This reminded me so much of Daisy Jones & The Six with the interview style story telling. Except instead of a band, its a romance between two ice dancers. And when you have two people who have chemistry both on and off the ice, plus a whole world of other ice dancers you have to compete with, mixed with so much drama and politics, their relationship really gets tested.
I thought the characters love for ice skating was depicted so well! I felt both their wins and losses with so much emotion. And Katerina's determination for the sport despite the shit she had to go through was admiring. And even the politics and dangers surrounding the sport were well executed! The being said I do think if this book wasn't as long as it was, it would have been a perfect 5 star read. The drama in the last 70-ish pages were not needed in my opinion. I love drama but I do think this book slightly overdid it toward the end there.
Regardless, it was such a fun book to read and would definitely recommend it to others!...more

The romance is exactly as I love it, slow and deliberate, with those few moments that got me so giddy inside.
The story does start off slowly, as is often the case with fantasy, but once the world and characters were established I was completely hooked. Those last 100 pages had me on a chokehold and I knew I needed to have the second book ready. ...more

“He wanted to tell her that love was too tame a word for everything that happened inside him where she was concerned. She had shifted him, realigned him from the inside out. Like a planet that suddenly pulls a moon into its orbit, she had bound him to her, given him direction for longer than she knew, gave him purpose to exist.
She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her.”

But 3 stars for the dark atmosphere!...more
