucille, Wendy, Roark, todos fantásticos. Las ilustraciones son hermosamente artísticas, excepcionalmente bien diseñados y llaman mucho la atención, mi única queja que no pude entender algunas de ellas. El estilo en blanco y negro es innegablemente único y con un magnífico toque neo-noir.
Tengo muy pocos cómics en mis estantes, la mayoría adquiridos al azar durante mi infancia; y aunque leo esto digitalmente, esta es una de pocas excepciones que no me importaría tener también en formato físico, para sentir, mirar y admirar de vez en cuando. A grandes cuentas, este fue un cómic excelente, y aunque no fuera exactamente uno de mis favoritos, igualmente espero leer y completar el resto de la serie muy, muy pronto.
**** La película (2005) es una adaptación admirable, que captura en gran medida el alma y estilo del cómic. Mickey Rourke interpretando a un fantástico Marv. Kevin la cosa más espeluznante del mundo, tanto como en el cómic. Una escenografía, casting y ambientación impecables, con varios momentos inolvidables no fáciles de olvidar. Tan oscuro, ¡y violento! Ari is a teenage boy desperately wishing to move to the big city with his friends to party and rock with their music band, but when her sister marries and moves away he is forced to stay behind to help with the family business. An opportunity for escape arises when he hires Hector, a young student chef, to help with their struggling little bakery. Yet, while teaching him the trades, he's not so sure anymore if he's found more than just an escape.
I suppose this was cute? Fluffy? Simple? Like way too simple? Truth be told this was kinda boring, didn't move me an inch, and landed for me as flat as truckload of perforated tires.
All the characters seemed uni-dimensional, when not ZERO-dimensional. And I keep wondering how many loose ends this thing has.
Sister marries and is never heard from again? A so call "band" that never ever actually practices? Cameron is a full time jerk and nobody kicks his ass? Or spits to his face? Ari's parents want to tell him something VERY important, and NEVER say it? A bakery that is ALWAYS broke, no matter how many TONS of goods they sell? If ovens set ablaze in mere seconds just for setting it to max I think anyone who cooks would be dead, myself included. A simple I'm sorry for reconciliation? Really? WOW. And I usually miss all these plot holes; so either I'm getting smarter, hardly, or all this stuff is just so painfully obvious that even someone as shortsighted as me can notice them. Somehow it felt like my Young Adult self was spoon-fed a borderline Children's grade delivery?
Anyway. The drawings are nice, so is Hector, and Ari's parents. Anything else, I couldn't care less. I suppose the comic is overall ok, if you don't overthink it too much, or you enjoy Baking. Interesting use of the color Blue, although I enjoyed the Pink in Laura Dean ten times more.

Una oportunidad de escape surge cuando contrata a Héctor, un joven estudiante de cocina, para que le ayude con su pequeña panadería en aprietos. Sin embargo, mientras le enseña el oficio, ya no está seguro si puede haber encontrado algo más que sólo un escape.
¿Supongo que esto fue lindo? ¿Entrañable? ¿Simple? ¿Demasiado simple? A decir verdad, esto fue bastante aburrido, no me movió un centímetro, y me cayó tan soso como un vagón de globos pinchados.
Todos los personajes me pareceron uni-dimensionales, cuando no CERO-dimensiones. Y sigo preguntándome cuántos cabos sueltos tiene esta cosa.
¿La hermana se casa y se la traga la tierra? ¿Una supuesta "banda" de música que nunca toca o practica? ¿Cameron es un idiota a tiempo completo y nadie le patea el trasero? ¿O le escupe a la cara? ¿Los padres de Ari quieren decirle algo MUY importante y NUNCA lo dicen? ¿Una panadería que está SIEMPRE en quiebra, no importa las TONELADAS de mercadería que venda? De alguna manera se sentió como si mi lado Joven Adulto fuera alimentado en cuchara con ¿algo de grado casi Infantil?
En fin. Los dibujos son lindos, al igual que Héctor, y los padres de Ari. Cualquier otra cosa, no podría importarme menos. Dentro de todo un cómic aceptable supongo, si uno no lo sobrepiensa demasiado, o disfrutás Cocinar. Interesante uso del color Azul, aunque disfruté el Rosa en Laura Dean diez veces más.

