I’m not related to Gerard Way but I wish I was because he’s a major fucking hottie. I’m a vampire (hunter) but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also a witch, and I go to a magic school called Hogwarts in England where I’m in the seventh year (I’m seventeen). I’m a goth (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow. I was walking outside Hogwarts. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of preps stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.
“Hey Ebony!” shouted a voice. I looked up. It was…. Draco Malfoy!
“What’s up Draco?” I asked.
“Nothing.” he said shyly.
But then, I heard my friends call me and I had to go away.
Disclaimer: This may or may not be a quote from the book. If you know, you know. But let me tell you, if you're looking for an old school vampire-packed trashy tropy Twilight-like YA fantasy like they used to write in the golden days, look no further than Cruel Illusions. What. A. Treat. <3...more

This was a solid YA fantasy read, loved the fantasy and I especially loved the main character. She's flawed and authentic, and she just felt unique and well-crafted compared to other YA heroines. Not perfect, but real. ...more

This was such a surprise, a compelling fantasy with darker tones than I imagined, and I must admit I was actually spooked at some parts! Different than many YA fantasy published these days, it felt like a breath of fresh air. I'd love to read more from the author. Thanks, Fairyloot! :)...more

It's very rare for me to rate a book one star, and that is because usually, when I'm reading a book and I realise it's not for me, I just stop reading it because, again, I understand that it's just not for me and why would a do myself and the author a disservice by reading and rating it? However, in this case I actually own the book, as it was in a Fairyloot box, and I hate having such a beautiful book in my library and not being able to enjoy it. So I tried very hard to make myself like it, but to no avail.
I didn't like the writing style, many things in the book were just too cliché and outdated (I thought we were past the angsty ya protagonist who is "not like the other girls"?), and I just couldn't really get myself to care enough about the plot to actually understand what was going on. There wasn't one single character who I cared about (maybe the prince? I don't know), I enjoyed the setting and the tales, but even those were told in a way that made me less engaged in the content, instead of more. Overall, I guess I just don't like the author's style. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to go on with the series. On the plus side, the book looks gorgeous! I might sell it or give it away sometime in the future, I'm sure it can find a future owner who appreciates it, it's really wasted in my hands! :)...more
