While I wait, I'm compiling a list of people to whom I plan to send ARCs of my second book, which comes out in November -- only about three months from now! When I was a journalist, I didn't have the luxury of telling my boss, "Sorry, I don't have a story for you today because I didn't feel inspired." If I'd said that, I probably would have been fired. The show had airtime to fill, and it was my job to fill it. I approach my creative work with the same sort of discipline.

That isn't to say I always feel motivated to write. Some days it's a slog. A painful, laborious slog. But I've found that if I just push through, I'll eventually get to a happy place where the writing flows more easily. (less)

“You can't worry about what other people think you should do. The only way you'll ever be happy or make a real difference is by pursuing the things that motivate you and make you excited to be alive. Life is too short to waste years of it being miserable or asking 'What if?”
Dana Bate, The Girls' Guide to Love and Supper Clubs

“If this is the start of a better day, I haven't bought nearly enough vodka.”