The backstory through the eyes of Jonesy, Ellen Ripley’s cat, during the events that transpired aboard the USCSS Nostromo spaceship, in the “Alien” movie.
This was quite cute and humorous overall. Nothing horror like in the movie, just simple sci-fi fun. Any fan of the movie Aliens would probably love this, and more so a lover of cats. I think this is pretty safe for children too. Can’t see anyone else liking it though.
My personal favorite is Aliens 2 btw.

Esto fue dentro de todo bastante adorable y humoroso. Nada de horror como en la película, sólo simple diversión de ciencia ficción. Cualquier adulto fanático de la película Aliens probablemente lo amaría, y más especialmente un amante de los gatos. Creo que esto es bastante seguro para niños también. Aunque no veo que a alguien más pudiera gustarle.
Mi preferido personal es Aliens 2 por cierto.

This last volume was the messiest of all. It was hard enough trying to follow the girls travelling through time barely making enough sense of it, to now follow all them four at different times, relentlessly changing pov’s with every new caption, and still trying to make some sense of wth is going on. Girl power was present, I guess. Not that it made much difference anyway. And to culminate this fantastic series a kind of (view spoiler)[‘it was all a dream’ (hide spoiler)] ending. Great.
So long Paper Girls! Will miss you dearly! Not.
Am I still going to watch the cancelled TV series (2022)? Of course I will, I love wasting my time.

Tiff, KJ, Mac y Erin están esparcidas en varios puntos del tiempo, pasado, presente, futuro y que no, tratando desesperadamente de reunirse para intentar dios sabe qué. Gran Padre todavía siguiendo su rastro y tratando de matarlas, porque aparentemente eso es lo único que hace. Lo que sea.
Este último volumen fue el más desordenado de todos. Ya era bastante difícil tratar de seguir a las chicas viajando a través del tiempo apenas teniendo el suficiente sentido, para ahora seguir a todas las cuatro en diferentes tiempos, cambiando incesantemente de puntos de vista con cada nuevo cuadro, y aun intentando tratar de sacar algún sentido de qué demonios está pasando. El poder femenino estuvo presente, supongo. No que hizo mucha diferencia de cualquier modo. The Tiffs, KJ, Mac and Erin travel again in time from Y2K to the far future, where they meet a beloved character from the past; Wari, the teenage cavewoman, and his son Jahpo. Grand Father and their goons still following their tracks, trying to kill them before time, and the world, destroys itself.
This volume was possibly the craziest of all. The secret of Grand Father is revealed, and when things finally start making sense, a new plot twist is added that makes a huge mess of things again. Girl power ever present, KJ and Mac trying to find a cure for her fatal disease. The Tiffs and Erin trying to find a way back home before it’s too late. To top everything, a tragic ending, and an amazing cliffhanger that leaves you wondering how the hell this is going to wrap up in just one more last installment.
Unfortunately I’ll never know since I’m quitting this series and never reading the final comic.

Este volúmen fue posiblemente el más alocado de todos. El secreto de Gran Padre es revelado, y cuando las cosas finalmente empiezan a tener sentido, un nuevo giro de trama es añadido que hace un desastre de las cosas otra vez. El poder femenino siempre presente, KJ y Mac tratando de encontrar una cura para su fatal enfermedad. Las Tiffs y Erin tratando de encontrar un camino casa antes de que sea demasiado tarde. Y para coronar todo, un trágico final, y un increíble gancho que te deja pensando cómo diablos esto puede cerrarse en tan sólo una última entrega más.
Desafortunadamente nunca lo sabré porque abandono esta serie y nunca voy a leer el comic final.

Grand Father, the Prioress and their violent soldiers following their trail. This is probably not going to end well.
This volume was again as crazier as many before. Not much is revealed, and a lot is added that makes nothing but confuse what little is known. I must admit this felt the weakest of the series so far, Girl power was there, but nothing really memorable happening, and Mac can be a real jerk sometimes. A shocking ending, and another cliffhanger that promises yet another time travel.

Este volumen fue de nuevo tan loco como muchos antes. No se revela mucho, y mucho es añadido que no hace más que confundir lo poco que se sabe. Debo admitir que este se sintió como el más flojo de la serie hasta ahora, el Poder Femenino estaba ahí, pero no sucede nada realmente memorable, y Mac puede ser a veces una verdadera idiota. Un final chocante, y otro final suspensivo que promete otro nuevo viaje en el tiempo.

