This book is shocking, loving, groundbreakingly impressive, beautifully written. I read through it without breathing, I mean I just had to know what was coming on the next page, and cried several times. Without a doubt one of the best books, if not the best, I read, ever...

Michael Finocchiaro agreed! Totally amazing. Like I said in my review, it makes The Walking Dead look like Singin in the Rain in comparison!

Annet LOL haha, that's just a great statement le_fino :-)

The Road, I loved it and hated it. I remember being on holiday in Italy in a cottage, reading it late in the evening, unable to stop until the very end, and crying my eyes out, this book.... horror and love at the same time. Truly, well, I said it, one of the best books I ever read. Highly, highly recommended.... if you can take this type of bleak story. But... with hope.... in the end.

Annet Does anyone know if Mr. McCarthy is going to write more books? I am waiting and waiting.... Will start on Blood Meridian this year, one of the few I haven't read yet from his work.

Boudewijn Am reading (well, listening) now. The narration adds to the dark scenery. To be honest, I started this book after reading your review above. At 31% right now, it is magnificent.

Annet It is seriously one of the most impressive books I ever read...

Vanessa Powerful book. Excellent review!

Aqsa Compelling review, Annet! Now I need to read this!!

Annet One of the best, shocking and very emotional books I ever read. I remember crying my eyes out.... what a book.

Susan (aka Just My Op) Great review for a great book. I read too many books and have too poor a memory to remember most of what I've read, but this one has stayed with me even though I read it years ago.

Annet Oh DEfinitely lesie! This is such an impressive book! But... very emotional too and dark, at least for me, so be prepared....

Amy Grossman A favorite of mine!

Annet Mine too, definitely !

message 16: by Gerhard (new)

Gerhard I do think a problem with the book is that it is too calculatedly bleak. The movie version's flashbacks, for example, add a well-balanced sense of humanism missing from the book. This is a book you appreciate more for the quality of the writing than its emotional impact, I think.

Annet Hi Gerhard,
In my case the emotional effect of the book hit me quite hard, so thus it wasn't bleak for me. The love between father and son is well described and emotional. But, that's it about books, they generate different views and experiences. Thanks for sharing Gerhard.

Dusty Haven't read the whole book yet but I completely agree with you! This is very intriguing!

Allyson Getty I agree, this novel had such an emotional effect on me. While reading, there was no time where I got bored or was finished reading, I just had to know what was going to happen next. The emotional connection between the man and his son and the way they continue to never lose the fire is so beautiful. The way the Man views his son as so sacred, is really beautiful because it shows how much of a loving and caring father he is. The man and the boy never lose their spark of true and pure humanity even when put in the worst conditions. This novel really opens my eyes to the precious world and relationships I have around me. I loved your comment, thank you!

Lesley R M Great review, Annet. I agree with everything you’ve said. One of my favorites of McCarthy. 😊👍🏻
