Wait.. what? “The End”? Just like that after a 1000+ pages with little closure on so many things? Whatever happened to the good old closure?

That was one of the most emotional endings I’ve ever come across, bringing an end to what has been a phenomenal story in more ways that I can express.

But how to review it…
Of course, no better way than Scarlett’s signature move for everything:

”I’ll think of it all tomorrow. I can stand it then. After all, tomorrow is another day.”

It took a while for me to get settled into this, but things are getting interesting by the chapter.. Although, I’ve never come across a book where the author had tried this hard to make the protagonist despicable.

"Sing it I will and listen you will or I’ll be shooting you for the Orangeman you are." "

👍

Flybyreader I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. It has become one of my absolute favorites and I will surely re-read it soon.

I didn't think I'll like the book during the first 100 pages or so, but I'm loving it now! This is totally worth the time!

Debbie W. Great review, Tharindu! Personally, I think it has the perfect ending - Rhett pretty well washes his hands of Scarlett, and she will continue on like she always has. It's an epic novel like no other!

the_frat_nanny_reads I loved the book, but I have to say had I read this book first I wouldn't have loved the movie. They were way to kind to Scarlett in the movie.

Baba Perfectly captured Tharindu :)

Loretta I’ve never read the book. Saw the movie with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh too many times to be interested in actually reading the book.

Glad you finally reached your goal Tharindu and read the book this year! 🥳

Thank you, Debbie! 😊 I know what you mean, this one's unique in so many ways. Oh, and I actually have you to thank for reminding me to bump this up to the TBR pile at the beginning of this year! So, thank you for that too! 😊😊

I've yet to watch the movie, and I don't think I'll do so until I re-read the book at least one more time.. I think there's lot more left here for me to enjoy before letting a motion picture put definitions to everything 😄 Glad to hear you enjoyed them both!

Thank you, Baba! 😊 but the actual review is yet to come actually 😄

Thank you, Loretta! 😊 I tend not to watch the movie first anymore with books like this, as they have a way of skipping over many vital bits 😄 Hope you'll give the book a try someday!

I also like to read the book before the movie Tharindu but as I said, unfortunately, this wasn’t the case with this book.

I guess never say never! Maybe one day I’ll surprise myself and read the book! 😊

Jasmine Shadows Hi there. The reason that the book ended without the closure that you usually find in books is that Margaret Mitchell died before she could complete the book. Her fans did not care. They wanted the book anyway, and aren't you glad that they published it anyway. There have been a few authors that have tried to write the sequel to this, but the one that I read was not even close to this wonderful piece. In fact, she got some very significant details very wrong. I am glad that you enjoyed the book. I have been wanting to reread it, as it was a favorite of mine when I read it before. Yes this book far surpasses the movie, and the movie was well done.

Really?? 😮😮 I had no idea! I'm very glad the book got published then. It'd be nigh on impossible to write a sequel to a book like this (or to any great book), no matter how skill a write is I think. Hope you enjoy your re-read, Jasmine!

Jane Upshall Yep that ending was insane !

Joe Krakovsky That was a fitting review, Tharindu.

I very much agree. First I agree that I am so glad it was published! Second, I believe that writers should leave such books untouched. No one can know exactly where the original author intended to take the story, and I would not want to distort the story for my own gain.

I am sure that I will enjoy it as I reread it again, for probably the fourth time. Lol. I will probably be doing that next year as my intended reading list for this year is already more than I will most likely be able to complete by the closing of this year.

Mary (scarletbloom) @Jasmine Shadows They are wrong. The book was published in 1936, it was filmed in 1939 and the author died in 1949.

Thank you, Joe! 😊 This is more like a 'pre-review' though 😄

Hmm thank you for that information. I had always been told what I had stated earlier. Guess that just goes to show that you can not always believe what others have told you. I normally do my own research, but I have not on this one. Thank you for sharing. I stand corrected.

Flybyreader One of my absolute favorites. I really want to reread this :) What a protagonist!

Yeah, a unique protagonist indeed! Hope you'll have a great time with the re-read!

Teresa Lovely review Tharindu! I tried to read this many years ago but couldn't get into it. I do love the film but you're right, too much left unanswered.