This volume was far less chaotic than the first, but still many things keep happening and it’s hard to understand wth is going on. Girl power still very strong, their friendship lovely as ever. Este volumen fue mucho menos caótico que le primero, pero aún siguen pasando muchas cosas y es difícil entender qué demonios está pasando. El poder femenino todavía sigue muy fuerte, la amistad adorable como siempre. Erin conoce a Erin fue muy raro, pero bueno. Frederica and Laura Dean love each other, but they keep breaking up again and again. What is the problem? And more importantly, is there something they can do about it?
This is what graphic novels should aspire to. Mostly relatable characters, gorgeous artwork, beautifully compelling plot. VERY inspiring. The beginning kinda dragged, but the middle and resolution were truly magnificent. Can’t say I really approve all of Frederica’s decisions, but I can certainly understand them, and I feel her pain.
Absolutely LOVED all of Vi and Barfing Girl interactions. Also LIKED Doodle a lot, found her tragically adorable. Totally HATED Laura Dean, an uncaring and self-absorbed girlfriend bent on breaking young Frederica’s heart. (wait a minute… this sounds familiar!)
An exquisite LGBT YA graphic novel, the kind not easily forgotten. Refreshing. Uplifting. A favorite place well earned. Highly recommendable.

Frederica y Laura Dean se aman, pero siguen rompiendo una y otra vez ¿Cuál es el problema? Y más importante, ¿hay algo que puedan hacer al respecto?
Esto a lo que las novelas gráficas deberían aspirar. Muy relacionables personajes, precioso arte gráfico, hermosamente atrayente trama. MUY inspiradora. El comienzo arrastra un poco, pero la mitad y la resolución fueron verdaderamente magníficas. No puedo decir que realmente apruebo todas las decisiones que tomó Frederica, pero ciertamente puedo entenderla, y puedo sentir su dolor.
Absolutamente AME todas las interacciones de Vi y Chica Vomitadora. También me GUSTO mucho Doodle, me pareció trágicamente adorable. Totalmente ODIE a Laura Dean, una egoísta y superficial novia empecinada en romper el corazón de la joven Frederica. (un momento… ¡esto suena familiar!)

Man, this was terrible! I cannot fathom why Herbert ever released it. This was HIGHLY below average, even by comic standards. I guess he must’ve been really desperate for money, because it’s the only understandable reason for this *thing* to be published. Unrelatable character, horrible visuals, hardly any plot. Sadly I can say I’ve seen worse, but not a lot. Avoid at all costs.
His rat trilogy novels are still good, especially the awesome #1.

Dios, esto fue terrible! No puedo entender por qué Herbert alguna vez lo publicó. Esto fue MUY inferior al promedio, incluso para estándares de comic. Supongo que debe haber estado realmente desesperado por dinero, porque es la única razón entendible para que esta *cosa* sea publicada. Personaje inrelacionable, visuales horribles, casi inexistente trama. Tristemente puedo decir que vi cosas peores, pero no muchas. Evadir a cualquier costo.
Su trilogía de novelas de ratas sigue siendo buena, especialmente el increíble #1.

Tiff, KJ and Mac deliver the newspapers in their neighborhood. This particular morning they meet Erin, the new girl, and they team up in pairs. Doing their daily route they stumble upon a strange device, and then everything goes straight to hell, maybe literally.
Loved the characters and their friendship, it feels so real. Mac kicks ass, and Erin is cool. Some very nice moments, and crazy ones too. There are a lot of things happening and I don’t understand what the hell is going on. (view spoiler)[ aliens, monsters, mummies, spaceships, hippies, time travel, ray guns, gunfights... (hide spoiler)] Can’t tell the good from the bad guys. Is it still Earth? And why do I dislike the Apple logo so much now? Time will tell.

Tiff, KJ y Mac entregan el periódico en su barrio. Esta particular mañana conocen a Erin, la chica nueva, y arman equipo en pares. Haciendo su ruta diaria se encuentran con un extraño dispositivo, y entonces todo se va directo al infierno, tal vez literariamente.
Amé los personajes y su amistad, se siente tan real. Mac sabe patear traseros, y Erin es copada. Algunos lindos momentos, y algunos muy locos. Hay muchas cosas sucediendo y no entiendo qué demonios está pasando. (view spoiler)[ aliens, monstruos, momias, naves espaciales, hippies, viaje en el tiempo, pistolas de rayos, balaceras... (hide spoiler)] No puedo diferenciar los buenos de los malos. ¿Sigue siendo la Tierra? ¿Y por qué me desagrada tanto el logo de Apple ahora? El tiempo dirá.

