it was amazing

Wow such an amazing book! Although many parts were so difficult to read, so heart breaking, its a story that sticks with you. I loved when the story expanded to include Nettie's life as a missionary. Celie's courage to endure all the hardships and losses, including the hardest loss of her sister, makes many of today's problems seem so insignificant to me. This is truly a remarkable book that I highly recommend!

Thanks Deanna! I probably would never have read it, if not for a book club discussion. It's definitely worth your time. Enjoy!

Thanks Patti! It is very disturbing but reminded me of all the ordinary comforts I take for granted each day. Hope you enjoy! :)

Keith I similarly wouldn't normally read this sort of book, but I heard the author speak very eloquently about her life on the radio, and then the book came up as an audiobook deal, so I bought it and listened to it (read by the author). I really liked it - I thought it avoided the "misery lit" trap by having a distinctive narrative voice and illuminating a lot about the place and time where it took place.

Yes I completely agree! The story is raw and honest... It certainly gives a deeper sense of history than one would ever see in a history book.
