What did you think of The Husband's Secret? I have been seeing it everywhere and have been thinking of reading it.

message 3: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments Alannah, it was okay - I can't see what all the fuss was about it though.

The Taliban Cricket Club is very good.

message 4: by Beth (new)

Beth | 508 comments Maggie, I agree with you - way too much hype for a very mediocre book.

message 5: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments 4. Mr Lynch's Holiday by Catherine O'Flynn - I've read all of CO'F's novels and all are excellent.

I remember hearing that from someone last year. I'll have to add it to the pile! And by the way, if you want to do our Around the World challenge, this would count for Asia :)

Maggie | 537 comments Leslie, I am doing the challenge and am 4 books in:)

Ah yes, the lady who is racing through the continents! I wasn't sure that you were the same person (I rely heavily upon the icon pictures to identify people)...

Maggie | 537 comments I will put a photo on - when I can figure out how to do it! (And find a decent one!)

I'm not very good at geography either - get mixedup with north and south america and which countries are in which!

message 10: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments 5. One Step Too Far by Tina Seskis - unputdownable! I didn't see the twist coming at all!

message 11: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments 6. Ten Nights With The Boss: Being A Bruce Springsteen Fanatic by G W McKee

Well - I am a Bruce Springsteen fanatic!

7. Letters From Mallorca by Kevin Woodrow
8. A Summer in Magaluf by Kevin Woodrow

I love Mallorca - and I especially love Magaluf, for all its detracters its a fab fun place. Kevin had the bar next to the apartments where we stay, he had a nasty infection on his foot which resulted in him having his lower leg amputated - these books are the result of a long time convalescing. Not the best written books - by far - but still, written with the best intentions - and a love for Mallorca.

9. Elijah's Mermaid by Essie Fox

I wasn't overly keen on her previous book (The Somnambulist) - but I'm so glad I read this. Its a much better book, well written, well researched, - a real page turner (although it did take a few chapter to really get going).

10. Dark Matter: A Ghost Story by Michelle Paver

I read this in a day and loved it. Another page turner.

One of the quick read series - read in an hour - it was okay.

12. Stay alive by simon kernick. Quite enjoyed this thriller.

Which is more than I can say about using partners tablet - hate it - he has my laptop as big computer kaput - as this may well be when I throw it across room, hell.

Maggie | 537 comments 13. The Postmistress by Sarah Blake

I've read some not too good reviews of this book - I loved it, I thought it was very moving and well written.

17. The Fever Tree by Jennifer McVeigh

message 18: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I see that you are another fan of the Nordic/Scandinavian noir genre :) There are several people in the group who have said good things about Yrsa Sigurðardóttir; I guess I will have to put her higher on my TBR!

Maggie | 537 comments 20. Blind Fury by Lynda La Plante

21. The Captain's Daughter by Leah Fleming

22. The Never List by Koethi Zan

23. The Shoemaker's Wife by [author:Adriana Trigiani|9219)

Oh dear, I've absolutely loved all pf her previous books but was so disappointed by this. Although the description of the food, countryside in Italy, New York is good - there's just too much of it and not much story. So disappointed!

Maggie | 537 comments I was doing well - then the next two books I abandoned: Savage Lands by Clare Clark - omg I was plodding through and losing the will to live! The Uninvited Guests by Sadie Jones - just couldn't get into it yet I really enjoyed her first book The Outcast.

Hit a bit of a lull stressing about my next operation, (elbow replacement) which has now been put on hold for a few weeks due to an infection - so I can try and get back on track.

30. Briefs Encountered by Julian Clary - just the right book to get me back! Funny and quite rude - love it!

Maggie | 537 comments 33. The Devil and the River by R.J. Ellory

One of my favourite authors - this is brilliant.

34. Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this - not my usual type of book but so interesting and written with a lot of humour.

35. Trafficked: The Diary of a Sex Slave by Sibel Hodge

I quite enjoyed it - it was a heck of a lot better than The Distant Hours. I'd give it three and a half stars!

message 42: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments Leslie, I've just amended my post - it's actually Guilt!

1. Mercy
2. Disgrace
3. Redemption
4. Guilt

We have different titles here in Uk.

message 43: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Thanks -- I hadn't realized the titles were different. Another series to check on the fantastic fiction site :/

message 44: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 537 comments It does get confusing Leslie - I was about to order what I thought was a new Adler-Olsen book on Amazon = good job I scrolled down as it was Guilt!
