James | 377 comments In Japan, a small number of individuals, working groups, and large collectives who act as "Preservers of Intangible Cultural Properties" in both the performing arts and in traditional crafts are recognized by the government and by the people as "Living National Cultural Treasures".

If we had that here, Dolly would surely be recognized as such.

madrano | 22045 comments As we travel around the US we see pockets of groups which offer performing arts for themselves and, at times, the public. When we see such things, i wish exactly what you do, James--that we recognized such endeavors.

I'm grateful that individuals and groups continue these traditions/arts, so we can learn from them. The last we saw was more specific, tribal (Caddo) dancing. The joy on the faces of the participants was neat to see because they were dancing for other tribe members.

We've seen the same with clog dancers, btw.

I want to add that we are fortunate to live in times when we can see traditional crafts online, sometimes to purchase, even. Just the other day, while following up on a Detroit mystery i read (August Snow--Stephen Mack Jones), i found this website--https://www.pewabic.org/--about what the Pewabic Pottery company is doing to share their skills. Loved this!

Way off the music topic but my enthusiasm overtook my decorum, so to speak.

I agree. That is so cool that Japan does that. I think it fits with their admiration of the elderly.

As to Ms. Dolly, she always seems to have a wonderful upbeat personality. I especially admired her when she donated $1 million dollars to help fund the covid vax research. A much better use then flying into space for 2 minutes.

Neil Diamond or Chopin ? I'm guessing Chopin. (Show pan) is how I say it. However, being a New Yorker I am the last person to ask how to correctly pronounce anything. ;)

My mother took me to piano lessons when I was four, so I think I always pronounced his name correctly but only because I was involved with music so early in life.

From the play Camelot

It's May !

YouTube
Julie Andrews Sings "The Lusty Month of May"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pljyj...

GUENEVERE:
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la!

GUENEVERE & CHORUS:
Tra la la la la [etc.]

GUENEVERE:
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That darling month when ev'ryone throws
Self-control away.
It's time to do
A wretched thing or two,
And try to make each precious day
One you'll always rue!
It's May! It's May!
The month of "yes you may,"
The time for ev'ry frivolous whim,
Proper or "im."
It's wild! It's gay!
A blot in ev'ry way.
The birds and bees with all of their vast
Amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast,
The lusty month of May.

CHORUS:
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear.
It's May! It's May!
The month of great dismay.

GUENEVERE:
When all the world is brimming with fun,
Wholesome or "un."

GUENEVERE & CHORUS:
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Performing on stage is a whole other level.

However, in just day to day activities, I realized most people aren't paying any attention to you, only themselves. Once you realize that, a lot of pressure is off.

Then, if you are a women, you basically become invisable after 40.

I don't go out much but i haven't felt this way very often, thankfully. Or maybe it's just that it's been going on all my life, so i no longer notice? This could be true, as i'm not an assertive person. Possibly, it has to do with where we've lived? Not sure.

We are so heavily made up and costumed in opera, that I don't know why I worry, but I do. Many in the audience are just waiting for the soprano's highest notes, and when she sings her aria, all eyes are on her, something that makes me dreadfully uncomfortable. I would be so much further advanced in my career if I could have conquered my stage fright. And, if I were independently wealthy, I would have almost certainly become a hermit, living in a meadow, surrounded by woodland, reading and writing.

I don't go out much, either, Madrano. It just doesn't interest me, other than taking the kiddies where they want and need to go.
