Sue You're so right! I cannot imagine a writer not being a reader, first and foremost!!! I read an average of a book a day - which is probably why my own book is stuck at Chapter 17!! :) There is so much to learn from other authors...such as yourself! I loved both of your books and can only hope to someday measure up!

message 2: by Sue (new)

Sue I meant to say 'both of your first two books"...I have not read your third, yet.

message 3: by Zabette (new)

Zabette It's kind of like saying I want to be a great pitcher but I never watch baseball games. Writing doesn't seem to get the same respect as baseball does.

message 4: by Dr. Phoenix (new)

Dr. Phoenix Reading, such a sweet poison! :)

message 5: by Salomé (new)

Salomé McSmith I don't think that the author has to read a lot to be a better writer. There are writers who deliberately avoid reading some authors simply because they are afraid to be influenced by them. I always wondered how come Homer was a genius be such a genious. There was not so much to read in those times as we do have now.

message 6: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Martinez reading is wonderful in so many ways and serves so many purposes. my daughter's bf came to the united states as a teenager, from an african country, and spent his first several months here in a public library reading john grisham's novels to learn about the american way of life. he didnt say how he came across grisham. lol

message 7: by LESTINE (new)

LESTINE . Totally agree. I've learned so much about the world, other lands, spiritual guidance, myself--all because I love to read and it makes me feel close to the author.

message 8: by Jen (new)

Jen your books left me stunned that even in this 21st century. events like in your stories still happen today. i became more aware of how the world works here in the u.s vs. other countries.

message 9: by Zonia (new)

Zonia Your stories have revealed various faces of human life and emotions

message 10: by Titi (new)

Titi Ady I too read every day of my life, no matter how tired I a when I lay me down to sleep. Reading, for me is better than s.....tuff!

message 11: by Sajid (new)

Sajid Idrisi You have rightly put it into words how reading is important for an aspiring writer.

message 12: by Lise (new)

Lise Pomerleau-Mayne I also read voraciously. Every type of literature: fiction, non-fiction, novels, poetry and short stories.

message 13: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen I love reading! Read 1 or 2 stories each day to preschoolers when I was a teacher. Now my young granddaughters get a stack of about 10 books for me to read to them each time they are with me. I don't go to bed with out reading for at least 1/2 hour.

message 14: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Ravasio What about if you secretly hate to write? If you are forced into writing by something greater than yourself?

message 15: by Janis (new)

Janis Or as a teacher either! I've met more than one in my profession. How you can pass on a love of reading, when you don't read, is beyond my comprehension!

message 16: by Anupam (new)

Anupam Waiting for your new novel. When will it get over sir?

message 17: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Dear Khalid,
Since having read your first published novel, THE KITERUNNER, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. I have also read A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS and THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED. I have yet to read your most recent book.
While all of your books are superb, why not go out of your comfort zone? Why not write a book about the children of Afghani refugees that were born in America? To be brutally honest, your books are starting to fit a pattern--someone as talented as yourself can surely break that pattern... I was born and raised in America and, while I have truly enjoyed reading your other books and learning about your culture, I would love to read a book about Afghanis that were born in America. I hope that you will consider such a book. Thank you.

message 18: by Lori (new)

Lori Sampson Do you plan on doing any book tours? I have read all of your books and absolutely love them. Sea Prayer is very touching...especially since I have relatives in Syria and Lebanon. I would love to have you sign my Sea Prayer!!

message 19: by Priyanka (new)

Priyanka Dixit i so so agree to you.. all the words!! I'm an avid reader and an aspiring writer. Would love to get your feedback when my 1st book is out! :)

message 20: by Sunitha (new)

Sunitha Manoj Just finished reading Kite Runner.. Beyond words..

message 21: by Neha (new)

Neha How did you come up with ideas for The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns? I fall short of words to express how much I loved reading them.

message 22: by Linda (new)
