4.5 stars

2021 me is laughing at my 2016 review because rereading this changed everything I felt about this book. I love it so much more now and for completely different reasons. Honestly an all time favorite 💗
(can’t believe I was a darkling stan 💀)

[2016]

3.5 Stars

I honestly had no intention of reading this series, but after loving Six of Crows I decided that I had to give The Grisha Trilogy a chance. And I am SO happy that I did!

While I felt that the plot and romance were somewhat tropey, I instantly fell in love with the world and the characters (especially the Darkling <3) and I can't wait to see how they develop in the rest of the series!

✨ jami ✨ imo the first one is the worst of them all. I don't think Grisha is nearly as good as SoC but! I still really enjoyed it. I hope you do too

Hannah (Sakurahan or ForeverBooks18) I liked Shadow And Bone the most of the Grisha trilogy. I gave it 5 stars (I think). I think it would be a 4-4.5 stars now though. I just thought it was written really well, and it kept me hooked.

🌈💜SAVINA🦋✨ hey just wondering, is six of crows a companion series ?? can you read it before the grisha trilogy or is it better to read this trilogy before hand ??

Six of Crows takes place after the events of the Grisha Trilogy but with all new characters. You can really read them in any order, I think it's just a matter of preference. I personally read Six of Crows before reading Shadow and Bone.

I hope this helps! <3

Makayla Claflin Which do you like better, shadow and bone or six of crows??

Heather-Lin Ahhh, I'm delighted to see your feelings toward the Darkling have changed. Honestly, if I'd read this series as a teenager I'm certain I would have been rooting for the dark pretty boy with powers and a wounded spirit... But I read it as a grown ass woman and was just appalled with how much the Darkling did NOT qualify as a romantic interest. Makes one hell of a nemesis though! 👍👍

Tanisha Herondale PLS I just finished this book for the first time and wrote of review that you do NOT want to see if you love this book. I gave it 2⭐️ 🥲

message 12: by nofy (new) - rated it 4 stars

nofy "i can't believe i was a darkling stan" lmao Hannah T_T

hamnah Nikolai was the only reason i completed the whole series...and let's be real we know u gave the trilogy another go because of the upcoming Netflix show, I'm glad u liked it this time tho

noémie a few years ago i read the first book, and i had no intention of finishing the series. then i read six of crows, and somehow i decided to give it another chance. i read the trilogy last year and REALLY enjoyed it! it's pretty amazing how a reread can change one's perception of a book/story and i'm so happy for you that you enjoyed it!

バジル Omg everyone is telling me to read shadow and bone before six of crows so I was no reading cuz I don't wanna read shadow and bone at this moment but after knowing that you read SOC before shadow and bone I'm gonna start reading SoC today!! Thanks bro xoxo

Mica The darkling just hits different... 🥺🥺

empiresandtea No worries girl, I think we were all darkling stans once.. haha

Lacey same

message 19: by Lyra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lyra Always loved Mal....I thought somethings wrong with me when everyone was shipping darklina😬

Josie Christie Saw everyone stan the Darkling before I read it, so I was fully expecting to love a dark mysterious broody powerful character. Then I actually read it and I’m team Mal all the way. What a bean. I love their banter. Just starting book 2 and I’m pumped.

message 21: by Catie (new) - added it

Catie Aleksander is such an interesting and complex character to me. I cannot just simply label him as “bad”. And I think it’s really a waste of a great character and narrative to just see him like that.
I’ve always found “villains” more interesting than heroes, I find it so intriguing to know why they did the things they did, what turned them into that person.
I think he honestly deserves to have a redemption arc, and I’m really rooting to see something like that happening in the series. I haven’t read the books (I’m now starting), but from what I’ve been told, the book narrative is predictable, celebrating Mal and his hero complex, so I know I won’t get my redemption arc there, but I’m rooting for the series to see the potential of Aleksander’s character.
I really think his character should not just be reduced to “bad guy”. He’s a grey character, and I honestly feel that he has such potential that could be developed and able to make the narrative and the whole story richer.
