I liked the mystery and the premise of this novel but the believability factor weighed this one down. I probably could have ignored my critical brain if I had liked the execution of the story or the characters. But I didn't.
I read to 50% and then skimmed/speed read to the end. I did like how the author didn't go for the obvious and the slight twist at the end left things open for a sequel. Unfortunately, the believability factor had my eyes rolling.
The chapters alternated between current day and flashbacks to the past, with the mean girls/teen camp figuring prominently in the story, a particular dislike of mine. There was also a YA quality to the writing that I didn't care for.
Recommended for people who like teen themes and for those who can silence their inner critic and just go with where the story takes them.
*I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss and Penguin Publishing group in an exchange for an honest review.

Thanks Susanne, I see we felt similarly about this one! 😊

Thanks Suzy, I'm glad you liked it. I wish I had too! 😊

Thanks Helga! I hope so too 😊

Thanks Kaceey, I wish we had both enjoyed it more!

Thanks Debra, I love your review and wish I had loved it as much as you. Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon 😉

Thanks Tammy, I will be interested in your thoughts. I seem to be the outlier. I passed on it for BOTM club because I didn't care for his first book but the auto download on EW, along with rave reviews, tempted me to try it. I truly hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Jenna for letting me know I am not alone! No book can be great for everyone can it? Let's hope we both have books that are a better fit in the future :-)

Liz, I know, right? 😬 I hope I wasn't too harsh but this book just didn't do it for me - at all.

Thanks Jennifer, I hope so too 😊💕

Thanks Dana, lol. me too! 😊

Thanks Brandice, some of us struggle more than others don't we? lol. I hope we both have 5 star reads in our future 😊

Holly, thanks for mentioning this, I'm glad it wasn't just me! Maybe the ability to enjoy YA is the key to enjoying this book, or not.

Elyse, I think the YA/teen theme is the key to enjoying this book. And I was just thinking I was behind in posting over there. Our daughter is getting married this Saturday so it's been a crazy year. I will do a massive update after this weekend!

Elyse, I think the YA/teen the..."
Hope the wedding went off without a hitch!

Thanks Jen, I love what you call your reality meter. I have one of those too, ha!

Maria, I often find myself in the outlier club 😊

Thanks Mary Beth! I'm glad you loved it, I wish I had too!

Thanks Deanna!

Victoria, me too! And the market seems to be flooded right now with thrillers that are anything but thrilling.

Elyse, I think th..."
Thanks Elyse, the wedding was magical, just exceptionally wonderful 💕

Melissa, good call. I almost didn't read this because of my feelings toward Final Girls but there have been so many great reviews. And then when I saw the download button on EW my twitchy fingers couldn't resist. I should have gone with my first instinct! 🙄

Kelli, the thriller genre is bloated with so many being published that it's hard to find the gems. This one gets many positive reviews but it isn't my cup of tea. The older I get the pickier I get....so many books, so little time.

Thanks Norma, it's that darn believability radar in my brain! lol. I wish I could silence it!

Kelli, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that, ha! I think it's our sixth sense telling us something :)

Thanks Marialyce. I get it, I think the ones who enjoyed it (and his first one) saw it as a campy Grade B horror movie. Maybe if that had been my mindset I would have enjoyed it more!