A few years have gone by. Hazel is confined to a Landfall re-education center. Marko and Alana desperately trying to find her exact location and get her back. Her true nature remains hidden, but the secret is out, and luck only lasts for so long...
I guess it was good, overall, some very decent moments, some very memorable quotes. Hazel's openness and brutal innocence is the cutest thing ever, and I can never get too much Ghus. Still, it wasn't as great as the earlier volumes, some boring bits, and all the GoT nude scenes start to feel kinda forced. Losing interest, but looking forward to see what the ending chapters hold next.

Pasaron algunos años. Hazel está confinada a un centro de re-educación de Landfall. Marko y Alana desesperadamente tratando de encontrar su ubicación exacta y recuperarla. Su verdadera naturaleza sigue escondida, pero el secreto está afuera, y la suerte sólo puede durar por poco tiempo...
Supongo que buena, dentro de todo, algunos momentos muy decentes, y algunas frases muy memorables. La franqueza y brutal inocencia de Hazel es la cosa más hermosa, y nunca puedo tener suficiente de Ghus. Sin embargo, sigue sin ser tan bueno como los volúmenes previos, algunas partes aburridas, y todas las escenas de sexo al estilo GoT empiezan a parecer forzadas. Perdiendo algo de interés, pero esperando ver qué ofrecen los últimos capítulos.

Hazel, the little miracle child, has been kidnapped by Dengo, a deranged extremist. Her life used as a bargain chip between the Wreath and Landfall factions. Marko, Alana and Prince Robot desperately trying to catch up to get their children back. The Rebellion rogue group also enters the fray. This may sound crazy, but it's probably not going to end well for anyone.
This volume deals with some highly important topics, and it delivers some very, very powerful messages. Still, overall, sort of sad and disappointing. The least favorite of them all so far. I could not connect like with the previous chapters. And I really don't care much for Prince Robot IV, I hope he gets it. Btw, long live Ghüs!

Hazel, la pequeña nena milagrosa, es secuestrada por Dengo, un extremista trastornado. Su vida utilizada como una ficha de negociación entre las facciones de Wreath y Landfall. Marko, Alana y Prince Robot desesperadamente tratando de alcanzarlo para recuperar a sus hijos. El grupo rebelde Rebellion también se une a la confrontación. Tal vez pueda sonar loco, pero probablemente esto no vaya a terminar bien para nadie.
Este volumen trata con temas altamente impotantes, y entrega unos mensajes muy, muy poderosos. Aún así, en general, medio triste y decepcionante. El menos favorito de todos hasta ahora. No pude conectar como con los capítulos previos. Y realmente me importa muy poco lo que pueda sucederle a Prince Robot IV, espero que le toque. Por cierto, larga vida a Ghüs!

Problems in heaven. Our lovely fugitive couple struggles to secure a livelihood while hiding in some remote charted planet named Gardenia. Marko as a dedicated stay-at-home dad, Alana as a feisty disguised troupe actress. Tension rises, mistakes happen, and someone is bound to pay the price for it.
A nice turn to a bit of emotional family drama, strange, yet moving, and with some little action as well, how can that be missing. An awesome cliffhanger too. Looking very forward to the next chapters.

Problemas en el paraíso. Nuestra querida pareja fugitiva lucha por encontrar un medio de subsistencia mientras se esconde en un remotamente ubicado planeta llamado Gardenia. Marco como un padre amo de casa, Alana como una enérgica actriz en disfraz para una compañia. Las tensiones aumentan, errores se cometen, y alguien va a terminar pagando el precio.
Un lindo giro hacia un pequeño y emocional drama familiar, extraño, pero conmovedor, y con un poco de acción también, como podría faltar. Y un final en suspenso brillante. Esperando ansiosamente leer los próximos capítulos.

Showdown time. Fugitives and pursuers get together for a nice little talk. Alana, Marko, The Will, Gwendolyn and Prince Robot IV finally meet on the peaceful lands of Quietus, and you can guess it, not everyone is walking out of it in one piece.
Starts somewhat slow, at least in comparison to the previous volumes, but it sure ends with a couple of bangs. Entertaining, thrilling... and sad.

