Mount TBR 2015 discussion

This is my Kindle Edition Trek to Mount TBR. My physical book Trek to Mount TBR may be found here: Physical Books Owned Trek.

My reading resolution is to tackle some of these books I own. I'm going to have two tracking lists for me. The first one is going to be my Physical Books Owned. The second one is my kindle books owned (I have 6000+ kindle books in my Amazon Cloud). The goal is to get to at least 150 books.

As of May 19, 2015 I've made it to the Mt. Olympus goal. This is just for my kindle library. It's interesting to see these kindle books are only half of my books read 2015. The other half are library books, kindle unlimited, and from my physical books. I'm going to continue on to see what Mount I can reach by the end of 2015.

Review: This is a really hard genre for me to read. I just don't like it. It tends to lack and I felt this book lacked. I don't know how it has so many high ratings. It's kind of a twist in the same all bullshite story of Romeo and Juliet. I felt it fell flat. It didn't keep my interest much and I was more exited when it ended. It's okay, I will never re-read it. I will NOT continue on in the series. It's just not worth my time. Two stars. It's not worth more but it's not worth less either.

Review: These poor kids. :( I liked the story but it wasn't the worst nor best. It was a story that was right in the middle. I can just feel the pain these kids were in. I wouldn't do well out in the woods either.

Review: Okay, I know with a title like this everyone will just be rolling their eyes or thinking wtf are you reading. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great but it was kind of entertaining. Think of this as more of an adventure story. I can totally see his influences. It kind of has that Vern feel but Sherlock in Victorian steampunk style. I know it doesn't make sense but it isn't bad. Just a filler kind of book.

Review: I’m a fan of Tudor history. I love learning about the Tudors and the Medici. I already knew the majority of what was in this little zippy book. This is why I want to rate this a 3 star book but I’m going to be kind and rate this 4 because I liked the lay out and I did learn a few more things about Elizabeth. I actually didn’t know she always wore a ring, this ring meant a lot to her. When she was older her hands became crippled and curled. They couldn’t get her ring off so they had to cut it off her hands. Also her teeth were black then too. Not the image we had of her I know. The neat part, especially those that want to learn about her without reading huge text, is that this little zippy is only 132 pages, a major win for those that are just dipping into Tudor history.

Review: At first this book really grabbed me from the beginning. It’s heartbreaking knowing that many of African American mothers had to leave their babies in order to work, most of the time to take care of other people’s babies. Talk about a harsh world. It makes me sad to know this has been a history in the United States and other countries. It’s ugly. This book just lightly touched on it. I see it more as a Caucasian’s view to this ugly side of the heated topic of slavery and racism. It doesn’t get into the really bad horrors that are involved it but it does touch lightly. This story is about a small rebellion that two of the main characters do. It shows a bond and the relationship. I found the ending sad but very realistic. I know why it’s now called Yellow Crocus.

Review: I grabbed this book last year when I saw it fairly cheap in price. I heard wonderful things about this book but when I read it I didn't like. Let me say why. It is because I don't like the message it sends. 1. Lou is very unprofessional and crossed boundaries and professionalism, things that would make any caregiver never allowed to work with adults or children again. 2. it isn't right that they try to stop Will. They are selfish people. I work in caregiving and I see people that are in pain and people that I do end of life care for. When you experience this you soon realize that there is so much more than you own beliefs in this. You need to look at it in their point of view to really understand it all. 3. The whole Pat issue. He isn't an ass. He was just stuck with someone not good for him, Lou. They were not good for each other and just went through the motions. She brought out the bad in him and she brought that out in her. Everyone wants to team up on him but the only thing he is really guilty about is telling the news. He was very jealous but it doesn't make him bad.

Review: This was a different book. Well, some of the book. I should have read the reviews first because I didn't know it was part of the books. Still, it's interesting. I had no idea what I was really getting into. The sex scenes, were a surprise. This book was a little confusing because it jumped around a bit but the writing is great. I think I would have liked it more if it was the full book.

Review: I loved this book. It's a very complex book that lingers. It's very psychological. It has Frederick's POV which is creepy to read. It's like Stalker 101. You see him go through the process of watching her, then desiring to have her (not sexually but in love), it comes to a major obsession, and he convinces himself to abduct her. The second part is Miranda's POV, then the third is his. I love this book. Just an extra creepy book and it doesn't settle well.

