Ann (annrumsey) | 16659 comments Our October Group Read books is Tana French's latest, The Searcher the US release date is October 6, 2020.

No Spoilers on this topic please - are you planning on reading the book?

Barbara K Yes, once it’s available. I was going to get a jump start on it until I saw that it’s not officially published yet.

Kari | 149 comments Got it on pre-order so planning to read it when it becomes available, although my spare time is very sparse these days! :)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16659 comments Barbara and Karly: I used an audible credit and preordered, i won't be able to get to it right away due to library due dates, but am eager to get to it soon too!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16659 comments From the Kindle "look inside the book" I see there are twenty-one chapters. They may not be of equal pages counts, so may adjust the segments later.. I am setting up four discussion segments now!

Barbara K I saw that my pre-order came through today. I have one chapter left in the book I’ve been reading in the interim, so I should be able to start tomorrow.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9335 comments You know I love Tana French but I am not very far into Troubled Blood so that is taking my eye-reading attention. Maybe I'll use an Audible credit. But even if I do I've also just started listening to East of Eden by John Steinbeck, and that's a BFB.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16659 comments Carol: I am at least a book and a half away from starting The Searcher (again). The narrator didn't grab me when I first started it, so I skipped to The Silent Wife (almost finished and very good), and will probably listen to a library loan A Time for Mercy, the Grisham latest, first.
Perhaps our timing will line up!

Laura | 2 comments I just started The Searcher yesterday and the author has successfully hooked me into continuing to read. I'm at about 25% right now.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16659 comments Laura: that's great! I just started it today too. I decided to risk the timing on my library loan for A Time for Mercy and read it after this group read.
The narrator has grown on me. I think i was just initially missing an expected Irish accent. ;)

Barbara K One thing that made me smile repeatedly while reading this book was the constant offers of tea whenever anything was a bit off. My first visit to Ireland was in the 1980's, before the economy took off and the tourist industry wasn't as smooth running as it is today. Every time something went wrong (hotel gave our room away when the ferry from Holyhead arrived late, restaurant brought our food out late and cold, etc. etc.) we were offered a pot of tea. Personally I would have found Guinness to have a more soothing effect, but tea it was, about 6 times over a long weekend.