Es cuando todas las cartas están sobre la mesa cuando te das cuenta de cómo todo se va a desarrollar.
Tiempo de confrontación. Fugitivos y perseguidores se reunen para una pequeña y amena charla. Alana, Marko, The Will, Gwendolyn y Prince Robot IV finalmente se encuentran en las pacíficas tierras de Quietus, y lo podés adivinar, no todos van a salir de eso en una sola pieza.
Empieza algo lento, al menos en comparación con los volúmenes previos, pero sí que termina con varias sorpresas. Entretenido, emocionante... y triste.

In this continuation of the series we backtrack to the early days when Alana, the soldier, and Marko, the prisoner, met, and how everything unfolded for them to be together. From an indifferent beating to a crazy incomprehensible love; while at the present time also fleeing Cleave from their many pursuers, and trying to find some place in the universe, any place at all, where their little baby daughter can be safe.
Excellent sequel to Saga. I enjoyed it even much more than #1, and looking forward to reading the next chapters. Did I ever say I'm a sucker for love stories?

En esta continuación de la serie volvemos atrás a los primeros días cuando Alana, la soldado, y Marko, el prisionero, se conocieron, y cómo todo se desarrolló para que terminaran juntos. Desde una paliza indiferente hasta un loco amor incomprendido; mientras a su vez en el tiempo presente escapan de Cleave y sus muchos perseguidores, y tratando de hallar algún lugar en el universo, cualquier lugar posible, donde su pequeña hija bebé pueda estar segura.
Excelente secuela de Saga. La disfruté incluso mucho más que #1, y entusiasmado por leer los próximos capítulos. Alguna vez dije que soy fan de las historias de amor?

In this graphic novel we learn the story of "Clementine", an innocent sixteen year old schoolgirl. Clementine believes she is straight, but when she meets "Emma", everything begins to change. Blue hair, blue eyes, blue aura spreading all over her life. Her heart, her body, and everything within her is shaken to a world completely unknown before. Unable to understand her new found feelings, every emotional part of her begins to fall apart. Slowly, and painfully, Clementine starts the difficult process of coming out, and come to terms with her new sexuality. But her friends and family are not really supportive, and Emma is not really single.
A beautiful short graphic novel about the painful hardships of coming out, overcoming the prejudices of the inner circle, and the ultimately acceptance of our own sexuality. Moving, tearful, enlightening; a truly unique read.
**** The movie is superb adaptation. Maybe even a major improvement on the graphic novel. Some very big changes were made to the original plot, but masterfully executed. Most of the praising goes to the outstanding heartbreaking performance of Adèle Exarchopoulos, and an exceptional Léa Seydoux. It may have been a little bit too excessive on the graphicness of the sex scenes, sure, but leaving that aside, a perfect drama in almost every way, truly deserving of the Palme d'Or.

En esta novela gráfica conocemos la historia de "Clementine", una inocente niña de colegio de dieciséis años. Clementine cree que es heterosexual, pero cuando conoce a "Emma", todo empieza a cambiar. Cabello azul, ojos azules, un aura azul que empieza a desparramarse sobre toda su vida. Su corazón, su cuerpo, y todo dentro de ella es sacudido a un mundo antes completamente desconocido. Incapaz de entender sus nuevos sentimientos, cada parte emocional de ella empieza a derrumbarse. Lenta, y dolorosamente, Clementine empieza el dificultuoso proceso de salir del clóset, y tratar de aceptar su nueva sexualidad. Pero sus amigos y familia no son realmente receptivos, y Emma no está realmente soltera.
Una hermosa corta novela gráfica sobre las dolorosas dificultades de salir del clóset, la superación de los prejuicios del círculo cercano, y la aceptación final de nuestra propia sexualidad. Conmovedora, lagrimeante, reveladora; una lectura verdaderamente única.
**** La película es una adaptación sobresaliente. Tal vez incluso una gran mejora sobre la novela gráfica. Algunos cambios muy grandes se hicieron sobre la trama original, pero magistralmente ejecutados. La mayor parte de los laureses se los lleva la extremadamente conmovedora actuación de una magnífica Adèle Exarchopoulos, y una excepcional Léa Seydoux. Tal vez haya sido un poco excesivamente explícita en las escenas de sexo, sí, pero dejando eso de lado, un drama perfecto en casi cualquier sentido, realmente merecedora del Palme d'Or.