Review: An interesting mix of genres. This first starts off with a bang. We get to see a glimpse of medieval Zon and some of the major cruelty that happens there. Get out the cat-o-nine tails. Viscous. Even some of the sex scenes are very sadistic. It caught me off guard because I didn’t expect it. Then we see what is happening in present day. The time shifts are very clear. It is labeled at each chapter. I like that mystery and thriller part of the book. Just some parts are graphic.

Review: Talk about torturing myself! Why did I pick a cookbook of sweets and chocolates. I do like how the format of the book. The introduction talks about how it’s important to use coconut oil and other healthier options when cooking up these sweets. She even put in a little info in the different ways to cook chocolates and how to do it for each method. What to watch for and points of interest. I did like that part because I never thought it would be such a task. Stir, stir, stir, don’t scorch. I have bookmarked a few of the sweets that I’d for sure like to make and give out for Valentine’s Day. I also rated this book a little lower because there were a lot of recipes in making truffles. I just don’t have the patients to make truffles so it isn’t my style. Still it’s a good book and has a good amount of fun recipes that have good pointers, like which one is major sticky and what to do to prevent having a major mess.

Review: This is the final book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, book number 13. I’ve been following Sookie for a long time. I watched the TV show on HBO and now have read the entire series. I’m so disappointed. Very disappointed. I knew I would be but after a while the books shifted to match more of the TV show but not really. I liked reading the books because it was very different from the TV show. This book was very different from the last season of the TV show. This book was very boring. Like I’m shocked at how boring it is. Sookie is taking a lot of pain pills and still has her men all around her. She has a lot of choices and options. I knew she’d pick who she did. He was the less complicated choice and she can have a future with him. This has been a long road that has come to a final conclusion. Please Harris no more books. Let it be. You ended it so badly, not even much sex or carnage in this one.

Review: This is a beautifully written book. They have stout beer! YUM!!! I have found the characters are quite typical for the time but there is a depth to them. It makes the read very captivating. I couldn't stop reading it.

That is really neat. I also enjoy the hogs :P Death is an interesting part of the book too. I like it and will for sure continue on in the series. This is a huge series! 41 books!!!!

Review: This book is a different genre for me. I've had it in my Kindle for over a year. It was one of those free Kindle books I grabbed from an app. This was a M/M romance. I've read some of those for the first time last year for a challenge I was doing. I read a lot of free short story style and it pretty much turned me away from the entire genre. I picked this one on because a GR friend had read it and rated it a 4 star book. I figured why not. This is very graphic, which isn't a problem to me. I don't mind it being that way. It's about a futuristic society that has slaves and a good amount of slaves are men. They are bought in slave markets and brought to their owners home for all kinds of things, some are just pure sexual acts. This was a BDSM M/M erotica book. It wasn't bad writing. I just can't connect with the characters and didn't really get into the book. It might have been my mood or my past experience in reading all those horrible books last year. 70 of them. This isn't a genre that I'm not very fond of. It isn't the M/M part, it's just not face paced or quality material.

Review: I had this book on my kindle. I thought the cover was really neat and the description sounded neat. I didn’t like this book when I first started it. I was about ready to roll my eyes and rack it up as just another one of those kinds of books but I kept going and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Yes, this is a genre I’m normally not into but something in how it was presented made me feel there was a small connection with the book, Like Water for Chocolate. I liked the style of how everything revolved around food and the catering business while there were special herbs being added. The apple tree is one heck of an apple tree. I want one. I also was surprised about so much seduction involved in the book. It meshed really well and I liked the style of writing. The very end of the book is neat too because it breaks up the plants and herbs they use and how they work. Neat idea! There is a heck of a lot going on in this book. I haven't even touched the surface. This is a really neat book.

Review: I watched the movie years ago when it first came out. It was a heartbreaking story and I cried because of the heart wrenching ending. There is so much missing in the movie that the book covers. This is all the point of view of Bruno, a child’s view. It’s how he tries to internalize the horrors of World War II. He secret playmate is the boy in the striped pajamas and this story just how innocent children have questions and try to understand what is going on around them. His sister is three years older and she understands more. This is a very difficult book to read. I’ve put it off because of the subject and because I knew what happened. The main difference is the book is deeper. This isn’t a happy book.

