did not like it

I was dying to read this, if only for the elegance of the title. What a disappointment. I’m giving up fairly early in the book. The only thing worse than being lectured to by an improbably learned, but overbearing and self-satisfied concierge is being lectured to by an insufferable kid. Gack.

I adored the book and loved the interplay between the woman and the child. The glimpse into life. It wasn't a lecture at all but a conversation.

Lisa A social satire that frequently swept into precise exquisite moments. Not a perfect novel (I have a few thoughts) but on the whole, I fell in love with the characters. I alternated between laughter and at other turns, was stunned by the "still life" moments.

Marina Maidou And what about the awful end... that book should be called, The Misery of a Who-cares Parisian Apartment Building...

Alarie I enjoyed it a bit more than you (2 stars), but was glad to see your review. I kept wondering why so many people I know rave about it. For starters, I didn't find the child voice convincing. I thought she and the woman sounded too much the same. Then there was the toss off ending, but you didn't get that far.

Gina Whitlock I loved it and gave it 5 stars. It's funny that all of us see books in so many different ways.
