Hazel B. West is the author of several novels including historical titles like On a Foreign Field, By Blood or By Bond; Wolfsblood, a book about werewolves in Roman Britain and the Modern Tales of Na Fianna series, which feature modern Irish warriors with swords and fast sports cars and lots of faeries.

Hailing from Purgatory (aka, Florida) Hazel is an indie author, book wyrm, and coffee connoisseur. She typically enjoys writing books with an unconventional flair, probably with a bit of folklore and mythology, most definitely with a lot of siblings or brothers-in-arms. When she’s not writing, she manages an Etsy shop, drinks a lot of coffee, listens to music, haunts conventions, or just holes up like an eldritch horror and binges her favorit

Sometimes characters refuse to talk to me and sometimes I just can't figure out how to get someone out of a certain situation. When it comes to that, I might start something new, or more commonly, I turn to reading similar books. Watching tv series is also a way I deal with writer's block. Anything to inspire!(less)

The second book *should* be out in October, it's technically a Halloween book, so I thought it would be fun to bring it out then. I will be getting a page set up for it here on Goodreads soon, it's going to be called "An Earthly King"(less)

CHARACTER INTERVIEW: Luc Montague

Today I'm sharing a character interview I did with one of the cast of Mara Tran's debut novel THE WARD.

Introducing Luc Montague, the Piper. Let's see what he has to say on the subject of the mysterious murders happening in Venisia and the Black Masquerade.

Thanks to Luc and Mara for doing this interview with me!

Quotes by Hazel B. West  (?)
Quotes are added by the Goodreads community and are not verified by Goodreads. (Learn more)

“I've come to the conclusion that a man without a cause is nothing. He has nothing to look forward to, he has nothing to work toward; he is as a man lost, wandering in the darkest part of his heart to find a deeper, better purpose in his life.”
Hazel B. West, On a Foreign Field: A Story of Loyalty and Brotherhood

“When you are a soldier you do not always realize there is anything beyond the will of your commander, the will of your king. But when you're on the field of battle, when the swords clash and the colors fly above you in all their glory, there comes a time when you wonder: Why am I here? All the brilliance fades, the glory becomes meaningless; the blood spilled and comrades dead, all for nothing when you have no cause to fight for.”
Hazel B. West, On a Foreign Field: A Story of Loyalty and Brotherhood

“Kilroy," Jeremy said and the boy turned to face his father again. "Stand fast, boy," he told him. "Stand fast.”
Hazel B. West, Ballad of the Highwayman

“The words of the bards come down the centuries to us, warm with living breath.”
Pádraig Pearse

“If you don't know history, then you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree. ”
Michael Crichton

“When we read a story, we inhabit it. The covers of the book are like a roof and four walls. What is to happen next will take place within the four walls of the story. And this is possible because the story's voice makes everything its own.”
John Berger, Keeping a Rendezvous: Essays

“Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and dreams are the shadow-truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes, and forgot.”
Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 3: Dream Country

“He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad.”
Rafael Sabatini, Scaramouche

Hazel West Ahh, that was a close one! Yes, I always try to remember to back my stuff up as soon as I'm done with it. I remember the pins and needles feeling of using my old computer and wondering whether it would lose my files, My laptop is a lot more nice to use because I don't have to worry about that too much.

message 21: by Mara

Mara I almost fried my laptop yesterday - on accident, naturally. Had a moment of panic and was immediately glad that I had backed up my story on a Flashdrive. Thankfully, though, the computer didn't die. Phew!

message 8: by Hazel

Hazel West You know, I bloody hate facebook. It's even hard to create an account for a fictional character (hits head against the wall)

In other news, I just ordered the proof copy of "On a Foreign Field" Hopefully that will turn out much better!

✽Laurenj426✽ Hi Hazel! Thanks for accepting my friend request :)
So, I mostly read YA novels. I'm trying to get into more classics though also. I read basically any YA, but mostly fiction. I'll read paranormal, dystopian, contemporary, adventures and stuff like that. I like heroes and people who can stand up for themselves and aren't reliant on everyone else. I like strong willed characters.
