THE FAR END OF HAPPY, due May 5, is based on an event from my life—the standoff between my suicidal first husband and a massive police presence at our idyllic little farm. Whether journaling, writing essays, or drafting a full-length memoir, I've been writing about that event one way or another for most of the 17 years since it happened. When I got the idea to honor the day's significance by constraining the story to its twelve hours, and spreading perspective over three women's points of view, I knew novelizing was the way to go, and Sourcebooks gave me the opportunity.
