I was only a few days in when I bought Gibson’s Easter volume also.
So much to love here. The selections by Christians from the past and church fathers are deeply encouraging. I also make it a point to sing aloud the Gloria Patri and Doxology when they appear.
This book is just perfect for daily worship and you can use the McCheyne plan in the back or whatever Bible reading plan you are using.
I also loved the daily catechism selections from either Heidelberg or Westminster.
Four stars for being easy to listen to and interesting. I love these biographies that take me back to my own childhood like an episode of Mad Men. My own first recollection of Tim is from The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again but as I read the book I realized I had seen him before that in so many old shows from my childhood. He is a genuinely pleasant guy.
I suspect at times he has a bit of a chip on his shoulders. He also pulls back the curtain on a lot of depraved Hollywood behavior that is just sad.
If you grew up in the 60s, 70s, or 80s I suspect you will enjoy the nostalgia in this book. ...more

My two favorite articles were Looking on the Dark Side about Edward Gorey and his dark, fun stories for kids and Shaving with my Father about lyric poetry for boys!
I love how Flora Neville reminds us that Gorey’s sparse style leaves room for the imagination and he definitely avoids moralism.
Of course, I am going to buy all three volumes of lyric poetry mentioned by Nigel Andrew and I love how he acknowledges the role of mediocre poetry in the development of a taste for poetry! So important!

Truly life-giving book written by a Catholic author but for a catholic (small c) church audience.

That she found peace and acceptance and worship in her own everyday life without letting bitterness in was so refreshing to read. She speaks to women and mothers especially even though she never bore a child. Like Charlotte Mason. ...more