Review: I've had this book for over a year. It was one of those books that I picked up from my app that get's me free kindle books. It looked interesting and I was into thrillers at the time. The problem with this book is the stories are trying to have some shock value. They do have all elements or some very violent parts (including rape). I felt the endings of the stories just didn't match up, perhaps the stories just are too short. Anyway, it was a disappointment. The good thing is it's short. It isn't that I hated it. It's just eh.

Review: This is one of this guilty pleasure books. It’s one of those popular urban fantasy paranormal books for grown-ups. Elena is one of the only female werewolves. She is kind of trying to do her own thing by trying to mask who she really is, by having a job and a normal boyfriend. She is then asked to help out with this murder mystery. This is where things get kind of juicy. This book has really interesting and fascination transformations (turning into the wolf doesn’t sound like much fun). It also has mystery of a how done it. And the best and juiciest parts are the sex scenes. Oh my! Think of two very hot flat stomach, hard six pack abs hot for you male (werewolves but in human form) taking you to bed. WOW! That was nice. As I said, guilty pleasure! I am not sure if I want to continue on in the series but if I’m feeling in that kind of mood, I think I might.

Review: This is a very deep space book that has a lot more to it than what appears. It seemed boring at first but really it gets better. This team deals with a lot and there are some major surprises that happen, just out of this body kind of experiences. There are twists and lots of other missions they have to do. I really enjoyed it and found it a nice small story. The writing is great. I was sucked into the story. Also, for a bonus in the back of the book, it’s tells about all the characters. I kind of wished that was in the front but then it would give away a bunch of stuff.

Review: I found this book really interesting. If anything the style of writing is what grabbed me. The language and slang used really made the characters come alive.

I really like Huck Finn. I find him a sweet boy that had to deal with a lot in his life. His harsh upbringing really shown the resilience that he has. I just felt so terrible for him. His father was just the worst and it made me think about life during that time, especially being born into one of the very low socioeconomically classes.

Jim is a wonderful character too. Putting aside all the ugliness of that period of time and slavery, I felt that the compassion and the boys felt for him and he for the boys was great. There are parts where I felt uncomfortable with some of the talk, thoughts, and actions happening but I reminded myself of when this was written and what was going on during this. Sometimes it's just best to take a story for just what it is, a story and not read too much into it.

I sure wouldn't want a best friend like Tom Sawyer, oh the mess he gets them into. Goodness!

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. The many different characters in the book are unique.

Review: I had a difficult time rating this book. It isn't the worst book but it isn't an okay book. Perhaps it's a 1.5 star rating book.

I would have never had read this book but it was a Vaginal Fantasy Alt selection and Bonnie Burton reviewed it. Since it was a kindle unlimited book (there was no way I'd pay the 0.99 cents for it) and only 17 pages, I figured why not.

Oh goodness! This books is just so wrong. The story line is just crazy. I mean we go from terror of a T-Rex on a rampage to sex with the T-Rex for survival. It was funny, just the idea. I tried not to laugh while reading it because it's just so odd. How the heck is there an entire genre in this? Or even the process of creating this story?

This will be the first and last story in this genre for me but if you have a few minutes to waste go ahead and read the story and just skip about 75% of the 17 pages book and get to bow chicka wow wow T-Rex moment. You will not miss anything.

Why? Just why? Just remember some images your mind pictures might be stuck with you for life.

Thanks Steven and Jessika. I wanted to see if there if anything stood out to me with the stats. It will be interesting to see them from year to year. Mind you this is only a little over a half of the books I've read for the year. It would be interesting to also put in my library books, kindle unlimited, borrowed, and books I've purchased this year.

I've got one down as well! I'm dedicated to reading my own books this year (no challenges that require library books, out of my comfort zone, etc). So, I'm hoping to complete Olympus finally.

I got rid of boxes and boxes of my books in November. Most of my books and almost all of my collection of childrens books. It was hard to do. Really hard to do. I told them, thank you for giving me pleasure and I hope they have good homes. So, my physical collection of books is very small now.

I read a lot of library books, kindle unlimited, and borrowed books. I tend to read a lot but I have a new job starting so that might slow down my progress in climbing the big 2016 Mt. Olympus.
