Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)

I love this book, of course I do, but the fact remains that this book prominently featured two of my most hated Harry Potter characters. Ginny Weasley and Dobby. There, I said it. I hate them both. In my Harry Potter hate list, Ginny and Dobby probably rank somewhere below Umbridge and Peter Pettigrew. Yeah, you heard me. I hate them that much.
The reason I hate Ginny is---well, never mind. I don't want to start another shipping war here, the last one was terrible enough, so let the reason for my hatred be implicit and unsaid.
Dobby is freaking annoying, yo. All his eagerness and shit - and yeah, I know what happens in the end. Doesn't matter. I still hate Dobby. Dobby is the equivalent of fingernails on chalkboard for me. If he had been my elf, I'd have given him a sock already so he could his whimpering, sniveling ass out of my life. He means well, I know he does, it's just that he's such a frustratingly well-meaning bumbling idiot.

“You know what, Harry? If he doesn’t stop trying to save your life he’s going to kill you.”Aaaaaaaand one final note.
“Ginny!” said Mr. Weasley, flabbergasted. “Haven’t I taught you anything. What have I always told you? Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain?"No particular reason I included that, except for the fact that it reminded me of my ex-boyfriend :3

Aren't we over HP ships already ? Can they still start a war ? Nevermind. Really liked your review anyway !

But Dobby. I agree about Dobby. I didn't cheer, but I was way more upset when Hedwig died.

Still, hardly any character is worse than Umbridge in my book :p
I like Ginny, but I don't like her with Harry. Her character was desecrated in the movies, though. I cringe at the Hinny romance in the Half-Blood Prince movie. XD

As for Dobby, he was just okay. I liked Kreacher more and was sadder when Hedwig died than when Dobby did. Though I was still a little sad. And then about a week later I had a little chuckle because ( I don't remember if it was mentioned in the second book) at the end of the movie anyways, Harry asked Dobby to promise to never save his life again and when Dobby did he died.
I have a dark sense of humor sometimes.

Yes, Kreacher was a much more complex character to me.

Wow, I need to do a reread, because that is a foreshadowing bomb right there.
Ginny had very little back-bone until Harry grew up and decided he needs a partner that has one.

And to hate them both more than Umbridge? I didn't know that was possible lol! Umbridge brings out a bitchy (well, bitchier) side of me.

I always thought I was alone in disliking Ginny. Even as a 12 year old reading this I felt like Harry being into her came out NO-FREAKING-WHERE. I didn't like that he randomly got jealous when she was dating someone else. I was like BOO! Go crush on Cho, Harry. lol
I liked him with Cho. I could even tolerated Luna, but Ginny?
The only time I found her amusing was the last book when Cho was steadily trying to team up with Harry and Ginny was like "Oh Hell no" . I found that shit hilarious.

Her and Ron were super cute, and well written, but Rowling did admit that it didn't make sense with Hermione's character that she ended up with Ron.
I just always thought that her and Harry would have played off each other really well as a couple. I was so attached to Harry, I wanted him to end up with someone that matched him and challenged him.
Oh well. I still love Hermione and Ron, I wish Ginny were a more dynamic.

I'm rereading the series now and I'm pretty much 'meh' about both of them - don't particularly like or dislike. I don't remember how I felt when I first read the books, but I think I probably liked Dobby but did find him annoying (like I wanted him to have a good ending but kind of behind the scenes type of thing, if that makes sense). I think I was kind of "eye roll" re: Ginny because of what she became. If she was developed more as a character outside of being Harry's love interest I probably would've liked her more. Everything about her felt too convenient for me in later books.
BUT who knows, maybe my opinions will change on my reread. I'm definitely noticing myself loving Hermione even more than I did when I was younger, which was already a lot to begin with.

I don't hate Ginny but I don't think her characterization and romance with Harry was handled well at all. And with Dobby I'm just meh. And on the topic of Umbridge, I feel like one of the only people who hates Voldemort worse. I honestly don't see how she's more unlikable than the Dudleys. And maybe Lucius.

As for Ginny, I've read the books long time ago (but I never read 7th, it was all alone on my shelf once everyone let out that major spoiler in it) and can't remember her much but I remember I did like her progress with Harry but not as much as Luna with Harry.
I mean, clearly after rereading; J.K did intend to build their relationship further by making her involved since the beginning and her crush being so evident (shadowed girl admiring a popular boy in a way and in the end gets him probably was her approach) but her character is quite headstrong annoying, a bit too common for Harry.. I've hated her when I saw her in media which wiped all my liking to her when I've read the books previously lol. So I can see where you're going with this review haha

so does this mean you'll be reading the hunger games next? xxx
