2021 me is laughing at my 2016 review because rereading this changed everything I felt about this book. I love it so much more now and for completely different reasons. Honestly an all time favorite 💗
(can’t believe I was a darkling stan 💀)

3.5 Stars
I honestly had no intention of reading this series, but after loving Six of Crows I decided that I had to give The Grisha Trilogy a chance. And I am SO happy that I did!
While I felt that the plot and romance were somewhat tropey, I instantly fell in love with the world and the characters (especially the Darkling <3) and I can't wait to see how they develop in the rest of the series!

Six of Crows takes place after the events of the Grisha Trilogy but with all new characters. You can really read them in any order, I think it's just a matter of preference. I personally read Six of Crows before reading Shadow and Bone.
I hope this helps! <3

the first is the best to me i actually rly love it (the next 2... bye), but omg i am a huge darkling wh#re and ferocious darklina stan at the big age of 21yo tho 0% shame

I’ve always found “villains” more interesting than heroes, I find it so intriguing to know why they did the things they did, what turned them into that person.
I think he honestly deserves to have a redemption arc, and I’m really rooting to see something like that happening in the series. I haven’t read the books (I’m now starting), but from what I’ve been told, the book narrative is predictable, celebrating Mal and his hero complex, so I know I won’t get my redemption arc there, but I’m rooting for the series to see the potential of Aleksander’s character.
I really think his character should not just be reduced to “bad guy”. He’s a grey character, and I honestly feel that he has such potential that could be developed and able to make the narrative and the whole story richer.
