Thank you for your kind words, but I’m loving the bookclub I’m in, and wouldn’t necessarily want all of the responsibilities of being a mod. Sometimes my schedule gets too crazy that I don’t think it would be fair. I’m enjoying being an active participant so much, it’s enriched my recent return to avid reading immensely. (less)

I immediately said yes, even though I hadn’t written any fiction since high school, or any work of any length at all since my memoir was published in 2006. But it felt like too special an opportunity to pass up, as i Read more of this blog post »

“Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, The Lathe of Heaven

“We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.”
Ursula K. Le Guin

“That time
I thought I could not
go any closer to grief
without dying

I went closer,
and I did not die.
Surely God
had his hand in this,

as well as friends.
Still, I was bent,
and my laughter,
as the poet said,

was nowhere to be found.
Then said my friend Daniel,
(brave even among lions),
“It’s not the weight you carry

but how you carry it -
books, bricks, grief -
it’s all in the way
you embrace it, balance it, carry it

when you cannot, and would not,
put it down.”
So I went practicing.
Have you noticed?

Have you heard
the laughter
that comes, now and again,
out of my startled mouth?

How I linger
to admire, admire, admire
the things of this world
that are kind, and maybe

also troubled -
roses in the wind,
the sea geese on the steep waves,
a love
to which there is no reply?”
Mary Oliver

“Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger. Forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.”
Jim Henson

“Something that is loved is never lost.”
Toni Morrison, Beloved

Marko Realmonte You are a bright light in a world that can be very dark at times. Keep telling your truth.

I recently published a gay whodunnit. It's a fun read for a long plane flight. I'd love to get your thoughts on it. Murder at White Oak by Marko Realmonte
