Sit around my campfire for a spell

It’s funny—I came here today to write about gathering, only to realize that I’d shared the same thoughts here last year. Anyone else feel like they’re caught in a hamster wheel?

I suppose if we were snakes we wouldn’t care one wit that we’re spending so much time apart. Snakes are solitary animals, typically leaving the “nest” within one week after birth. But humans crave connection. We reinforce o

Thanks for the recommendation, Beth! I have read a couple of Alice's books (Charming Billy, The Optimist's Daughter) and was thrilled to learn so much from her when I sat in on 6 of her workshops when I was at Sewanee Writers' Conference in 2002. This one sounds great as well. xo

Elizabeth Havey Kathryn, I am currently reading SOMEONE by Alice McDermott and though I didn't grow up in the exact period that she writes about, I am amazing at how her memory-laden work speaks to me. She is able to pull us into a world without the clamor of tension, but rather the strange pull and tug of life. Hope are are well, Beth Havey
