Clémentine's madeleines

As soon as I reached the stables overlooking the flood-lit training ring, the powerful odor of horse manure, like an olfactory bridge spanning decades, catapulted me back on the side of my father, and a wave of peace washed over me. I was suddenly six years old again, when in a flight of uncharacteristic temerity, I had braved my worst fears and ventured into the stable, with Chiffon in tow, and f Read more of this blog post »

“Strawberries in June are ordinary. Still, they are luscious and sweet, all the same. But I was just that: a June strawberry, one of many in a fragrant basket. Not the choicest Chilean import which would grace the cake of a December wedding, or a particularly succulent one, singled out to sweeten a fruity cocktail drink in a swanky bar.”
Jocelyne Lebon, Clémentine's Uncommon Scents

“Habit is a great deadener.”
Samuel Beckett

“Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Dylan Thomas, In Country Sleep, and Other Poems

“I’m not a very good sleeper. But you know what? I’m willing to put in a few extra hours every day to get better. That’s just the kind of hard worker I am.”
Jarod Kintz, Whenever You're Gone, I'm Here For You

Jocelyne Lebon I am trying to keep up with the reading. I just read Gilead for this month.

Sanne hi Jocelyne, thanks for the friend request. Are you also joining in one of the "around the world" challenges?

message 6: by Traveller (last edited Mar 30, 2013 07:06PM)

Traveller Hi Jocelyne! Thanks for the request. Yes, I was hoping to read Proust this year (actually had Swann's Way on the Kindle ready and waiting for two years now, but other things kept intervening) so I really must get down to it.

I'm terribly behind with the Proust group, though, I'm afraid. That group is huge! ..and been doing some side-reading on Proust instead of the actual Proust, argh!

Nick Wellings Thank you for the request, Jocelyne :) As Kris also said, I am very pleased to count as a friend, another lover of Proust :)

Jocelyne Lebon Thank you, Kris. Don't spend too much time trying to figure out the pagination. I just thought it was available some place and I had missed it. I can always go by the approximate number of pages by following the Schedule for the other edition.

message 3: by Kris

Kris Thanks so much for the friend request, Jocelyne! Always happy to make that connection with a fellow Proustian. Also, keep an eye on the Reading Schedule thread in P 2013 -- I'll try to get page numbers for the Moncrieff/Kilmartin 3 volume edition posted there shortly.
