October

We're coming into October and this year, a great many folk who delve into astrology agree the season is thick with change. Libra and Leo, avoid jumping into new projects until November, and even then, be cautious until the new year.
This October will be turbulent and we will see a rough winter ahead.

"I am going to be the party pooper again. Many of my friends enjoyed this story but as much as I tried (and, boy, did I ever try) I could not fall into this book.

Part of the problem was the narrator. His voice was gravelly and deep and it suited s" Read more of this review »

This is a fascinating book, but even though it won an Edgar, I have issues with its account of The Michigan Co-Ed Killer. I believe what the editor needed to do here was step in and cut some of the more tedious details that did little to inform the r ...more

Stephen Kendrick is a fine writer and this is a solid locked room mystery. However, it would have been better had he created his own characters and not made this a pastiche. It doesn't work as a Holmes novel, although Kendrick has a nice sense of Vic ...more

This is pulp, but good pulp, thanks to Moorcock's skill. It has a fairytale feel to it, but I like a bit more sophistication. Reading it was fun, and gave me nostalgia for Dungeons and Dragons. ...more

"Elric of FREAKIN’ Melnibone.

A supersized but colorless everlasting gobstopper of fantasy have-at-you.

If he were a mongoose, he’d be Elrici-tiki-tavi.

If he were a professional wrestler (pronounced RASTLER in Memphis) he’d be Elric Flair - Wooooooooooo" Read more of this review »

“Out- out are the lights- out all! And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.”
Edgar Allan Poe

“Sin ought to be something exquisite, my dear boy.”
Emile Zola

“In my next life I want to live my life backwards. You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in an old people's home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day. You work for 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You party, drink alcohol, and are generally promiscuous, then you are ready for high school. You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play. You have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born. And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa-like conditions with central heating and room service on tap, larger quarters every day and then Voila! You finish off as an orgasm!”
Woody Allen

“Good teachers are costly, but bad teachers cost more.”
Bob Talbert
