A lifelong Midwestern girl, Cassandra was quite young when she discovered the haunting undertones behind everyday life. A haunting experience as a university senior in the summer of 2004 changed everything; she would struggle to make sense of that experience until she started work on Mary, Everything in 2013. Bathed in summer sunlight and crafted from early 2000s punk rock, this first novel is a time travel experience of its own.

Cassandra lives in central Ohio with her wife, house rabbits, and video games.

And of course, her own ghostly memories.

Cassandra Yorke is currently not accepting new questions.

I lose patience with arrogant twats who aggressively tell you "THERE'S NO SUCH THING!!!". They're gaslighting you and invalidating your experience of frustration.

Writer's block tends to happen as a result of some kind of illness or affliction (like ADHD), or as a result of being attached to some outcome in your story. The best things you can do are to make sure you're in the best mental health you can be, and if you're stuck, meditate. Seriously. A few minutes of quiet meditation can detach you from whatever endgames or outcomes you're attached to, maybe without realizing it. Then you can do the most important thing - let your characters and events decide how the story flows and where it leads. The challenge for the author is not to interfere too much in the natural process of the story telling itself, or of characters playing out the narrative. If your story is going in a certain direction, follow it, or at least pay close attention. And if you don't want it to go there, negotiate with it. If you simply override it, the creative part of your soul will be like "alright, whatever, do it your way" and go do something more productive. It's all about listening. :)(less)

If you were any good
you’d be getting your clit sucked

and you’d have coffee and bagels once a week
with Ellen DeGeneres

The Midnight Club by Margot Harrison
"This book wormed (sogged?) its way into my dreams. No, really! Over the course of the days I read it, I kept dreaming that I was asleep but I was also standing next to my sleeping body, watching it.

Partly fantastical, partly mysterious, wholly suspe" Read more of this review »
The Midnight Club by Margot Harrison
"I devoured THE MIDNIGHT CLUB. It's a smart, surprising, and gripping mystery about the reality that we can't change who we were back in college, but we'd all be a lot better off if we could. And, for the characters in this fine novel, one of them mig" Read more of this review »

My new favorite military sci-fi. Of Friction was deeply satisfying from cover to cover. It's a highly cinematic novel, too; Lee cites the director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Blade Runner 2049) as one of her main influences, and that cinematic style c ...more

To me, Anna Woiwood is one of today's most important feminist voices in historical fiction - especially sapphic historical fiction. "Veracity of Lies" is a gorgeously written piece of

“In a weird sort of way, cursed forests and evil wraiths aren't half as terrifying as the thought that all the things that have given you hope may not be real at all.”
Cassandra Yorke, Mary, Everything

“If you wanted to disappear, this would be the place to do it. Outside the city limits, the nights are dark and old, and people who vanish are never seen again.”
